ANOINTING OF THE SICK Sunday, May 17 th 12:00 Noon Mass St. Charles Parish with the assistance of our Worship Commission are planning a Mass of Anointing on Sunday, May 17 th at the 12:00 Noon Mass. Who do we anoint in this Sacrament? The anointing of the sick is used in three types of situations: 1) For people who are going in for surgery. 2) For people who are suffering from chronic pain or illness. 3) The person who is near death or the person who is about to die at any moment. As we have in the past, we ask that anyone who wishes to attend this celebration call the Parish Office (440)884-3030. There s a Donut Social after the 9:00 and 10:30am Masses this Sunday, April 26, in the Lower Parish Hall. Parish Council invites you to attend. Next Sunday, May 3, at the 10:30am Mass, we will welcome as celebrant and homilist Fr Gary Chmura, a native of St John Cantius Church in the Tremont area of Cleveland, currently pastor of Our Lady of Peace and St Adalbert Parishes on Cleveland s East Side. Next week s Mass will be the kick-off for Polish Constitution Day here in Parma s Polish Village. There will be a Pancake Breakfast in the Lower Parish Hall next Sunday, May 3, after the 7:30, 9:00, and 10:30am Masses. Three months from now Carnival 2015 will be a memory. But in the meantime, there will be lots of Carnival news. The Carnival Raffle Car (2015 Ford Escape SUV) arrived on property at the end of March. Carnival Raffle tickets will be in the mail later next month. The Carnival 2015 proceeds will go toward two big projects: the replacement of the school windows in the 1927 (junior high) school building and repair and upgrading of the ceiling/lighting in the 1949 Corrigan Gym. We should be able to handle two big projects thanks to a $40,000 grant we received from the diocesan Rooted in Faith capital campaign. Carnival 2015 dates? Wednesday July 8 to Sunday July 12. Many thanks to all who helped with our Lenten Sox in the Box collection. Girl Scout Cadet Troop 70443, along with Frontline Services, coordinated the effort. The Grand Total exceeded TEN THOUSAND pairs of sox! The homeless and the needy join me in giving a Great Big Tip of the St Charles Appreciation Hat to all those who made sox in the box such a successful Lenten Project. Annually every parish in our Diocese hosts a missionary. On that weekend, the missionary shares with us the story of his/her work and asks us for our financial and spiritual support. Usually we are told who will visit the parish. This year, however, I have asked that The Evangelizing Sisters of Mary be assigned to St Charles. That is the order of African nuns we helped establish in Cleveland last summer. St Charles parishioners generously provided a Sisters Shower for the renovation of a former East Side Rectory into St Bakhita Convent. That Convent is now full and the St Charles committee members who handled last year s project have remained in contact with the Sisters. From everything I hear, the Sisters are doing a bang-up job: they do great work at the Detention Center near the Convent, they have brought many new families to their parish, and they are a welcome force for the Catholic Faith in their neighborhood. The Sisters will visit St Charles on the weekend of August 8/9. They will tell us about their work, thank us for our help last year, and ask us for our support to help them do Christlike things in the years ahead. And how s this for advance planning? Father Joe Koopman, popular associate pastor at St Charles 2001-2005--now a moral theology professor at Cleveland St Mary Seminary--will conduct our 2016 Lenten Parish Retreat. Lots more about that as we get closer to Lent 2016. Make sure you clip-and-keep the May 2015 Calendar found in this weekend s bulletin.

This book will be the Who, What, Where, When, Why and How of our Congregation. The book is being provided at no cost to our Church, including the mailing to each family, and again is being subsidized by local businesses that advertise in it. If you own or manage a business and would like to find out about advertising in our book, please call the Parish Office (440)884-3030. Recent survey results by Guide Book Publishing show that 92.1% of families would rather patronize a Guide Book & Directory advertiser over a non-advertiser.
