Page 2 With Burning Hearts We Proclaim the Good News July 23, 2017 PRAYER FOR PRIESTS Please pray for the following priests this week: Saint John Eudes Parish Mission Appeal Since the first phone call to Saint John Eudes Parish to speak to Father Lawrence to set a date for the parish mission appeal, we truly felt a heart warm welcome. Sister Nilce Freitas and I, Sister Elvira Rios, members of the Sisters of the Company of Mary, Our Lady, wanted to share our mission experiences with Saint John Eudes parish family; to share especially the work that our Sisters are doing in the favelas (barrios) with families and pre-school children who live alongside the streams on the outskirts of Bela Horizonte. We could not have chosen a more wonderful parish. We met the friendly priests, as they welcomed us into their home: Fr. Lawrence, Fr. Gerard, Fr. Carlos, and the newly ordained, Fr. Eleuterio. Our work on Sunday was mostly with Fr. Lawrence and Fr. Carlos who made us feel as long-time friends and co-workers. (We had just met the day before!) The parishioners greeted us with sincere smiles and with such a warm welcome that we felt right at home throughout our stay at Saint John Eudes for the mission appeal. July 23 Rev. Webert Merilan, O.M.I., Santa Rosa de Lima Catholic Church, San Fernando The ministries, and the spirit with which this parish fulfills these ministries and works of the Church is astonishing. Even though it is summer, and many parishioners are on vacation, we saw several wonderful works taking place in the parish: we saw a spirit of unity that permeates the liturgical celebrations; noticing the many nationalities represented, with different talents, and different age levels coming together, we summed it up in the words of Jesus: Where two or more are gathered in my name, there am I in their midst. We are extremely grateful for the opportunity to have known the people, the priests, the sharing that takes place in this parish. We are grateful for the generous response of the people in helping our brothers and sisters in our mission in Bela Horizonte, at Centro San Jose, in the community of Sao Bernardo, to become fully alive members of the Body of Christ. They will be told of the love and concern that all of you have shown through your generosity toward them. Also, the children and the families of Centro San Jose will be united with you, because they will be praying for all of you, as we know that you too, will have them in your prayers. Again, Thank You, and may God continue to bless you. Page 5 With Burning Hearts We Proclaim the Good July 23, 2017 ST. PAULA MONTAL SCHOOL - INDIA The Sisters of the Pious Schools are working hard to open a school in India based on the vision of St. Paula Montal to save families, teaching children the love of God. This effort reflects their educational mission: joy in teaching, fostering the dignity of each person, and building family life. While the school is currently under construction, funding is desperately needed to complete the work and to supply the classrooms with the necessary teaching materials, athletic equipment, health supplies, technology, library books, etc. Our former school principal, Sr. Rosemary Bochniarz, Sch. P., has been extensively involved with the planning and construction of the school. She will be at all Masses this weekend providing information about how you can help spread the message of Christ on the Indian Subcontinent. Please help the Sisters educate the children of India with ideals and principles that promote human dignity and love within the family. Moreover, their work is vital to assure the children they teach will grow into understanding and caring adults that will apply their education toward creating a better and more loving world and society. Please help them in this important mission. CHILDREN S MINISTRY Religious Education registration forms are NOW available in the parish office or on the parish website!!! Page 8 With Burning Hearts We Proclaim the Good News July 23, 2017 ADULT FORMATION CLASSES MORE ADULT FORMATION CLASSES Delve into the central mystery of our faith by embarking on an in-depth study of this holy Sacrament in Bishop Barron s study program, Eucharist: Sacred Meal, Sacrifice, Real Presence. Bishop Barron clearly explains that the Eucharist is not a symbol, but is truly the body, blood, soul, and divinity of Jesus Christ. This intimate gift from the Lord brings us into greater unity with the Trinity and offers us a foretaste of heaven. SDWC St. John Eudes Separated, Divorced, and Widowed Catholic Support Group will meet on Friday, July 28, at 8:00 p.m. in Room C of Grill Hall. St. Pope John Paul II called the Church to a new evangelization a reawakening of the Church s missionary spirit. Pope Francis echoes this call to each Catholic to participate in the mission of the Church. He wants us to actively help spread the Faith by living a holy life and by sharing our faith at work, in our families, and among friends. Coming on August 18th and 19th to our parish will be a program, the Called & Gifted Workshop, that teaches about the role of lay Catholics in the Church s mission to the world and about the gifts that each of us has been given in order to fulfill that mission. Everyone is invited to participate. To learn more, call Gemma Kim Armijo at 818-307-5294 or gemma.kim-armijo@medpro.com For more info., please call Kathy at (818) 349-9335
