L: And now we, too, join in this worldwide chorus of those who call upon the name of the Lord. P: On this World Communion Sunday, we remember that the Scriptures are fulfilled as People will come from east and west, and from north and south, and sit at the table in the kingdom of God. Interfaith Housing Authority IHA has changed the landscape of affordable housing through a variety of programs for low to moderate income residents in Maryland and south-central Pennsylvania. Programs include home ownership, rental homes and supportive services. The Housing Matters program provides affordable housing opportunities, financial education, and housing counseling services for the working poor, seniors on fixed incomes, and individuals or families with disadvantages and/or disabilities, to give them the knowledge and resources they need to achieve economic stability and a higher quality of life. 5
Food Bank Suggestions for October There is a critical need for the following items to replenish the shelves at the food bank: Canned fruit, peas, pasta, tuna, cereal, boxed potatoes, and toilet paper. Other suggested items for October are: Canned pie filling, sweet potatoes, green beans, canned soup, applesauce, corn, stuffing mix & canned cranberry sauce. In addition to food items disposable diapers and wipes along with laundry supplies are always need by GVCS. As well as food donations, cash donations are also accepted by the Glade Valley Community Services at P. O. Box 655, Walkersville, MD Thanks for support this project! The GYG will have their Welcome Back party tonight at 5:30 p.m. Please contact Christy Yingling to let her know if your youth plans to attend. The Worship Committee will meet Monday, October 3, 2016, at 7:30 p.m. in the Fireside Room. The Glade Guild will be selling food at the Zimmerman Estate Sale on October 15th. Fruit Pies, brownies, cookies and other baked items and monetary donations for supplies are needed. Please contact Cathy Widder if you are able to donate baked items or able to help the day of the sale. The Mission and Social Action Committee will meet next Sunday, October 9, 2016, for their October meeting at 11:30 a.m. in the Fireside Room. Glade UCC is walking Out of the Darkness. Our church will be joining the effort to save lives and bring hope to those affect by suicide. Becky Hommer will be leading the team on October 8th. Contact her for more information. The American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP) is dedicated to saving lives and bringing hope to those affected by suicide. AFSP creates a culture that s smart about mental health through education and community programs, develops suicide prevention through research and advocacy, and provides support for those affected by suicide. 6
