Stillwater Catholic Worker Community Peace House - House Mother Opportunity We are in need of a compassionate woman to live in Peace House and help guide it in its path and function as a safe, welcoming, encouraging place of respite and renewal for women and children in crisis living situations. If you are interested in considering this opportunity or know of others who might be, please call Kim Barnhart at 651-270-1981. Respect Life News When a Friend is Considering Abortion If someone shared with you that she was pregnant and hadn't ruled out having an abortion, would you know how to respond? Although the first instinct may be to convince her that abortion ends a baby's life, hearing facts is not the first thing she needs. Research shows that many women in a pregnancy crisis think, "This is the end of my life as I know it." To face the challenges before her, your friend needs to know you care about her for her own sake and she is not alone. First listening to your friend will help build trust and facilitate openness. Eventually, when she knows you truly care about her and she trusts you, you can share the truth in love. You can share facts about abortion, her own intrinsic worth, and the practical help and support available so she can choose life for herself and her baby. Catholic Cursillo Community Retreat Awaken your hunger for God! Live your Baptismal call with renewed fervor! The Catholic Cursillo Community would like to extend an invitation to you to consider attending the next Cursillo retreat at Guardian Angels Church in Oakdale. The Men s weekend is August 2-5 and the Women s weekend is August 9-12. The website contains more information: tc-cursillo.org We would be glad to talk with you about this opportunity. Chuck and Louise Stevens 651-439-8155 Paula and Joe McGrath 651-770-7552 We ve all had a profound experience in our lives that we look back upon and wonder how we ever got along, at least in our relationship with God, without that incredible life-changing event. That moment for me took place almost 20 years ago when I reluctantly accepted an invitation from a very close friend to attend an upcoming Cursillo weekend. To this day, I meet with fellow Cursillestas on a weekly basis to share and relive the powerful impact Cursillo has made in our lives. My friendship with the Lord will never feel the same because of those days spent in His presence. I encourage you to take the leap. Be not afraid. Please call me with any questions concerning Cursillo, and the upcoming weekends at Guardian Angels Church in Oakdale. Dear All, I thought I would catch you up on a little news about my new assignment! We have some very good news about the new rector for the Saint Paul Seminary, Fr. Joe Taphorn. Fr. Taphorn is currently the pastor of the John Paul II Newman center at the University of Nebraska at Omaha and will be officially starting at SPS on January 1, 2019. In addition to this news, the Archbishop has asked me to take Fr. Taphorn s place at the University of Nebraska-Omaha starting this August and probably for the next year. It is looking like we will be in residence together until he officially begins at SPS on Jan. 1 in which case he will move up to the Cities and I will remain. Talk about unexpected (you should have seen my Mom s reaction)! Bishop Cozzens proposed it to me as a missionary year and I could not be more excited about this as it will involve so much of what gives me life as a priest and disciple preaching, evangelizing, discipling, relational ministry, confessions, etc. It will cost me sacrificially in that I will be far away from you all in Stillwater, my family and the Companions of Christ. But I think it will be a good placement for me and certainly a great place to learn and help draw young people close to the Lord. Please pray for me, particularly that I can be a good priest, witness to the Gospel and shepherd of the Lord to these young people. Sincerely in Christ, Fr. Anderson St. Mary s Parish News Marriages Congratulations to Taylor Nelson and John Mitzel who were married on July 21. New parishioners Welcome to our parish community, new members Thomas and Mary Conroy and their son Patrick. Small appliances must be in working order. Little Sisters of the Poor The Little Sisters of the Poor will be at the St. Michael s Masses next weekend July 28/29. The Little Sisters of the Poor are an international congregation of Roman Catholic women religious founded in 1839 by Saint Jeanne Jugan. Together with a diverse network of collaborators, we serve the elderly poor in over 30 countries around the world. Continuing the work of Saint Jeanne Jugan, our MISSION is to offer the neediest elderly of every race and religion a home where they will be welcomed as Christ, cared for as family and accompanied with dignity until God calls them to himself. Our VISION is to contribute to the Culture of Life by nurturing communities where each person is valued, the solidarity of the human family and the wisdom of age are celebrated, and the compassionate love of Christ is shared with all. They will speak at the Masses and a second collection will be taken. Donations to St. Vincent de Paul Conference Matched August - September Catholic Financial Life will again match your charitable donations to our St. Vincent de Paul Conference beginning this August through September 27 (feast day of St. Vincent de Paul). Qualifying donations are those made directly to the Conference, donations through the St. Michael s poor box (in the church) or parish envelopes, and by conference members at our regular meetings. Our partnering organization, Catholic Financial Life, is a provider of insurance products focused on regional Catholic organizations and families. They have partnered with our conference for several years as a way of giving back to our community and to enhance the value of your charitable giving. Our St. Vincent de Paul Conference is active in several ways: We meet with those who come to our parish with immediate needs that can be addressed with simple acts like getting a gas card, arranging for lodging, transportation, or a meal. For more involved needs, such as housing or utility problems, more extensive assistance is needed and typically visits to the home by a pair of Vincentians are needed. In all these ministries the key is a faith-based person-to-person opportunity to serve Christ in the person of the needy. Providing material assistance with Christian compassion and witness is at the heart of our Vincentian Mission. We invite you to consider joining us in this mission of charity by contacting us and visiting at one of our regular meetings. Please contact Bob Norris at 430-3099 with any questions. 5
