The NAVIGATOR Strengthening The Church and Impacting Lostness Volume 5 October-November 2012 Issue 5 The Bi-Monthly Newsletter of the Tar River Baptist Association Charting His Course By: Dougald McLaurin Associational Missionary And He said to them, Go into all the world and preach the gospel to all creation. Mark 16:15 I love this time of the year! The coolness of the evening reminds me of the coming of Thanksgiving my favorite holiday as we have opportunity to express our gratefulness for the blessings God bestows by thankful living! It is also a special time that energizes me as I pray, plan, and strategize for the new year in our member churches. Please join me in praying DAI- LY for the member churches of the association as we strive to become all that we can be in Christ and achieve His purpose. The Pastor/Deacon and Spouses Dinner/Program launched our Fall Program and 2013 Theme. The scripture passage is Romans 13: 11-14. Awaken Our Hearts To Becoming His Church serves as our earnest prayer with the REALIZATION that Radical Repentance and TOTAL Obedience MUST take place for our prayer to be answered! It is my prayer that God will use the efforts of the association to strengthen His church so that we will truly impact the lostness that exists all around us. At these meetings, expect more and more of the vision and strategies from ministry councils to be shared. When dates for training are established, mark your calendars and plan to attend. Your church will be strengthened through your participation. The Fall Meeting will be Monday, October 29th (NOTE DATE CHANGE) at Bunn Baptist Church. Reservations are needed for the meal, but the program begins at 6:30 PM. The proposed budget for the 2013 is posted on the TRBA website for review and the nominations for leadership will be posted soon. Those will be the major items of business. Any additional recommendations, agenda, etc. related to the Fall Meeting will be listed on the website as they become available. As we approach the 2012/2013 Associational Year, we will be re-structuring to the changes you approved in the TRBA ByLaws during 2012. Much of the association s schedule will be related to specific training/equipping events to assist our churches in becoming stronger in their witness/ministry for the Lord. For the church to accomplish its purpose and impact the communities we serve today, there is a real need for us to more regularly evaluate the way we are and commit ourselves more to what God would have us to be in Him. Through association-wide training and TRBA Staff s commitment to work individually with member churches, it is our hope to be a real help to churches that have chosen to reach their communities and the world. If your church has specific areas of training needs, call on TRBA Staff! We will provide all that we can to be of help to you. We are indeed committed to walk alongside you as you strive to become the church God is calling you to be in your community. As always, I make myself available to you. Feel free to call on me. I pledge my continued prayers for you and solicit your prayers as I strive to become what God would have me to be as your Associational Missionary. All is Christ, Dougald

Matthew 28:19 Church Development and Community Ministries We just completed another successful Back-to-School supply drive/partnership. Due to the overwhelming amount of supplies received, each elementary and middle school received a box of supplies with enough left over to make additional donations. These supplies were delivered by several volunteers from and the Franklin County Mission Prayer Team on behalf of the association. The volunteers reported that each school was greatly appreciative for the supplies and we were assured that the donations would be distributed with care. We were grateful to learn that several member churches formed partnerships with local schools and continue to follow up. Please see your Pastor, WMU or EMBRACE director to learn how you can help. Christmas Family Ministry 2012 has begun! Hopefully each church has received information regarding this wonderful ministry that continues to impact our community. If you have not received information regarding CFM 2012, you can access a flyer and other information on our website, www.tarriverbaptist.org. Again this year, several churches have volunteered to assist as distribution sites. If you have further questions, contact me directly: Joe@tarriverbaptist.com. I would be glad to assist you in any way I can! As always, we cannot conduct this ministry without volunteers, donations and the prayers from our churches. Please begin to think how you can participate in this year s ministry! In Christ, Joe We are currently in need of monetary donations! Church & Community Ministries Mission and Ministry Opportunities Meredith Byrd-Church Ministries Director meredith@tarriverbaptist.com or 919-496-7172 HOPE Crusade 2013 We are excited to announce that we have a location for the 2013 Message of Hope Crusade being sponsored by Tar River churches. The Lord answered our prayers and we have set Louisburg Elementary school as the site for our tent crusade. The tent will be set up near the playground at the back of the school and there is plenty of parking around the school and surrounding area for the hundreds of people we are expecting to attend. I have a couple of questions to ask each and every member of area churches as we prepare for this major event: 1. Will you pray with us concerning this crusade? Will you pray that the Lord would drop the "Satanic blinders" off so many people in our area that they may see the truth of the Gospel? We have already organized a prayer team, led by Sherri Barham, that will be praying that the Gospel would reach hearts. We are planning a 24/7 prayer vigil during the week of the crusade. To see this event be a success, we must be on our knees! 2. Will you get involved? We need traffic and security personnel, church van drivers for transportation, worship team/choir members for the crusade music, helpers to set up the tent, trained counselors for after the Gospel is presented, and many types of follow up jobs. If you would like to get involved please call the Tar River Association office and put your name on the list. It is imperative that we have over 100 people involved to make this a success. Training events for counselors and church follow-up will be offered by TRBA. 3. Will you get your church on board? We MUST have all of the area churches and TRBA churches behind this to make it a success. We need each church to be promoting this from the pulpit so that church members are praying and inviting their lost friends and neighbors. 4. Would you consider financially supporting this effort? There is a very limited amount of money set aside for this major evangelistic outreach. We are going to need the support of churches and individuals to help with this endeavor. We have large plans that will require some money set aside. We would like to rent billboards, make tracts, put out radio ads, and do many other things that do cost money. I hope your church will get involved and that many of you will send a contribution to help make this project possible. It has been suggested that churches may wish to contribute what they normally would for their spring revival. All contributions can be send to the Tar River office with the designation: 2013 Hope Crusade. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me. Our council is meeting to pray and continue in the vast amount of preparations. In Christ, Jason Havens Pastor, Maple Springs Baptist Church Chairman, Crusade Planning Council

Luke 18:1 Franklin County Mission Update Franklin County Mission invites you to the first monthly update meeting since the 2012 summer. Saturday, October 13, 2012 at 9:00am at TRBA. We have had many irons in the fire over the summer. The prayer team continued monthly prayer drives all over Franklin county and surrounding counties. God has used the prayer drives to deepen the burden for homeless children, resulting in the FCM board redefining the plans for FCM from starting with a temporary men s shelter to pursuing immediate solutions for homeless children, women, and families. We have helped many families and individuals over the past several months with temporary shelter and resources. Over 1000 pop-top meals and hygiene kits have been distributed through the soup kitchens on a monthly basis. The FCM board has been working on a permanent site and has refocused FCM to be a family resource center providing more than just food and temporary shelter for the homeless. They have been working diligently on zoning, grants, and administrative necessities. The Prayer Team partnered with TRBA in delivering school supplies to the area schools and used it as an opportunity to pray for each campus specifically. They are identifying a greater need for church school partnerships. There are great opportunities to have impact with the gospel if we would be His hands and feet in the public schools through being consistent volunteers to listen to a child read, adopt a school to encourage the staff and students, or support through monetary giving. If we want to impact this generation and the next, PRAY, FAST, GIVE, and GET INVOLVED. The GOOD NEWS is worthy of our obedience and sacrifice.
