ELW refers to the Evangelical Lutheran Worship, the red worship book. Page numbers are in the front of the book with hymn numbers following in the middle & end. During worship, please silence all communication devices. *Please stand as you are able. Gathering Fellowship and Gathering Welcome and Theme of the Day This year s All Saints readings have the most tears. Isaiah and Revelation look forward to the day when God will wipe away all tears; in John s gospel, Jesus weeps along with Mary and all the gathered mourners before he demonstrates his power over death. On All Saints Day we celebrate the victory won for all the faithful dead, but we grieve for our beloved dead as well, knowing that God honors our tears. We bring our grief to the table and find there a foretaste of Isaiah s feast to come. *Thanksgiving for All the Saints + All may make the sign of the cross, the sign that is marked at baptism. Welcome in the name of Jesus, + the Savior of the world. We are gathered to worship, to proclaim Christ crucified and risen, to remember before God our sisters and brothers in Christ, to give thanks for their lives, and to comfort one another. When we were baptized in Christ Jesus, we were baptized into his death. We were buried therefore with him by baptism into death, so that as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, we too may live a new life. For if we have been united with him in a death like his, we will certainly be united with him in a resurrection like his. Almighty God, who gives us a new birth by water and the Holy Spirit and forgives us all our sins, strengthen us in all goodness, and by the power of the Holy Spirit keep us in eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen. 3

*Song of Welcome The Trumpets Sound, the Angels Sing ELW Hymn 531 *Prayer of the Day Let us pray together. God of every generation, every place, and every time; we are here because of the faithfulness and dedication of the great cloud of witnesses that have come before us. Guide our life in the patterns of all the saints who have gone before us and whose lives were a light for us and a beacon of hope in the world, through our Savior who lived, died, and rose from the dead. Amen. Word First Reading A Reading from Revelation 21:1-6a. Here is a vision of the new heaven and new earth in which God resides fully with God s people so that mourning, despair, and pain have been eradicated. These renewing words from the God who spans all of time are trustworthy and true. I saw a new heaven and a new earth. The first heaven and the first earth had disappeared, and so had the sea. Then I saw New Jerusalem, that holy city, coming down from God in heaven. It was like a bride dressed in her wedding gown and ready to meet her husband. I heard a loud voice shout from the throne: God s home is now with his people. He will live with them, and they will be his own. Yes, God will make his home among his people. He will wipe all tears from their eyes, and there will be no more death, suffering, crying, or pain. These things of the past are gone forever. Then the one sitting on the throne said: I am making everything new. Write down what I have said. My words are true and can be trusted. Everything is finished! I am Alpha and Omega, [a] the beginning and the end. I will freely give water from the life-giving fountain to everyone who is thirsty. Word of God, Word of Life. Thanks be to God! Contemporary English Version Bible 4

Word for God s Children Children age 3 7 are invited to the All Saints Room. They will return after the Sermon. We encourage at least one parent to be present. *Gospel The good news from John 11:32-44. Open our hearts, Lord Through the raising of Lazarus, Jesus offers the world a vision of the life to come, when death and weeping will be no more. Mary went to where Jesus was. Then as soon as she saw Jesus, she knelt at his feet and said, (all women) Lord, if you had been here, my brother would not have died. When Jesus saw that Mary and the people with her were crying, he was terribly upset and asked, Where have you put his body? They replied, (all men) Lord, come and you will see. Jesus started crying, and all the people said, (all people) See how much he loved Lazarus. He gives sight to the blind. Why couldn t he have kept Lazarus from dying? Jesus was still terribly upset. So he went to the tomb, which was a cave with a stone rolled against the entrance. Then Jesus told the people to roll the stone away. But Martha said, (all women) Lord, you know that Lazarus has been dead four days, and there will be a bad smell. Jesus replied, Didn t I tell you that if you had faith, you would see the glory of God? After the stone had been rolled aside, Jesus looked up toward heaven and prayed, Father, I thank you for answering my prayer. I know that you always answer my prayers. But I said this, so that the people here would believe that you sent me. When Jesus had finished praying, he shouted, Lazarus, come out! The man who had been dead came out. His hands and feet were wrapped with strips of burial cloth, and a cloth covered his face. Jesus then told the people, Untie him and let him go. Contemporary English Version Bible This is the good news! Thanks be to God! Hallelujah! Sermon Pr. Ric Elliott 5

*Word in Songs Soon and Very Soon During the singing of this song, we remember the names of the saints who have touched our lives. These saints link us together in faith with the great cloud of witnesses On the screen, the names are listed in alphabetical order by last name of the requester. 6

