CHRISTMAS EVE 3:00 and 5:00 p.m. Services PRELUDE Rachel Heikkinen; piano-voice, Fiona Lazzari; flute-voice; Ethan Staback; piano (3:00) Julia Rapoport; voice (3:00 and 5:00 p.m.) Immanuel Festival Hand Bells, April Berkowski; Violin (5:00 p.m.) Organ; Eileen Baumgarten (5:00 p.m.) OPENING HYMN Once in Royal David's City" LSB 376 Soloist on verse 1, Ensemble on verse 2, congregation on verse 4 and 5. (Soloist) Once in royal David's city Stood a lowly cattle shed, Where a mother laid her baby In a manger for His bed: Mary was that mother mild, Jesus Christ her little child. (Ensemble) He came down to earth from heaven, Who is God and Lord of all, And His shelter was a stable, And His cradle was a stall; With the poor and mean and lowly Lived on earth our Savior holy. (Congregation) And our eyes at last shall see Him, Through His own redeeming love; For that child so dear and gentle Is our Lord in heav'n above; And He leads His children on To the place where He is gone. (Congregation) Not in that poor, lowly stable With the oxen standing by Shall we see Him, but in heaven, Set at God's right hand on high. Then like stars His children, crowned, All in white, His praise will sound! INVOCATION THE LIGHTING OF THE WREATH

The light of the world, given for us Noel Immanuel Festival Hand bells; (5:00 p.m.) PRAYERS THE LORD'S PRAYER CONFESSION AND ABSOLUTION Pastor: The Lord be with you. People: And also with you. 4

Pastor: The Lord is with us this evening and always! Tonight we remember our Lord who was born in strife to bring us life. We remember His birth. But as we ponder His love and the events of His birth, we also realize that looming in the background of the manger is the shape of a cross. This Child was born to die for you and for me; for the sins and the salvation of the world. In Him we place all our hope and trust, for He removes our fears. We are sinners in need of a Savior. Silently, let us reflect on and repent of our sins. (pause) Let us also rejoice in the One named Jesus, who came to save us from our sins. Let us confess our sins. People: Lord, have mercy on us and hear our prayer. We are lying in the muck and mire of sin. We have not fully placed our trust in You. Yet we are the reason You came to earth. Forgive us for those sins of which we are aware and those who are known only to You. Forgive us. Save us. Turn us away from our sins to follow in Your perfect ways. Amen. VERSE O Little Town of Bethlehem LSB 361 O holy Child of Bethlehem, descend to us, we pray; Cast out our sin and enter in, be born in us today. We hear the Christmas angels The great glad tidings tell; Oh, come to us, abide with us, our Lord Immanuel! Pastor: The name Jesus means Savior. He was given this name because He comes to save His people from their sins. His Word and work have been completed perfectly for you and me. Receive your Savior s full forgiveness along with His promises to remember your sins no more. As His called and ordained servant, I forgive you all your sins in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. People: Amen! So be it! By the grace of God, I am forgiven. THE WORDS OF OUR LORD Matthew 26:26 28; Mark 14:22 24; Luke 22:19 20; 1 Corinthians 11:23 25 Pastor: Our Lord Jesus Christ, on the night when He was betrayed, took bread, and when He had given thanks, He broke it and gave it to the disciples and said: Take, eat; this is My body, which is given for you. This do in remembrance of Me. 5

In the same way also He took the cup after supper, and when He had given thanks, He gave it to them, saying: Drink of it, all of you; this cup is the new testament in My blood, which is shed for you for the forgiveness of sins. This do, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of Me. COMMUNION Candles for the Service of Light may be picked up as you return from communion. We have both wax and battery operated candles for your choosing. If you do not receive a candle, the ushers will distribute them at the end of communion. DISTRIBUTION MUSIC "Our Lullaby" Immanuel Praise Band (3:00 p.m.) Hush little Baby don't You cry Heaven's watching out for You tonight watching You tonight Hush little Baby don't You fret Nothing's gonna hurt You not even death no not even death Chorus Lullaby let heaven and angels sing For You tonight for You tonight This is our lullaby Peace on earth has finally arrived Hush now Mary don't be afraid Baby done come to clear the way come to clear the way Hush now Joseph don't you fuss Soon this child gonna carry us gonna carry us The day will come soon enough When You are singing over us But tonight sleep in heavenly peace And we'll be the ones to sing 6

