June 9th and 10th $3,358 Collections Words from Fr. Greg Mark 4:26-34 We continue our journey through ordinary time with more clues and tools to put in our knapsack for the journey. Last week, Jesus spoke of who are his mother and brother and sister. He did not mean in a blood family relationship, he meant who is of the same mind and heart, there is his home and home creates relationship. Jesus moves us from external conditions to internal conditions. Is our soul grounded in giving life to others through loving God with all or mind and or heart and our soul; and loving our neighbor as ourselves. An internal home finds expression in our attitude and disposition toward our neighbor and ourselves. Home is now imaged as a grand tree that many can find a home and rest and protection. Look at the grand, living oaks that dot Hwy. 90. Many have survived hurricanes and stand to remind us that being well rooted is a means to weather storms and give shade and hope in good times. Jesus life and teaching are planted in our hearts that root in our memories, our imagination, that we can tap into and find the breath of hope, mercy, forgiveness, courage, and strength to act. This presence of Jesus love, like a fire, grows through our remembering his love for us through his passion, death, and resurrection. The ritual of remembering give life to us to pass on to others. And like the grand tree that extends it branches, our hearts and souls extend with attention, awareness, mercy, gentleness instead of haste, judgement, isolation and disregard. We live in a very chaotic and confusing time as we move away from truth and integrity. The grand tree represents a home, an interior home, well rooted in faith, in a God of the living whose love through Jesus transforms us and enables us to be visible signs of God. A God who restores truth and integrity, who makes visible what is a deep-rooted relationship that can be healed over and over again through our willingness to forgive and be forgiven. Open your knapsack and fill it with faith. A faith that calls us to truth and openness and hope and life.

They visited the Ave Maria Grotto at St. Bernard College in Cullman, AL. At the Grotto, they saw the scenic shrine, guided by Father Lambert Gattman, OSV, who gave them some slides of the grotto to show at their altar society meeting and to other groups. Next, they traveled to Lookout Mountain, Ruby Falls and Rock City in Chattanooga, Tennessee. On the return trip, the ladies attended mass at St. Peter and Paul Church in Chattanooga, then, stopped to visit the capital and the burial place of Hank Williams. The trip was made in the church bus with Mr. Veen Lee as driver. (Daily Herald 5-5-1971)
