APEX UMC FAMILY 2018 ANNUAL REPORT
I love our church! This summer, I celebrated the privilege of serving in our Apex UMC Family for the past 10 years. It has been an amazing decade of experiencing the movement of God in our people, our community and our world through this church. When Paul writes his letter to the Philippians, he writes to a church he dearly loves. I find myself connecting deeply with Paul. I understand the invitation and challenge to focus on Jesus and to live with humility, integrity and unity in times marked by uncertainty and divisiveness. I understand the hope found in journeying with people through suffering and rejoicing. So, as we reflect together in this annual report, I echo Paul s words: I thank God every time I remember you, constantly praying with joy in every one of my prayers for all of you, because of your sharing in the gospel from the first day until now. (Philippians 1:3-4). TIM CATLETT LEAD PASTOR APEX UMC FAMILY ANGELO SANCHEZ CAMPUS PASTOR APEX UMC I give thanks for the joy and privilege it has been to serve this church as campus pastor over the past year. As you read this report, you will see lots of numbers! These numbers represent many things: dollars, hours, people, but most importantly, they represent an investment in God s kingdom work here in this community and around the world. These numbers represent our children, our neighbors and our communities that have been impacted by the Gospel of Jesus through the people of Apex United Methodist Church. And we are just getting started! Thank you for your financial investment in this church. Join me in continuing to invest our best in the mission and ministry of this church moving forward. God Bless!
APEX UMC FAMILY Inviting and equipping all to follow Jesus in transforming the world. I m so thankful for all the amazing ways God is moving throughout the Apex UMC Family. It is exciting to be part of a family that is actively worshipping, witnessing, growing and serving Christ in our community and throughout the world. I look forward to all that lies ahead for our church family! Eric Weller Administrative Council Chair Welcome All. Love All. Serve All. Just as Paul encouraged the Philippians to be humble, united in the gospel and to serve others, we at Apex UMC are at our best when we humble ourselves, united in Christ to serve those in our community both here and around the world. This year has brought many opportunities to serve and grow as a community and be effective witnesses of Christ. Welcoming all who feel disconnected to experience a compassionate God and loving community. It is a blessing to be a part of The Peak a vibrant, growing community of folks who love God, love each other and love our neighbors. We intentionally embrace ways to connect with each other and with our community. We want everyone to feel that love and to feel connected. Más que una iglesia una familia! We see God s presence and blessings in our Fiesta Cristiana church family. Even when we feel vulnerable and unloved we know He is with us, watching over us, guiding us and keeping us safe. God teaches us that we give of what we have in order to share the blessings of His good word. Love Well. Live Differently. 519 is about Loving Well and Living Differently. I am continually grateful as I watch and learn from our children, youth and adults how to better live out in my own life God s calling into this mission that we share. Many thanks to all those who give in so many different ways to make it possible. Loving Well and Living Differently is best done together. LIVES TRANSFORMED
I m looking forward to discovering other ways I can help the children and challenge you to do the same! Last year Ellen approached my Sunday School class, The Mayberry Class, about adopting the third grade Sunday School class the children and teachers. We loved this idea, for it was an intergenerational thing we could do. We pray for them every week and try to do a little something for the children and/or teachers every month. This opened the door for my involvement with the children at AUMC: finding ways to supplement what our class was doing, looking for things to donate to the children s program, making little things to thank all the Sunday School teachers, sharing ideas with Ellen, helping with VBS preparation workshops, and volunteering to count money at VBS. These are behind the scenes things but through them I m helping to support the children and I ve met other church members! I m looking forward to discovering other ways I can help the children and challenge you to do the same! Lynn Jones APEX UMC The Peak became our home when we first stepped through the doors, but even more so when we met the Peak Youth. Unofficially adopting 20 or so kids into your heart would make any place feel like home! From our friendship with Amanda to the outpouring of love and memes from the youth, The Peak has not only brightened our lives but brought us closer to God. We have never found a place of faith that so wholly represents who we are and what we want to do with our lives. The Peak connects us to each other in both heart and spirit. We love The Peak Church! Jeff and Brittany Foster THE PEAK We have never found a place of faith that so wholly represents who we are and what we want to do with our lives.
The Lord transformed my life when he brought me to Fiesta Cristiana. The Lord transformed my life when he brought me to Fiesta Cristiana. I did not know everything that would happen in the course of this time; by studying the word it has helped give a different meaning to my life. Although I make mistakes, I immediately realize them and I ask the Lord to help me correct them. Something that has cost me part of my daily Christian walk has been to tithe. I am aware that it is not easy, but I am increasingly convinced that doing so is a blessing for me and my family. A brother in the church said, When he received his payment, the first thing he did was to separate his tithe and the rest he used as he needed it. I thank God for giving me so many people and resources that have taught me to know more of his Word and have a closer relationship with him. Georgina García Ávila FIESTA CRISTIANA For many students in Apex, summer means uncertainty about regular meals and a decrease in engaging academic activities. Within the last year we learned that of the 10 million federal dollars designated to summer child nutrition in Wake County only $500,000 was spent. How could our Feed the Kids ministry help? Meanwhile, a weekly literacy program for elementary students on the Apex campus was hoping to expand into the summer. Last spring, SMART - Summer Meal and Reading Time - was born. Our goal was to be an approved site for weekly meals (within federal regulations) while creating a literacy component for children by the summer. Thanks to amazing collaboration, in the first week nearly 50 children showed up for SMART, all materials had been donated and volunteer spots for meal service and reading time were completely full. I am excited to think of the change a program like SMART could have on the life trajectory of local children simply by feeding them, creating caring relationships and increasing exposure to print and books. Caroline Cockman 519 I am excited to think of the change a program like SMART could have on the life trajectory of local children.
