There also will be books on hand if you would like to purchase one; the cost is $9.50. THIS SUNDAY MAY 13 FROM PASTOR JOHN I am about to end this sermon series on Uncomfortable Christianity. But rather than end on a question or a low perspective, we Christians do have reason to celebrate. We celebrate because Jesus is our Messiah and in him we find our salvation. The words of a Christian song, written by Lenny LeBlanc say it all... There is none like you. No one else can touch my heart like you do. I could search for all eternity long and find there is none like you. Yes, in the midst of all of life's foibles, frustrations and failures, we find absolute and total hope in the risen Christ. Christ can take the most uncomfortable situation and provide for us a salvation found in none other. So this Sunday, let's celebrate. Let's celebrate our faith. Let's celebrate God's grace. Let's celebrate all we are and all we can be because God has given us Jesus to be the Savior of the World, including the Savior for each one of us. And in the end, we will say, thanks be to God! The Handbell Choir will be playing this Sunday with the newly reconditioned bells. Women s Sunday Morning Movie Discussion Group 1 & 2 Thessalonians: How Can I Be Sure? LifeGuide Bible Studies InterVarsity Press By Donald Baker The Adult Sunday School class is now studying Paul s two letters to the Thessalonians. This study addresses important questions of life and faith that sometimes bring us feelings of anxiety. We meet at 9:00am every Sunday morning for an uplifting time of coffee, tea, fellowship, prayer, and study. Please join us in room #106. For the past 5 weeks the discussion topic was Satan, the evil one, and sin. Our group discussed what the Bible says about Satan and how scripture can shape our views of evil and why it s important for us to know the power that God gives us to overcome evil. Beginning this Sunday May 13, at 9:30am, this group will view and discuss the movie Maudie, an inspiring story of a crippled but very creative folk artist who lived in poverty, was treated shamefully by her brother and aunt, yet learned to love and be loved and found deep joy in the world she saw from her one room house in the seacoast town of Digby in Nova Scotia. We want to invite you to check out the women s discussion group. This group is where multi-generational women connect in a safe, small environment to study God s Word, to grow in our relationship with Jesus, to encourage and support one another in times of joy and hardship, and celebrate the deep bonds that form through prayer and Bible study.
NEXT SUNDAY MAY 20 DON T HAVE ANY RED CLOTHING? Wear yellow, orange or any bright color to symbolize the tongues of fire (Acts 2:3) that came upon the people present at Pentecost. About Pentecost: Fifty days after Jesus resurrection, on a harvest festival day, a crowd gathered to celebrate in Jerusalem. Suddenly, there was a sound from heaven like the roaring of a windstorm. What looked like flames or tongues of fire appeared and settled on each of them. And everyone present was filled with the Holy Spirit. On Pentecost, (Pentecost comes from the Greek word pentekoste, meaning fifty) two thousand years ago, about 3,000 people came to believe in Christ. That s why today Christians remember this powerful event as the birthday of the church. Our sincere gratitude for all the prayers, visits, support and kindness we received from our JCPC family during Mark s illness and passing. With thankful hearts, The Baker Family Night Light A Study of Joshua Begins May 15 and ends June 19 This group will study the book of Joshua on Tuesday evenings for six weeks.