*Word in Songs Oh, When The Saints Go Marching In (Repeat verses, as needed) 7

*Nicene Creed With the whole church, let us confess our faith. We believe in one God, the Father, the Almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all that is, seen and unseen. We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the only Son of God, eternally begotten of the Father, God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, of one Being with the Father; through him all things were made. For us and for our salvation he came down from heaven, was incarnate of the Holy Spirit and the virgin Mary and became truly human. For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate; he suffered death and was buried. On the third day he rose again in accordance with the scriptures; he ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead, and his kingdom will have no end. We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son, who with the Father and the Son is worshiped and glorified, who has spoken through the prophets. We believe in one holy catholic and apostolic church. We acknowledge one baptism for the forgiveness of sins. We look for the resurrection of the dead, and the life of the world to come. Amen. *Prayers of the People With the people of God gathered here and throughout the world, we offer our prayers for the church, the world, and all people in need. After each petition: We come as sinners, teach us to be saints. Enfold all things in your compassion, O God, and bring us into your life through the faithfulness of Jesus Christ, our Savior and Lord. Amen. 8

*Share the Peace May the peace of Christ be with you! And also with you! The people greet one another with the freedom of Christ. Offering Dancing with the Angels Monk, Neagle, Cash Eric Kahler, soloist The assembly responds to the Word of God by gathering an offering for the mission of the church, including the care of those in need. The music is offered as a gift to the glory of God. You may give your offering in the offering plate, or by using a credit or debit card at the Giving Kiosk, or Give by Text (610-981-1312), or through Simply Giving, or by sending it to the church office. The table is set. *Prayer Let us pray. Creator God, you made everything, and you provide for every need. The bread we break and the wine we pour come from you. As we eat and drink with thanksgiving, fill us with your love; let that love flow through us to others; and join us to the saints before us in a holy and boundless communion; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen. *Word in Meal Meal Welcome to the celebration of Christ s victory over death. This is the meal of life! This is the meal of the kingdom of God! The risen Christ is truly present in, with and under the bread and wine. Come, risen Christ, and meet us in this sacrament. Join us with saints of all times and places. Join us together as the body of Christ whose sins are forgiven. Words of Institution Almighty God, you are always making everything new. Make us a new creation in Christ Jesus. Christ has died. Christ is risen! Christ will come again! 9

Come, Holy Spirit, come. Lead us into lives of service. Come, Holy Spirit, come. Inspire us by the great cloud of witnesses. Through him, with him, in him, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, all glory and honor is yours, almighty Father, now and forever. Amen. *Lord s Prayer Gathered into one by the Holy Spirit, let us pray as Jesus taught us: Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as in heaven. Give us today our daily bread. Forgive us our sins as we forgive those who sin against us. Save us from the time of trial and deliver us from evil. For the kingdom, the power, and the glory are yours, now and forever. Amen. *Invitation to Communion Share in the inheritance of all the saints. Come, eat, drink, and live. Amen. Sacrament of Holy Communion All who are baptized and believe in the presence of Jesus Christ in Holy Communion are welcome to receive the Sacrament. To facilitate flow, the ushers invite the side sections, the front few rows and then the back rows. The people come forward, using the center aisle in two lines, to receive the bread from the ministers, then go to the side to dip their bread into the wine. Grape juice is used in our celebration so that all may freely receive. In addition, gluten free wafers are available. After receiving the elements, people may kneel at the altar rail for prayer, and return to their seats using the side aisles. Children may receive the sacrament if they have completed instruction with a pastor. Children who do not commune may come forward for a blessing. 10

During communion with the saints, the assembly may light a candle in remembrance of a loved one. Please put long match down in glass jar rather than sharing it as the lit match ember may become too long and inadvertently fall off. Communion Songs The whole assembly is invited to praise Christ in song. I Am the Bread of Life ELW Hymn 485 On Eagle s Wings ELW Hymn 787 Blessing, Honor, and Glory ELW Hymn 433 *Prayer Let us pray. We give you thanks, Lord of all, that in this meal you give us a foretaste of the great feast to come. Keep us faithful to you, that we, with all your saints, may at length celebrate the marriage feast of the Lamb, Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen 11

Sending *Blessing The love of God who created you, the mercy of + Jesus Christ who died for you, and the power of the Holy Spirit who connects you with all the faithful, living and departed, remain with you now and forever. Amen. *Sending Song We Are Marching in the Light ELW Hymn 866 *Dismissal We came as sinners, let us go as saints. CCLI #678084 One License A-701076 The Toolkit all content Changing Church Forum, Inc.
