Cross View Newsletter A publication of the Early Childhood Center Growing loving followers of Jesus Christ through early care and education. November 2018 Thanksgiving and Praise Traditionally Thanksgiving in America began with the pilgrims thanking God. They were brought safely to land after traveling across the vast and furious ocean, they touched ground and fell on their knees and blessed the God of Heaven. At the first Thanksgiving, they probably ate squash, onions, corn, fish and venison cooked over an outdoor fire. They may have played games and probably sang songs and danced. They had a great feast and were joyful and thankful to God. There are many stories in the Bible of times that people expressed thanks to God and were joyful. A few of those people include Hannah, who was barren, and she prayed fervently for a child. The Lord gave her Samuel and she thanked God by giving Samuel to the Lord in service. David was a man of many trials, but no matter what season David found himself in, he always had the perspective of praising the Lord. In Nehemiah 12, it tells of Nehemiah and the people of the nation being joyful and giving all praise to God with cymbals, harps, lyres and singing. Their praise and music in Jerusalem could be heard across the nation. Some days and even months can be very difficult, and it can be hard to be thankful and joyful. However, as 1Thessalonians 5:18 states, we should give thanks in all circumstances. Take time with your child to discuss ways to be thankful and give praise to God. Happy Thanksgiving! November 2018 Verse for the Month- ECC Theme for the Month All I am Thankful for Each classroom will pick weekly themes that go with the monthly theme. Bible Theme for the Month I thank God Each classroom will pick weekly Bible stories that match the monthly theme. Proverbs 3:13 Happy is the person who finds wisdom and gains understanding. Devotional for the Month- Take this month to talk to your child/ children about what being thankful means. Chat about basic needs that are met, favorite foods, blessings God has given us and about stories in the Bible where people are celebrating and thanking God. In the Bible, you can start by reading the Psalms that David wrote or point out that Jesus thanked the Lord when he was here on earth ( Matthew 26-When Jesus took bread and gave thanks). Family Activities Pray daily together- It is great for young children to get the experience to pray and see their parents pray. Turn on some music and sing, dance and parade around together. Plan activities to enjoy for Thanksgiving Day, such as games and singing songs of praise. Pop some popcorn (or eat Puff corn) and talk about something you are thankful for each time somebody takes a bite of popcorn. Draw pictures of things that your family is thankful for. You can make a Thanksgiving journal.
