SEEK IT OUT Bible Story Passage: Week 3 I Samuel 25:2-35 WRITE IT OUT & TALK IT OUT Any kids who complete these questions will earn 5 coins today! Complete the devotions at the back of this booklet and earn 10 coins! 1. Read I Samuel 25:2. Who were Nabal and Abigail? 2. Read I Samuel 25: 4-8. How had David helped Nabal? 3. Read I Samuel 25: 9-11. Was Nabal a peacemaker or a bully? 4. Read I Samuel 25: 12-13 and I Samuel 25: 21-22. How did David respond to Nabal? 5. Read 1 Samuel 25: 14-18 and I Samuel 25: 23-27. How was Abigail a peacemaker? 6. Read 1 Samuel 25:32-33. Why did David not take revenge on Nabal? Why is it so important to stand up for the truth and not be afraid? 4
DAY 1 READ SAMUEL 25:1-35 Find a quiet spot to read 1 Samuel 25:1-35 out loud, or listen to it using the Bible App. Now think about the three main characters David, Nabal, and Abigail. Which one would YOU say was a peacemaker? Yep. Abigail made SURE that this story would have a peaceful ending. She stepped in to keep the peace when Nabal was rude and mean to David s men. She took the blame for what Nabal had done, and she said she was sorry even though she hadn t done anything wrong. Highlight verses 32 and 33. Abigail s peacemaking saved the lives of Nabal s men and kept David from doing something he would regret later. Abigail proved she cared more about others by being part of the solution. DAY 2 When we think about God s character, we know that He is the perfect peacemaker. When Adam and Eve sinned in the Garden of Eden, our relationship with God was broken. But God sent His son, Jesus, as the solution to our broken relationship so that we could live in peace with Him again. SO, WHEN WE'RE PEACEMAKERS, WE'RE LIVING LIKE JESUS. If you can, get outside and talk to God and tell Him how glad you are that He provided a solution to our broken relationship with Him. Ask Him to help you prove you care more about others by being part of the solution, too. HEAR FROM GOD PRAY TO GOD 5
DAY 3 DAY 4 When conflicts happen in your relationships, you have two choices: you can be part of the problem or part of the solution. Talk to a trusted adult today about what they think it means to be a peacemaker. Were there times in their past when they were part of a peaceful solution either for themselves or between other people? Were there times when someone else was a peacemaker for them? Then, talk about Abigail s choices in 1 Samuel 25. What do you think were the three main ingredients for Abigail s Solution for Peace? For example, she showed humility and wisdom. INGREDIENTS: WHAT ARE WAYS YOU CAN BE A PEACEMAKER? Look at what Jesus said about making peace: Blessed are those who make peace. They will be called children of God. Matthew 5:9, NIrV God loves it when we choose a peaceful solution! Think of some practical ways you can prove you care more about others by making peace. A few ideas are included below to get you started. See if you can think of five more. Email them to yourself to look back at later. Send them to a friend as well to share what you re learning! Try to listen more than you talk when working out a problem with someone. Always be the first person to say I m sorry. After you ve made peace with someone, write them a note or send them a text message to let them know you care about them. TALK WITH GOD LIVE FOR GOD 6
