MOOSE TAILS O Fallon-Fairview Heights IL Lodge #2608 Loyal Order of Moose The Little Lodge With A Lot Of Moose Heart Volume 9, Issue 3 May June 2011 EASTER EGG HUNT There were kids running all over the large hall the day before Easter in pursuit of the eggs that had been hidden by the Easter Bunny. No place was safe from their sharp eyes and quick hands. They looked under tables and chairs, behind flags and wall decorations, even on top of the thermostats! While waiting for the search to begin, they built up their energy by consuming cookies and milk, then relaxing with some crafts and coloring. We would like to thank the Women s Auxiliary of Post 805 and WOTM Chapter 2281 for hosting this annual event. PUTT-PUTT GOLF PLAYERS SURVIVE Another successful putt-putt around town was held on April 9 th, and most, if not all, of the players survived to tell about it another day, as these pictures attest to. We do know one thing, everyone enjoyed themselves. The winning team, Kip s Chicks, donated their prize money back to the Lodge. Thank you Sheri, Sharon, Kim, and Kip for your generous gesture. We hope all of you will join us when we have the fall edition of the putt-putt around town. POSTAL CARRIER S FOOD DRIVE This is a reminder that we need 8 10 people to help with the annual food drive sponsored by the U. S. Postal Service on Saturday, May 14 at both the O Fallon Post Office and O Fallon Township Hall from 11:30 am until approximately 5 pm. This is the first year we will help at our own post office instead of Belleville. Come on out for a little bit of work and a lot of camaraderie. Never pay dues again repeat Never pay dues again! SPONSOR 2 NEW OR FORMER MEMBERS THIS CAMPAIGN AND YOUR NEXT YEAR S DUES ARE FREE! How is this possible? Thanks to Moose International s efforts, a program was started to help gain new members and keep the existing ones that we have. You don t have to do anything except sponsor two new or former members, and you will receive in the mail a new card that shows your new dues expiration date. How much easier can that be? Get out there and sign up some members and save money! No Man Stands So Straight And Tall... As When He Stoops To Lift Up A Child. James J. Davis REMEMBER THE LAST FRIDAY OF THE MONTH AT THE V

TOMMY MOOSE PRESENTED TO ILLINOIS STATE POLICE DIST. 11 Last month, the Lodge presented Tommy Moose stuffed animals to District 11 of the Illinois State Police. Shown in the picture from left to right are Wayne Schlosser, Administrator; Master Sergeant James Vest; Jeff Jerashen, Governor; and Tony Dodge, Jr. Past Governor. Sgt. Vest said that they have used stuffed animals in the past, and found them to be a help when presented to children in stressful situations. The Lodge also supports the program by providing Tommy Moose bookmarks to various school and public libraries in the area. ROB & NORA AGUILAR DID IT!!! Did they just get married? No. Just join the Moose? No. Win the Queen of Hearts? You got it! On the 53 rd week of the drawing, Rob pulled the Queen, and the celebrating began. Rob wanted to pull the other card, but Nora convinced(?) him that it was not the right one, and he took her advice. We are so happy for the two of them. It just so happened that their basement had flooded, with all the recent rains we have been having, and it sure helped to defray some of the expenses associated with the repairs. The new game started the next week, and the pot has been enhanced with a generous donation from the Aguilars. SHIRT AND CAP ORDERS For those of you who ordered shirts and caps from Tony, they are ready to be picked up and paid for. Please do this as soon as possible so he doesn t have to keep carrying them around. Thank you. CHICKEN WING NOTICE The Chicken Wing Growers of O Fallon sent us a letter saying that due to the wet weather we have been having this spring, they would not be able to plant enough wing seeds to supply us completely until later this summer. Because this is a cool weather crop, we must limit our Wing Nites to just Thursdays until the football season, to allow them time to plant and harvest the wings. In other words, thank you for supporting our Wing Nites (Monday, Tuesday, & Thursday) for the past 6 months. It s summer, and our volunteers need some time off to get their chores done around the house. Our wing sales will be limited to Thursdays only. Again thanks for supporting the Wing Nites.

FROM THE ADMINISTRATOR S QUILL Here it is, the beginning of a new program and fiscal year. Time to reflect on the successes and failures (learning experiences) of last year. I m sure that the officers of both the Lodge and Chapter have some new ideas that they would like to try this year. I ve learned through the years that the best way to chloroform creative thinking and to squelch new ideas is to say things like We ve always done it that way or That will never work. I know that I have been guilty of saying those things many times, and I m trying really hard to avoid it. Will you try to avoid it this coming year? Both our Lodge and Chapter need to go forward, not backward. We got a good start with membership in the last couple of months, but this is not the time to slack off. Create some interest in joining the Moose. Tell people about the good things that we do, the fun that we have, and the benefits of becoming a member. People will want to join. Try it and see if it works! You ll never know if you don t try.
