Christ Church is Making Connections & Offering Opportunities for Faith, Love & Service Weekly Update - July 18 Christ United Methodist Church Harlem & Saratoga Roads Amherst, NY 14226 A Word From Pastor Daven "I have called you by name and you are mine." Isaiah 43:1 I have a notepad that sits upon my desk. A gift from my Dad, and when given he left a small handwritten note upon it. You are precious, especially so because you are my son. There are variety of reasons why I have kept it there since it was given, as I am sure you can imagine. But one of them is related to the reminder of who I am and whose I am. This is not just about remembering that we come from somewhere and who and how we are is as much about representing ourselves as all those people that claim the same name. For me this is also a reminder of my faith. We often reference God as holy parent. We hear in scripture, prayer and song the whisper that we are precious and that we are God s own children. But I am not sure we as readily remember that this means that we represent this name, this identity - God to the world. If only a handwritten note from God stared back at us as we went about our labors daily! We are, each of us, precious in God s sight because we are all children of God. The note is there written large in the faces of those we encounter daily and in the mirror reflected back to us. May we live up to and into our identity, to represent our Holy Parent and our faith family to the world. -Pastor Daven
