NOVEMBER 2018 NEWSLETTER WORSHIP SERVICE HOURS Discovery Hour: Classes for All Ages 11:00 AM IN A HURRY There s an old song by Alabama that says, I m in a hurry to get things done. Oh I rush and rush until life s no fun. That song kind of captures the frenzied 15-minute transition between the 9:30 worship service and the 11:00 Discovery Hour (10:45-11:00). There s a rush and a bottleneck. And most importantly, there is precious little time to genuinely engage each other in relationship. When we are too rushed to care, we re too rushed. In light of this, the elders have decided to tweak the Sunday morning schedule by starting the first service at 9:15 AM beginning on November 18th. Everything else stays the same. We just start the first service 15 minutes earlier to allow for unhurried transition and fellowship. So, in the 30 minutes between 10:30 and 11:00 AM, slow down, grab some coffee, a cookie, and enjoy the time of fellowship. 9:15* & 11:00 AM Worship Service in the Sanctuary (* this service will be at 9:30 AM November 4th & 11th) Please take advantage of the many ways to be informed about what is happening in the life of the church family. Page 2 Currently, nearly 70% of Cadillac Area Public School s elementary students qualify for our program! Based on income guidelines determined by the state, food-insecure children are identified and given the opportunity to participate in the program. Once enrolled, each qualified child receives a food bag at the end of every week containing six kidfriendly meal options and six snacks. Presently, faithful volunteers pack approximately 450 bags of food to be sent home with students each Friday. If you would like to serve in this ministry, we pack every Thursday unless otherwise noted to volunteers. Please meet at the Cooley Annex building on Granite Street at 9:00 am for set-up and 9:30 am for packing. Packing is complete no later than 10:15 am. This ministry is 100% funded by donations and completely dependent upon God s amazing grace! If you would like to support our ministry financially, see above how you can give. Thank you!!

Page 4 Dear Parents, There will be no youth groups this Wednesday, October 31. We will see everyone back on Wednesday, November 7th as we continue our series, I Know His Name: Discovering Power in the Names of God. Junior High students meet from 6:00 pm to 7:30 pm and High School students meet from 6:45 pm to 8:15 pm. On Sunday, November 11, FBC Youth Ministry has been invited to join together with other youth ministries in the area for a United Night of Worship at McBain Public School from 6:30 pm to 8:30 pm. Students will join with students in the area for some games/activities in the gym and then there will be worship and a message in the school Auditorium. This is not a FBC Ministry event and I am not involved with the planning and organization of the event. The Youth Pastor at the Cadillac Christian Reformed Church along with several youth pastors at McBain Churches are organizing the night and message. I think this event will be a great night to unite with other churches. Parents will need to provide transportation to and from McBain Public School: 107 E. Maple McBain, MI. Let me know if your student needs transportation and I will attempt to organize rides. Wednesday, Nov 14 and Wednesday, Nov 28 youth groups will meet at the normal times as we continue our series, I know His Name: Discovering Power in the Names of God. No youth group on Wednesday, Nov 21 for Thanksgiving Break. Lastly, the Early Bird Special of $150.00 is due by November 1 for The Lift Tour Youth Conference in February. The cost of the trip goes up to $200.00 after November 1 and is due by January 1. Spots on the trip are limited, please let me know if your student in interested. Blessings! Pastor David Wilson David david@firstbaptistcadillac.org 231-429-3780 SUNDAY, NOVEMBER 11th We will be taking time to lift up in prayer those believers who are being persecuted for their faith.

Page 6 Wondering how you can help, but you don t have much time? How about being a driver for 2 hours a week? We are looking for volunteers to deliver meals to those who are not able to attend Shepherd s Table. You must have a vehicle that can hold several coolers. Please contact Jan King if you are interested.

Page 7 MEN! JOIN THIS 6-WEEK STUDY! Our culture has redefined manhood by emasculating men through a repositioning of the role. Men are portrayed as weak, self-serving, and unfocused. The Bible clearly communicates that man was created to exercise dominion over the various areas of his life, taking responsibility for himself and others entrusted to his care. When a man functions within the principles of biblical manhood, those around him benefit from his leadership and care. This study challenges and equips men to fully understand their position under God, learning to operate under the authority of Jesus Christ. Examines what it means to be Kingdom man in the world today. Motivates men to accept their roles and responsibilities as leaders in God s kingdom. Shows men how to identify the spheres of influence that God has entrusted to them. Suggests practical ways to advance God s kingdom at home, at church, and in the world. This is a Tony Evan s study called Kingdom Man. It will begin on Saturday, November 17 th at 8 AM and runs for 6 sessions. This is a DVD study and the cost of the study guide is $10. To sign up, email Chris Crawley at ccrawley98@gmail.com or call 231-884-0272. WE ALSO NOW HAVE A COLLECTION BOX AT THE COMMONS INFO BOOTH
