THE UNITED PARISH Journeying together, we worship God and serve the community A CELEBRATION OF ST GEORGE St Mary s Church Greywell Sunday 24th April 11.00am The United Parish of Newnham with Nately Scures with Mapledurwell with Up Nately with Greywell

Please say the words in bold type WELCOME AND NOTICES HYMN - please stand And did those feet in ancient time Walk upon England s mountains green? And was the holy Lamb of God On England s pleasant pastures seen? And did that countenance divine Shine forth upon our crowded hills? And was Jerusalem builded here, Among those dark Satanic mills. Bring me my bow of burning gold! Bring me my arrows of desire! Bring me my spear! O clouds, unfold! Bring me my chariot of fire! I will not cease from mental fight, Nor shall my sword sleep in my hand, Till we have built Jerusalem In England s green and pleasant land. INVITATION TO WORSHIP Come close to God and he will come close to you All: O God our heavenly Father, in our worship help us to come near to you, to sing your praise, to confess our sins, to hear your word and to bring our prayers to you, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

CONFESSION - saying sorry to God - please sit or kneel The Lord is gracious and merciful, slow to anger and of great kindness. Let us tell God that we are sorry for our sins and ask him to forgive us. For turning away from you and ignoring your will for our lives: For behaving just as we wish without thinking of you: For failing you by what we do and think and say: For letting ourselves be drawn away from you by temptations in the world about us For living as if we were ashamed to belong to your Son May God our heavenly Father forgive us all the sins we have now confessed to him and help us to serve him better in the days to come. Amen. THE LORD S PRAYER Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, the power and the glory for ever and ever. Amen.

SHARING.. our news, our birthdays HYMN He who would valiant be gainst all disaster, Let him in constancy follow the Master. There s no discouragement shall make him once relent His first avowed intent to be a pilgrim. Since, Lord, Thou dost defend us with Thy Spirit, We know we at the end shall life inherit. Then fancies flee away! I ll fear not what men say, I ll labour night and day to be a pilgrim. Who so beset him round with dismal stories Do but themselves confound his strength the more is. No foes shall stay his might; though he with giants fight, He will make good his right to be a pilgrim. THE STORY OF ST GEORGE THE BIBLE READING - please sit We listen to God s word. At the end the reader may say: This is the word of the Lord. All: Thanks be to God. The children are invited to come to the front. THE TALK

SONG Be bold be bold Be strong be strong For the Lord your God is with you. Be bold be bold Be strong be strong For the Lord your God is with you. I am not afraid No! No! No! I am not dismayed, Because I m walking in faith and victory, Come on and walk in faith and victory, For the Lord your God is with you. HYMN - please stand 1 Jesus, Lord of our salvation, for thy warrior, bold and true, now accept our thankful praises, and our strength do thou renew, that, like George, with courage dauntless we may all our foes subdue. 2 Blazoned on our country's banner England bears the knightly sign: Lord, our fatherland empower, that, endued with strength divine, she may evermore with courage bear the standard that is thine. 5 Jesus, Lord, thou mighty Victor, thy all-glorious name we praise: thou art with us, God almighty; 'midst our ranks thy shout we raise: where thy kingly war-cry soundeth, lead us on through all our days. 3 Fill her youth with manly spirit, patient, self-restrained, and pure, of thy cause the ready champions, never flinching to endure hardness for the name of Jesus: so their triumph shall be sure. 4 Teach her manhood to confess thee as the Master, Lord, and King; all their powers consecrated to thy service may men bring, and of loyal speech and action make to thee an offering.

THE CREED - remain standing Let us declare our faith in God We believe and trust in God the Father who made all things. We believe and trust in his Son, Jesus Christ, who redeemed the world. We believe and trust in the Holy Spirit who gives life to the people of God. This is our faith. We believe and trust in one God, Father, Son and Holy Spirit. Amen. May Almighty God strengthen this faith in us day by day. Amen. PRAYER TIME - please sit or kneel HYMN - please stand - a collection will be taken Lord, for the years your love has kept and guided, urged and inspired us, cheered us on our way, sought us and saved us, pardoned and provided: Lord of the years, we bring our thanks today. Lord, for that word, the word of life which fires us, speaks to our hearts and sets our souls ablaze, teaches and trains, rebukes us and inspires us: Lord of the word, receive your people s praise. Lord, for our land in this our generation, spirits oppressed by pleasure, wealth and care: for young and old, for commonwealth and nation, Lord of our land, be pleased to hear our prayer. Lord, for our world; when we disown and doubt you, loveless in strength, and comfortless in pain, hungry and helpless, lost indeed without you: Lord of the world, we pray that Christ may reign. Lord for ourselves; in living power remake us - self on the cross and Christ upon the throne, past put behind us, for the future take us: Lord of our lives, to live for Christ alone. Words: Timothy Dudley-Smith, copyright Timothy Dudley-Smith, used by permission CCL 1304175

CLOSING PRAYERS - remain standing O Lord as we leave your house may the words, which we have heard, and the prayers, which we have said, help us to keep close to you in our daily lives. Send us out in the power of your Spirit to live and work to your praise and glory. Amen. BLESSING Go in peace to love and serve the Lord. In the name of Christ. Amen. Please stay for refreshments after the service and visit the Earth Day stand Competition for the best costume as St George or the Dragon!
