April 26, 2015 Page 3-565 Our Lady Queen of Peace Church, Hainesport, New Jersey A Message from the Padre Good Shepherd Sunday E very year during the Fourth Sunday after Easter, we celebrate "Good Shepherd Sunday, and the Church also reserves this day as World day of prayer for vocations to the priesthood or religious life. M y dear friends, vocations to the priesthood and religious life are among the most important gifts that God has given to the Church. But despite the growing Catholic population, priestly ordinations have been dropping every year and at the same time the average age of priests is increasing and many are close to retirement. Yes, it is true that the calling to priestly vocation or religious life cannot be forced on anybody. Only God can appoint shepherds. But we all can help people respond to vocations. We can encourage our children to think about the possibility of the priesthood. We can also offer our appreciation to those who are already priests and thus perhaps inspire others to follow in their footsteps. Above all, we can pray publicly and privately, for an increase in vocations to the priesthood and religious life. Y es, each one of us has a responsibility and a role to play in seeing that the Church will continue to have good shepherds who can lead, guide and serve the needs of God s people. As we continue our Easter journey, may we pray to the Lord of the Harvest to send more laborers into His vineyard and may we continue to plant the seed in the hearts of our children - the voice of the Good Shepherd and encourage them to discover the beauty of the Divine call. The program is free of charge for parishioners. You can enroll today by visiting our website at www.olqponline.org and click on the link to Parish Giving. Lord God, Almighty Father, creator of mankind and author of peace, as we are ever mindful of the cost paid for the liberty we possess, we ask you to bless the members of our armed forces. Give them courage, hope and strength. May they ever experience your firm support, gentle love and compassionate healing. Be their power and protector, leading them from darkness to light. To you be all glory, honor and praise, now and forever. Amen Please pray for the men and women now serving in the military, especially the loved ones of our parishioners: Scott Shaffer Kyle Shaffer Joel A. DeLuca Daryl and Adam Caufield Michael Blaser Kenneth Fama Chris and Amy Price Megan Cobb PRAYERS FOR OUR MILITARY FAMILY The safety and success of our military serving at home and abroad defending our country should be prayed for daily. All should be recognized for their outstanding commitment to risk their lives so we can remain free. Members of our parish family are requested to provide the names of their loved ones so they can be remembered in our prayers. April 26, 2015 Fourth Sunday of Easter Page 4-565 Fourth Sunday of Easter John 10: 11-18 Today we again hear the voice of Saint Peter in the reading from the Acts of the Apostles. In this memorable passage he tells us that there is no name other than that of Jesus Christ by which we are to be saved. In the Gospel, Jesus tells us of the depth of his love for us, that he chooses to lay down his life for us. As we listen today to God s holy word, let us be grateful that we have such a Good Shepherd to care for us and save us. April 26, 2015 Fourth Sunday of Easter Page 6-565 WORD OF LIFE April 2015 The pro-life position is often misunderstood as neither showing compassion to mothers nor caring about the children after they are born. This is unfortunate...those who see a lack of compassion from pro-lifers may not be aware of the many resources and compassionate care available to women facing unplanned pregnancies [Crisis pregnancy] centers exist to provide warm and caring environments for mothers and families who find themselves with an unexpected pregnancy. ~ Life Issues Forum: Racing Toward a Culture of Life (www.bit.ly/racingtoward) Mary Prentis, USCCB Secretariat of Pro-Life Activities DIOCESE OF TRENTON ORDINATION MASS Daniel McKee Price As part of his vocation journey, Daniel McKee Price served at Our Lady Queen of Peace.
