WAYSIDE PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH Sunday, August 21, 2016 WELCOME I will show love to those who were called unloved and, to those who were called not-mypeople, I will say you are my people and they will answer, you are our God. (Hosea 2:23) Wayside Presbyterian Church (PCUSA) is a place where the mind is nourished as well as the spirit, and where we affirm the dignity and worth of every person. As we are all created in the image of God, we believe discrimination is incompatible with Christ s Gospel of unconditional love. While we celebrate our Presbyterian identity, we acknowledge that we are not alone on the path to understanding God. We invite conversations that move us to seek a deeper understanding of life in the Spirit. Be who you are and be welcome here. FOR OUR CHILDREN Childcare is available during the entire worship hour for infants and preschool children. Children may remain for the entire service or take advantage of childcare (kindergarten and younger). Children s worship activity bags are available for children remaining in the worship service. Please return them following worship. SERVICE NOTES A hearing enhancement system is available for those who have a need. An usher will be happy to provide you with a receiver this morning. PRESBYTERIAN WOMEN PW HONORARY LIFE MEMBERS Presbyterian Women of Wayside is looking for nominations for Honorary Life Members. An Honorary Life Membership in Presbyterian Women is conferred upon a woman or man in recognition of faithful service in some area of the church s work. Moderators, teachers, leaders, officers, pastors and missionaries have been among the recipients of this honor. A list of past recipients and nomination forms are on the Information Table. Deadline for nominations is September 18. SAVE THE DATE Our own Emma Haas, 2015-2016 Northern Ireland YAV (Young Adult Volunteer), will be the keynote speaker at the Presbyterian Women of Lake Erie Presbytery s Fall Gathering on Saturday October 15 from 9:30 AM 1:30 PM here at Wayside. The topic of the Gathering is Mission Matters. Watch the PW Bulletin Board, newsletters and bulletins for more information. CHRISTIAN EDUCATION CHILDCARE SCHEDULE Childcare is frequently a child s first exposure to the Christian community. When children are baptized, the congregation agrees to serve as the child s godparents. Serving in the nursery or preschool childcare rooms is a great way to fulfill this commitment. Starting last winter, we established a new procedure for ensuring there was sufficient coverage in the preschool and nursery childcare rooms. Each family with a child from newborn to Kindergarten age was asked to serve in one of the childcare rooms four (4) times per year during the later service. We will be making the same request this year. All volunteers MUST have their clearances completed prior to serving in childcare or in the Sunday School. If you have not completed this process or if you have questions about your status, please contact Karen Rae at steward@wayside-erie.org or call her at 833-7653 prior to September 11. A signup sheet is in the hallway outside the nursery. Please sign up for your four (4) days. A complete schedule will be sent out by email the week of September 19 so that you may put the dates on your calendar. Any slots not filled will be assigned. The last day for you to choose your own dates will be Sunday September 18. If there are dates for which you know you will not be available, please email Karen Shor in the office at wpc@wayside-erie.org. If you do not have a child of childcare age but have your clearances and would like to volunteer, please let Karen Shor know and she ll put you on the list to fill gaps. NEW ADULT EDUCATION OPPORTUNITY Beginning on Sunday September 18, James will be leading a class focusing on the Lord s Prayer. The class will take place during the regular Sunday School Hour. The same class will be repeated on Wednesday evenings at 6:30 PM beginning September 21. The class will utilize the Kerygma Program book Lord, Teach Us to Pray: Six Studies on Spirituality and the Lord s Prayer by John C. Purdy. Please sign up at the Information Table for either the Sunday or Wednesday class. In order to ensure that we have sufficient books available, please indicate whether you will be purchasing your own book or if you would like us to order one for you. Cost for the book if ordered through Wayside will be $10 which may be paid in advance or at the first class. Deadline for ordering a book from Wayside is Sunday September 11.