"Angels We Have Heard on High" LSB 368 Angels we have heard on high, Sweetly singing o'er the plains, And the mountains in reply, Echoing their joyous strains. Chorus Gloria in excelsis Deo. Gloria in excelsis Deo. Shepherds, why this jubilee? Why your joyous strains prolong? What the gladsome tidings be Which inspire your heav'nly song? Chorus Come to Bethlehem and see Him whose birth the angels sing; Come, adore on bended knee Christ the Lord, the newborn King. Chorus "O, Holy Night" Grayson Walther; soloist (3:00 p.m.) Danielle Chalifoux; soloist (5:00 p.m.) O holy night, the stars are brightly shining. It is the night of our dear Saviour s birth. Long lay the world in sin and error pining til He appeared and the soul felt its worth. A thrill of hope the weary world rejoices. For yonder breaks a new and glorious morn. Fall on your knees, O hear the angels voices. O night divine, O night when Christ was born. Truly he taught us to love one another. His law is love, and His gospel is peace. Chains He shall break for the slave is our brother. And in His Name all oppression shall cease. Sweet hymns of joy in grateful chorus raise we. Let all within us praise His holy Name. Christ is the Lord, o praise His Name forever. His pow r and glory evermore, Evermore proclaim His pow r and glory evermore, evermore proclaim. Fall on your knees, O hear the angel voices. O night divine, O night when Christ was born. O night divine, O night, O night divine. "A Great and Mighty Wonder" LSB 383 A great and mighty wonder, A full and holy cure: the virgin bears the infant With virgin honor pure! Chorus Proclaim the Savior's birth: "To God on high be glory and peace to all the earth!" The Word becomes incarnate And yet remains on high, and cherubim sing anthems To shepherds from the sky. Chorus While thus they sing your Monarch, Those bright angelic bands, Rejoice, O vales and mountains, and oceans, clap your hands. Chorus 7

Since all He comes to ransom, By all be He adored, The infant born in Bethl'em, The Savior and the Lord. Chorus All idols then shall perish And Satan's lying cease, and Christ shall raise His scepter, Decreeing endless peace. Chorus COMMUNION DISMISSAL THE SHARING OF LIGHT Representatives of Immanuel will approach the altar to receive the light. The light is carried to the congregation. Please dip your unlit candle into the flame of a burning candle. Pastor: Let us pray. Almighty God, You made this holy night shine with the brightness of the true Light. You have filled us with the Light of the World who became human and lived among us. Let the light of our faith in the Christ-Child shine in all we do and say. In His name we pray, live, and reflect His light. People: Amen Pastor: Arise, shine, for Your light has come, and the glory of the Lord has risen upon You. (Isaiah 60:1). For God, who said, "Let light shine out of darkness," made His light shine in our hearts to give us the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Christ (2 Corinthians 4:6) No longer will the sun be your light by day or the moon be your light by night; I, the Lord will be your eternal light; the light of My glory will shine on you (Isaiah 60:19). HYMN "Silent Night" LSB 363 Silent night, holy night! All is calm, all is bright Round yon virgin mother and child. Holy Infant, so tender and mild Sleep in heavenly peace, Sleep in heavenly peace. Silent night, holy night! Shepherds quake at the sight: Glories stream from heaven afar. Heavn'ly hosts sing Alleluia! Christ, the Savior is born! Christ, the Savior is born! Silent night, holy night! Son of God, love's pure light Radiant beams from Thy holy face. With the dawn of redeeming grace, Jesus, Lord, at Thy birth, Jesus, Lord, at Thy birth. 8

BLESSING Pastor: You have heard the message of the angels. Now share it. You have sung the "Gloria," now show Christ's glory. You have seen the gift. Now share it. You have been blessed to walk this night in the presence of angels. Let your joy be full and your thanks sound forth. The almighty God, the Father, the + Son, and the Holy Spirit bless you. People: Amen. CLOSING HYMN "Go Tell It on the Mountain" LSB 388 stz. 1 and 3 Chorus Go tell it on the mountain, Over the hills and ev'rywhere; Go tell it on the mountain That Jesus Christ is born! While shepherds kept their watching O'er silent flocks by night, Behold, throughout the heavens There shone a holy light. Chorus Down in a lonely manger The humble Christ was born; and God sent us salvation Than blessed Christmas morn. Chorus Organist: Eileen Baumgarten (5:00 p.m.) 9

GRACE SPACE And Jesus said, "Let the little children come to me, and do not stop them; for it is to such as these that the kingdom of heaven belongs."-matthew 19: 14 At Immanuel Lutheran Church, as Jesus did, we welcome children of all ages as integral members of the body of Christ, and we welcome the sounds and activity that accompany them! There are a number of options and activities designed for children to experience and participate in worship according to their needs, we trust families to work out the best option(s) for them and their child(ren) on any given day. We also understand that it takes a village to raise a child. A few tips for engaging our families with small children include: Greeting/learning the names of the young children who sit near you in worship. Offering to read or color with one child during worship, especially if another child in the family is especially fussy or upset. Helping preschoolers and elementary-aged kids to navigate the liturgy, locate the songs/hymns, etc. (Children learn to worship by participating!) Inviting kids to serve alongside you in worship, as greeters, ushers, etc. Grace Space will be provided at all services, supervision as available. Otherwise, we ask you to supervise your children when they are using Grace Space. Holy Communion is offered to those who have been instructed in what the Scriptures teach about Communion. We believe the Bible teaches: 1) Jesus Christ is our only Lord and Savior from all sin, death, and the power of evil; 2) The Risen Christ is really present in the Sacrament and that with the bread and wine we receive His Body and Blood; and 3) We resolve to dedicate our lives to the service of our Lord in His Body, the Church, through worship, sacrificial giving, and thankful living. The center of the individual cup trays contains non-alcoholic wine for those who prefer this substitute.
