Twenty-Seventh Sunday In Ordinary Time October 2, 2016 RESPECT LIFE SUNDAY October is Respect Life Month Month of the Rosary - Disability Awareness Month Tuesday October 4 th This coming Tuesday, October 4 th, the priests of our parish will have the annual Blessing of the Animals in honor of the Feast Day of St. Francis of Assisi. We ask that all owners and their pets assemble in the elementary school parking lot (L-yard) by 5:30pm. Our priests will then come out and have a brief prayer service with everyone, then go around and bless each animal individually. Please come out and support this annual and special tradition! Installation of the Seventh (7 th ) Pastor On Saturday October 29 th, the tradition of our beloved parish begins a new chapter! Our Pastor, Fr. Brendan A. Fitzgerald will be installed as the 7 th Pastor of St. Barnabas Parish at the 5:00pm Mass in the High School Chapel. A reception with an opportunity to greet and congratulate Fr. Fitzgerald will follow in the High School Cafeteria. The goal of this group is to develop a core band that would eventually lead a Praise and Worship night (not a Mass), but a form of worship that is social and fun, and geared toward young people. I know we have SO much talent here at Saint Barnabas- I think we could put together an amazing group- so dust off your guitar or drum set, and consider helping to put this together! Our Guitar teacher will lead this group, teach the songs and guide everyone. (The group is looking to meet either on Friday night or possibly Saturday afternoon.) Irish Volunteers for the Homeless needs your help! RESPECT LIFE COMMITTEE: OCTOBER IS RESPECT LIFE MONTH. We are beginning the month with a LIFE CHAIN TODAY, SUNDAY, October 2 nd that will run along 241 st Street beginning at the Considine Center. We will be standing in solidarity with parishes in New York City as well as in New York State that are participating in the awareness of the sanctity of LIFE at any stage. Please join us for one hour beginning after the 10:30am Mass. The Baby Bottle Drive will be launched also with proceeds going to an Expectant Mother Center. A purity of heart requires one to seek what is right. From September 28 th through November 6 th all Catholics are invited to join in the 40 Days of Life campaign to end abortion. You can either do 40 days of prayer and fasting or/and to stand peacefully and pray in front of a Planned Parenthood Center. Consider joining our Respect Life Committee. They need drivers (transport provided) to bring volunteers down to Manhattan on a Monday night and hand out food to the homeless. It only requires a commitment of a few hours once a month or less, and is a great act of kindness towards those who are less fortunate.
