GENERAL INFORMATION Church Name: Christ s Church of the Valley Royersford, PA Date: 09/2014 Church website / Position: www.moviechurch.com / Arts Pastor Submitted by: Tim Foot, Lead Associate / Worship Division HISTORY Christ s Church of the Valley Royersford, PA (CCV) began in 1999 when Senior Pastor Brian Jones and his wife Lisa accepted the challenge to move to the northwest suburbs of Philadelphia to start a new church for the fast-growing Montgomery County area. In just a few short years, CCV has grown from a handful of people meeting in Brian s living room to over 1,800 people celebrating together every weekend. CCV s mission is to help people become fully devoted followers of Jesus. A core belief is that church is not just about Sunday services it s about people. Church is about mission, it s about changing lives, and being part of something that really matters. At CCV, weekend services are energetic, engaging, and a lot of fun. Teaching is Bible-based and practical. The result is a place where people from every spiritual background feel at home. People are accepted at CCV just the way they are, and they won't find a "holier than thou" attitude. It s a place that s all about loving people one person at a time, and taking the things of God seriously without taking themselves too seriously. CCV is more than one person or a small group of people. Hundreds of amazing people serve each week teaching, greeting, reaching out, setting up and tearing down, singing, praying and giving all to make the church body and campus come alive. There's a place for everyone at CCV, no matter where they are in their journey. CCV is a part of the Restoration Movement a loosely associated denomination promoting individual autonomy among aligned independent Christian churches that share common theology and doctrine (visit: http://www.christianchurchtoday.com/who/ for helpful info). There are no headquarters or denominational office where leaders lead the church from the outside. CCV is led by leaders from within the church. Nationally, there are over 6,000 churches similar to CCV with approximately 1.5 million members. Staying true to their roots, they are looking for an Arts Pastor who is theologically aligned with the church in both education and successful ministry experience from an independent Christian Church/Restoration movement background. A candidate s theology and church/education background will be a key component in their consideration. The comprehensive theological beliefs and church government description are listed in detail on the church website under What We Believe. 1

CURRENT STATUS Senior Pastor Brian Jones and his staff and elder team provide the vision and leadership to live out the core values and mission (see website) of CCV.. Located in a predominantly Catholic and Jewish environment, CCV is known in the community for their practical Bible teaching, quality worship, excellent and creative presentation of the gospel, strong youth ministry program, and their willingness to serve the community. Originally meeting in a movie theater (hence the web address http://www.moviechurch.com/) they moved to their current campus in 2006, into a building that replicated the movie theater look and feel that they had been used to. With the addition of their current building in 2009, they now have 50,000 sq. ft of building space which sits on 19 acres of land. Each weekend 1,800+ people come to worship together in their modern multi-purpose worship center, which can be quickly transformed into a youth experience, a gym, or a multiuse room for community events. CCV s strong use of media, engaging worship and technology creates a powerful, 1-hour worship and teaching experience. Currently, CCV is involved in casting vision to their church body through a new strategic plan that is championing growth toward reaching their community in a greater way than ever before and becoming a church that sees over 2,500 people engaging in worship each weekend. LOCATION / DEMOGRAPHIC CCV is located in Royersford, PA in Montgomery County, 32 miles northwest of Philadelphia on the Schuylkill River and is a very attractive bedroom community of the greater Philly area. It has a main street shopping area, as well as many small businesses and neighborhood shopping centers that serve residents in the surrounding townships. It is also close to the largest shopping mall in the USA (King of Prussia Mall) and is convenient driving distance from huge cities like New York, Baltimore and D.C. This area has much to offer through local infrastructure and is a very viable and attractive place to raise a family with quality housing and excellent schools. Given its position, CCV has become a regional church with a great name and influence in the surrounding communities. It reflects the local demographics well; married with children (27 47 year olds) medium to upper middle class, well-educated, some who represent local business and industry, and many who commute to professional vocations in the city. (Average household income of $92K/year, etc.) There is a definite family focus with the best-represented age demographic hitting the 27-47 range and the kids and students that come with that. Family ministries are strong at CCV. 2

WORSHIP STYLE CCV s edgy, rock driven brand is reminiscent of Hillsong United, Passion, and Elevation Worship. They aim for their song lyrics to be true to their message, their song choices to be singable and their one style expressed in three Sunday morning services at 9.00, 10.15, and 11.30 AM to be relevant. Non-music elements that support the theme and message in illustrative and powerful ways are also valued in the weekend gathering. They are intentional in their use of video, set design, and also humor to draw people in and put them at ease. A desire for creative collaboration is evident as they work hard to create a powerful, onehour worship and teaching experience. Their band set up is mostly standard; guitars, keys, bass, and drums with two or three vocals (and occasional auxiliary instrumentation like horns). They play to click track, regularly use loops, and have high production values. LEADERSHIP Leadership is made up of passionate men and women dedicated to reaching a 10-mile radius of communities for the glory of God. Senior Pastor Brian Jones and Executive Pastor Kevin Stone share a profound desire to speak life into the CCV community. Brian is a gifted, motivated teacher and author who leads with a confident, Christ-centered grace. Kevin oversees the leadership team and day-today staff operations. CCV is a staff led, elder protected church. The Leadership Team consists of Brian and up to 6 others. They meet quarterly and collectively are responsible for defining the ends of the organization. Brian leads the staff with Kevin reporting directly to him. The remainder of the staff report directly to Kevin. The staff defines the means of the organization, and the structure basically follows the guidelines set forth in Carver Policy Governance. An annual financial plan is developed by the executive staff for approval by the Leadership Team in December for the coming year. The Leadership Team receive routine updates and are involved in high-level state of the church discussions at the quarterly meetings, while not involving themselves too closely in day-to-day decision-making. 3

CHALLENGE The Northeast United States has its unique set of challenges culturally, but the rewards for the called are HUGE! An intuitive, balanced leader with a healthy sense of self is required (i.e. a thick skin!) as the people in the Philadelphia suburbs are real people, living out real faith in a fast paced world. They ll say what they think, but have a lot of love to give! Being sensitive to the cultural learning curve will also be important. Over-communication in the early days regarding creative ideas and process changes, will be helpful, and building trust with the team will be essential. Valuing collaboration, allowing team buy-in/weigh-in and not assuming knowledge, are all advisable. As with any church that has experienced rapid growth, continual evaluation of processes, best practices and creative formulas will be necessary and should be approached sensitively. Brian is a creative leader and desires collaboration. Investing in that relationship and learning his teaching style and the kind of partnership, which will complement that, will require time, effort, respect and humility. The rewards for this kind of investment will be a fulfilling and creative arts ministry! OPPORTUNITY This is a growing and dynamic ministry environment at a key church that is having influence way beyond its geographical location. It doesn t come with a history of sacred cows needing to be slaughtered; in fact, much of the worship and creative culture heavy lifting has been done. This is a healthy church that sees the arts as essential to accomplishing its mission, and desires an Arts Pastor who can create powerful worship moments and facilitate an authentic connection with God. This vibrant community is eager for their new leader to come and build upon the great foundation laid by its former Arts Pastor who had a healthy tenure and exit. For the right called leader whose vision matches the direction of the church, the sky is the limit. Not only will this be a great place to thrive in long term ministry, but also a wonderful community to be a part of as a family.
