U N A B A P T I S T C H U R C H The Una Vision Volume 11 Issue 3 2018 March Newsletter I ve been reading a book that contains the letters of John Newton who lived several centuries ago in England. Do you know Newton? The name may be familiar to you-he is the author of arguably the best known hymn in the world, Amazing Grace. John Newton had lived a life that was as far from God as you could imagine. Think of the parable that Jesus told about the Prodigal Son and insert Newton s name. He was that bad and worse. A slave trader, women in every port, taking advantage of the captives, and about anything you could imagine that would be anti-god, that was John Newton s life. And then one night, he awoke on his boat in the midst of the storm with water everywhere. The ship was sinking far from shore. Death was certain. It was then that the Prodigal cried out to God, and miraculously, his life was spared. True to his word, Newton sought after God and ultimately traded a well-to-do life in commerce for a pastor s life. His letters and hymns, which were in the From the Pastor s Desk thousands, had one major and consistent theme: grace. In the hymn Amazing Grace, he writes about grace-past ( I once was lost but now I m found ), grace-present ( Through many dangers...i have already come ), and grace-future ( When we ve been there 10,000 years ). It is all about grace! As we approach Easter and Resurrection Sunday in a few short weeks, I urge you to reconsider what grace means to you. The Cross, the Empty Tomb, the Ascension it is all grace! What is your response? True, you may not be the Prodigal that John Newton was, but your sin was so great that God had to die for you, and He did it because of His great love for you. Are you amazed? He made the One who did not know sin to be sin for us, so that in Him we might become the righteousness of God. 2 Cor. 5:21 CSB Pastor Larry Community Easter Egg Hunt, Sunday March 25 th at 4:00PM If you or someone you know has small children let them know that our annual Easter Egg Hunt is back! This fun day is open to the community and is a great way for us to celebrate our Savior and have basket loads of fun at the same time*. Families need to arrive in our gym 25-30 minutes early to register and be ready for the whistle. We always have a great time, share the Easter story and have more eggs with goodies than you can imagine. If you would like to help out, please consider the following: We are collecting hard (indiv. wrapped) Candy. Thanks! Please NO Chocolates, they melt :). Bring all donations by Sunday, March 18 th and leave them on the table in the Connections Area. Join us and help stuff the eggs with treats on Tuesday, March 20 th at 11:00 am. And on that Sunday, March 25 th, we need many volunteers to help hide the eggs outside at 2:30 pm or with the Registration team beginning at 3:00 pm. *In case of rain, the Hunt will be postponed to the following Saturday, March 31 st at our old time of 11:00 am. Please plan accordingly. If you can help, please let me know. THANKS! Bro. Come see our JAM check-in area. You will find a new parent resource and information center. We are excited to bring to the parents a monthly calendar that has different ways to pray for your child, the best and latest apps for your phone to aid in your child's spiritual growth, inspirational sayings, and scriptures for encouragement, all on our check-in wall. Also, located on a shelf are suggested books on parenting, different kinds of devotional books and Bibles for children that are age appropriate. Each month everything will be new, so please be sure to stop by, grab copies of the prayer calendar, suggested apps and take a look at the new books on the shelf. One app that I want to highlight is called Parent Cue. This app is designed to help every parent do something each week to help move their child toward a deeper faith and a better future. Here's what you do: 1. Download the app available for iphone and Android. 2. You put in your child's birthday and from there, you will see how many weeks you have left before your child graduates. 3. Parent Cue will give weekly cues. These cues will change with your child, staying relevant to their phase of life from babies to high school. 4. Will connect you with Bible stories and verses to talk to your child. 5. Parent Cue will cue you with words to say and things to do. 6. Parent Cue is broken down to: Morning Time--encouragements to start their day. Drive Time--meaningful talk time while in the car to eat, going to baseball practice, etc. Meal Time--conversation starters as you grab something from fast food, or around your table Bed Time--reminders for ways to end the day Their Time-- help for those moments that take you by surprise. 7. New Content appears every Sunday. The suggestions are very easy and quick. Please, please check it out. The deposits you make as parents on a daily basis, week after week over time are some of the most important things you can do for your child to grow them in their faith and into adults. HEY, even grandparents can do this with your grandchildren. It is AWESOME. Remember: the generation who wants these kids the most will win. WE want them, so please continue to pray for our JAM families and leaders. Blessings, Brenda Page 2 V OLU ME 1 1 I SSU E 3

Ever Wonder What Goes On In Our Kids B.L.A.S.T. B.uildingL.ivesA.roundS.oundT.ruth Heard about Barnabas? I bet you have! The kids in Blast took a look at the story of Barnabas since it was Valentine's Day recently. Our discussion led to "out of the box thinking," that brought such fun to the class. As you know, Barnabas was one of the leaders in the early church. His name was really Joseph. However because of his character and the "who" he was, the apostles gave him the name, Barnabas, which means Son of Encouragement. As the story goes, Barnabas sold his field in order to give to those in need and came alongside of Paul just to mention a few. Barnabas always looked for the best in people. We then discussed how we too, can be encouragers in our families, at school, even at the store and with the people we meet every day. Then it happened! One of the kids from Blast comes up with... "Ah, the Barny Bus. Barny Bus! We all need to get in the Barny Bus and go be encouragers!" Brilliant!!! LOVE IT!! Yes, we do. We all need to get on board the "Barny Bus." I then turn around and the next thing I see is now a picture of the "Barny Bus." Audrey has drawn the "Barny Bus"... with people inside! Brilliant! Here's a picture of the "Barny Bus." Definitely going to frame that one. These kids and youth are such a blessing! So...question: "Are you going to get on board the "Barny Bus" today and go be an encourager?" And by the way, our Blast kids got on the "Barny Bus" and were encouragers to the firemen at the Antioch Fire Station. We wrote thank you cards and gave each fireman a bag filled with goodies to eat. Encouragement in action. March 11 th Page 4 V OLU ME 1 1 I SSU E 3
