Our Lady of the Assumption School 2141 Walnut Avenue, Carmichael, CA 95608 (916) 489-8958 May 3, 2016 With Hands to Serve and Hearts to Love NOTE FROM OUR PRINCIPAL I congratulate our second graders, who last Sunday received their First Communion. I spoke with them on Monday morning in class, and they shared with me in second grade terms that the experience brought them closer to God, made them feel more deeply rooted in our faith community, and made them feel more holy. There were also several cute comments about the taste of the hosts and wine. We are grateful to Mrs. Nichols and Mrs. Titherington for preparing our students, and to Fr. Eduino, Johann Rubia Miller, Joan Cotton, and Tracy Urban for all the work they put into the beautiful First Eucharist Mass on Sunday. We had a nice turnout for our Spring Gathering last Wednesday night. We said goodbye to families whose last child is graduating OLA, and we acknowledged our PTG Board for the great work they have done this year. I would like to acknowledge Candace Lucchetti for her tremendous work this school year as our PTG President, and I thank all the PTG officers for the many hours of service that they put into our school fundraisers and community-building events this year. We have the best PTG of any school! Ricci National Catholic Forensic League s National Speech and Debate Competition: We are excited to welcome the competition to the West Coast for the very first time! Beginning Friday, May 27 th, through Sunday, May 29th, thousands of competitors who have earned an invitation at localized tournaments, coaches, and family members will travel from throughout the United States to showcase their talents with the hopes of achieving recognition for themselves and their school as the best of the best. This also represents an opportunity for the Diocese of Sacramento to put its best foot forward. Our Most Reverend Bishop Jaime Soto and our beautiful Cathedral of the Blessed Sacrament have already graciously agreed to preside at or host the special Mass that will be celebrated on Saturday, May 28th at 8:30pm, following the first rounds of competition. Many more volunteers are needed for this event, which will take place at the Convention Center, the Hyatt and Sheraton hotels downtown, Sacramento State University, C.K. McClatchy High School, and concludes with an awards ceremony at the Memorial Auditorium. Help is needed with many tasks including giving directions, manning information desks, distribution and collection of materials, sorting tournament materials, and transporting items between sites. Training will be provided. If you or someone you know is willing to help, please contact Stephen Goldberg at (916) 712-0782 or gberg542@gmail.com, or complete and submit the volunteer form at www.ncflnationals.org so that we can work with you to find the best fit for you and your schedule.
