Rosie Weston- Hudson, Director of the Young People s Department In This Issue Boot Camp Phase II Fall 2016 Regional Meetings Louisiana Baptist YPD IDOL Competition IT S BOOT CAMP TIME!!! BOOT CAMP 2017: The Battle Is Personal! (Workshops, Regional Meetings, and Intense Sessions for Youth) Saturday, January 21, 2017 Peabody Magnet High School 2727 Jones Avenue Alexandria, LA 71302 Registration 8:00-9:00 a.m. Workshop and Summit 9:00 a.m. 1:00 p.m. Oh Yeahhhhh! It s Boot Camp Time! We are extremely excited about the upcoming Boot Camp. We have exciting workshops and activities. We are now implementing Phase Two of the Boot Camp Initiative. The objective of this advanced phase is to provide leaders with opportunities for developing an acute awareness for issues impacting the lives of our young people culturally, socially, and spiritually. It will go one step further by outlining steps to engage in how to deal with these issues. We will call these workshops Advanced Camps. Along with these Advanced Camps, we will also present two of the original camp workshops each year because we have new leaders who attend each year who may not have participated in the original workshops. Sis. Deanna Daggs State Youth President Leaders who have completed all four of the Camp Workshops are eligible to receive a Christian Education Certificate. If they complete 4 of the Advanced Camps, they will also receive an Advanced Certificate. Application Forms will be available at the Boot Camp and regional and state meetings. The forms should be returned by May 1, 2017 so that the names of those receiving the certificate can be placed in the program for the July 2017 Annual Session.

P a g e 2 This Year s State Convention in Baton Rouge, LA Was A Blessing! Rosie Weston-Hudson CONTACT INFO (318) 631-9137 Home (318) 572-0121 Cell (318) 636-1728 lastatebaptistypd@gm ail.com We give God all the glory! The Central Region did an excellent job in hosting this year s state convention held in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Sis. Linda Coleman, the Fourth District, and members of the Central Region spearheaded the youth events. We are also so very thankful to the Children and Youth Congress staff for their support. There were over 300 young people that registered with the young people s department along with over 125 youth leaders. MISSIONS!! God blessed us to minister to the Youth Oasis Baton Rouge Children s Shelter. The mission of this agency is to provide emergency shelter and necessary support services to run-away, abandoned, and homeless youth ages 10-25 within the Greater Baton Rouge area, enabling them to transition into responsible and successful citizens. It provides shelter, food, clothing, counseling, health care, on-site tutoring, and recreation. The mission project was a huge success and the recipients attended the Tuesday evening program. Sis. Linda Farinas, Mission Coordinator, along with Sis. Rosemary Jones, Local Coordinator, spearheaded an effort that brought in donations from churches all over the state. We are so thankful for the participation and support. THE ROSE PAGEANT We would like to recognize our State Sis. Tevon McKinley Wedding of the Roses Queen for this year, 2016 Rose Queen Sis. Tevon McKinley, who represented the Westside Baptist Association where Sis. Joyce Campbell is Director and Rev. Hampton is the Moderator.

The First P a g e 3 She is a member of the St. Joseph Baptist Church where Rev. Melvin Zeno is pastor. THE FIRST COLLEGE FAIR Our First College Fair was simply inspiring. We had colleges from North and South Louisiana who participated in the event. The college representatives were impressed with the large attendance from youth, leaders, and guests. We are most appreciative to Sis. Dawn Kight and her committee who gave leadership to this project. We are definitely excited about the prospect of continuing this event in the future. It gives our young people a head start on college and career planning. It also provides parents and leaders with accurate information concerning college entrance and the opportunities that are available at each university. We also hope that the College Fair will help us with establishing the relationships that are needed to establish our transition program for high school graduates.

P a g e 6 THE CIRCLE PROGRAM IS STILL VALUABLE! On Sunday, October 30, 2016, the Mission Department at the Paradise Baptist Church where my husband, Dr. Robert C. Hudson, celebrated its Mission Sunday just as it does every Fifth Sunday in the year. Paradise B. C. is dedicated to weekly ministries to the neighboring communities. As I was sitting, I sat an awe at the beauty of the collaboration between the Youth Mission Circles and the Senior Mission Auxiliaries as they presided over the various aspects of the program. I thought about my heroine, Sis. Nannie Helen Burroughs, one of the most creative and ground-breaking leaders in the National Baptist Convention. It took me back to the days of Sis. Genevieve Sims, Sis. Janice Landry, Rev. Henry Coleman, and all of the other Circle Leaders who provided my children who are now adults with a wonderful experience in the State Convention. They were also active in their local church mission circles and even served as State, National and Regional Officers. At Paradise during the past Mission Sunday, the Sunshine Band, Red Circles, and Crusaders came before the congregation and reported on their activities at the Nursing Homes, Rescue Mission, and their most recent project which involved putting on a carnival for the children at a shelter for homeless families and victims of domestic violence. They go out to do real mission work each fourth Saturday. It is my prayer that they will continue to maintain their eagerness for missions into their adult lives. The Circle Program is such a great ministry for young people. We will address its importance in the State Young People s Department in another venue in the coming year with God s blessing. Just wanted to share these photos with you: Thank You Paradise for Keeping the Circle Spirit Going!

P a g e 9 BOOT CAMP OFFERINGS: ADULT DIVISION (Adults will remain in class from 9:15 11:45 a.m.) The Boot Camp Program was initiated as a Four-Year Christian Development Program for Youth and their Adult Leaders. The program consisted of four strands identified as Camps with a different focus area of enrichment. We have completed the four-year cycle that was originally planned. The response to the initiative has been overwhelming. We are now in Phase II of the Boot Camp Program which will provide a more intense program designed to assist youth and leaders in addressing issues that are currently impacting the lives of young people in our local church. In Phase II of the Boot Camp Program, we will provide two of the original Camp Workshops at each Boot Camp because we have new leaders attending each year that can benefit from the basic foundation provided by the original Camp Workshop. We will add two or more additional workshops each year to address those issues that we must deal with in our local churches when working in youth ministry. Completion Certificates: Each person that has attended all four sessions is eligible to receive a Christian Education Certificate from the Young People s Department. One of the new workshops can replace Camp Delta if needed. An Advanced Certificate will be awarded when four (4) additional workshops are completed. The Boot Camp Four Year Training Program Course Documentation Card is included in this packet and should be turned in by May 1, 2017 for this year s recognition. The cards must be signed by your local Pastor. If you are unsure of your courses, we will provide another form at Boot Camp for requesting assistance. Persons who complete the program will receive the certificate and their names will be printed in the Annual State Convention Program in July 2017.
