Page 750 PRAYERS FOR THIS WEEK We pray for all our brothers and sisters in Christ, regardless of their denomination or tradition, as we journey through this time of Advent towards the night of all nights, Christmas Eve. May we follow the light of Christ in our lives as the Magi followed the star to 1

Bethlehem. We pray for Bishop Michael and the Diocese of Cyprus and the Gulf; John the Archdeacon of Cyprus and pray for the parishes of Cyprus and for justice and peace throughout the island. In the Gulf we pray for St. Andrew s Church, a compound based in Abu Dhabi with a daughter congregation in Al Ain called St. Thomas; seeking to provide Christians of all traditions a safe and legal environment to worship. We give thanks for their growing children s and youth ministry, praying for leaders that they may be inspired to lead in such a way that encourages faith to develop and mature. In our own Parish of Paphos, in this time of interregnum, we pray that we may encourage each other in steadfastness of faith and service; and with the members of our worship team we look forward to a new beginning; this is our time of Advent. For further prayers during the week please go to our Diocesan Prayer Guide Booklet and also the Anglican Communion website: www.anglicancommunion.org/acp WHAT S GOING ON TODAY & THIS WEEK Sunday 13th December 8.15am Holy Eucharist (Rev d Andrew) - Ayia Kyriaki 9.30am Communion by Extension (Reader Trev Sait) - St. Luke s 11.00am Carol Service (Rev d Andrew) - St. Stephen s 6.00pm Nine Lessons & Carols (Rev d Andrew) - Ayia Kyriaki Wednesday 16th December 9.00am Holy Eucharist - Ayia Kyriaki 9.30am Carol Singing at General Hospital and Friends Hospice 10.00am Ayia Kyriaki Congregational Meeting - Church Office Kitchen Area Sunday 20th December 8.15am 11.00am 11.00am 6.00pm Holy Eucharist (Rev d Andrew) - Ayia Kyriaki Holy Eucharist (Rev d Andrew) - St. Luke s Morning Worship (Reader Ann Bailey) - St. Stephen s Holy Eucharist (Rev d Andrew) - Ayia Kyriaki CHRISTMAS SERVICES FOR YOUR DIARIES St. Stephen s - Christmas Eve - 11.30pm Midnight Mass Bishop Michael presiding and preaching Ayia Kyriaki - Christmas Day - 8.15am Christmas Holy Eucharist - Rev d Andrew presiding and preaching. THIS PARISH OF OURS Duty Wardens for week Ayia Kyriaki - 8.15 a.m. - Margaret Keeble + week Ayia Kyriaki - 6.00 p.m. - Margaret Keeble St. Stephen s - Jacquie Hammond St. Luke s - David Gisborne Gift Aid can boost Church finances: If you pay UK income or capital gains tax please help the Church by using the blue Gift Aid envelopes for your Open Plate donations. This will add approximately 25% to any donations you make, as the Church can reclaim the basic rate of tax from your donations. If you are or intend to donate via the Pledge Giving Scheme, you can complete a one-off Gift Aid declaration. To make a Gift Aid declaration you will need to pay UK Income Tax and/or Capital Gains Tax in any tax year greater than the amount of Gift Aid claimed on all your Gift Aid donations in that year, or you will be responsible for any difference. Income tax includes tax credits on UK dividend income. Boosting the Church income in this way will be a very welcome additional contribution to finances. GENERAL NOTICES PLEASE NOTE: Due to Christmas next week s Weekly Notice Sheet will cover two weeks, the 20th and the 27th December. If you have anything to go in for either week please let me have it by 10am on Wednesday 16th December. Thank you, Sarah The Balloon Race raised 963.50 profit after expenses for the AC of P funds from total sales of approximately 250 balloons at Kamares Club, Elea Golf Club, Angelika (x 2) and our Christmas Fayre. They were released at 3.30pm on 2nd December at the Monte Lisa. The 50 prize for the balloon travelling the furthest and the 30 prize for the finder returning it to Paphos have been covered by a donation. Many thanks to all concerned. Roger Bailey The Fantasia Social Evening / Quiz which included a buffet attracted 35 people and was a successful evening, raising 135 from the raffle for church funds. Café Direct: This month s round of sales at Ayia Kyriaki and St. Stephen s resulted in 30 items being sold of which 3 were discounted. The profit to the Church is 27.56 after allowing for one customer not wanting all his change. Colin Evans Craft and Coffee: The members of the Craft and Coffee Group will have to go without their delicious scones because the Group have stopped meeting for Christmas. They are a small band of 4-5 people and have so far, by the sale of items made, banked 1484 for Church Funds. They would like to express their thanks to those swallows who have joined them when they are on the island. A number of tutors have held one off sessions when they have shown members how to do varying Craft projects, from Christmas Cracker making, Christmas Card making to Silk Painting. It is hoped to continue new projects in the New Year. All are welcome to come and join us. The stall at the Christmas Fayre including Christmas cards and Craft creations raised over 800 for local Cypriot Charities. We recommence on Friday 8th January at 2.00pm. All are welcome. Please come along or pop in to see what we do and have a chat over a cuppa. Mary Brown 99 863194 or email: maryb42@hotmail.co.uk 3
