Dear Friends, Lyda and I will be transferring to the Diocese of Fort Worth in September. There are many variables that have gone into making this decision, but none are due to any unhappiness here at St Rose or the Archdiocese of Los Angeles. Since my ordination to the Permanent Diaconate in July 2011, it has been my great joy and pleasure to serve this parish community. I am deeply appreciative of Fr Shea, the Priests, the Deacons, the parish staff, and you the parishioners for your support of my ministry here over the past 7 years. My last official Mass and preaching will be at the 5 PM Vigil Mass on September 1 st. If you can make it, I would personally like to greet you and say my farewells in the vestibule after Mass. My daughter and son-in-law live here in Simi Valley, so we will be returning to visit periodically and know that I will see you again. Leaving is always an emotional event, so I ask for your prayers for our success in continuing to serve Our Lord and his Church. May God continue to bless you, Deacon Ed Posvar elposvar@aol.com Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion Needed!! Have you ever considered becoming an Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion? We are Extraordinary only because we are not the Ordinary Ministers of Holy Communion (the Priests and Deacons). Pope Paul VI stated that the Mass is the most perfect form of prayer and there is no greater way for a layperson to experience it than through the privilege of distributing our Lord to our fellow Catholics. Contrary to what some may think this is not a lifelong commitment. There is no ordination, no contract, nor will you be expected to serve at a mass that you don t normally attend. You can serve at the Mass that you normally attend and will be scheduled for that Mass 1-2 months at a time. We also have periodic volunteer call outs for Holy Days, First Communions and special events. If you are interested in this enriching and rewarding ministry please complete the New Minister Survey on the parish website that can be found here: https://strosesv.com/eucharistic-ministers. You will find the Survey at the bottom left of the page. Please prayerfully consider joining today! Blue Mass Sunday, September 9, 2018 9:00 AM

Review your family phone numbers As a family, you should have a list of family emergency phone numbers that your children know from an early age. Review these numbers together a few times a year. Children should know their parents cell and work phone numbers, and they should know who to call and how in an emergency. Include the numbers for the police, the fire department, and stress the importance of knowing when and how to contact 911. For little children who cannot memorize all that yet, try writing the parents phone numbers inside their shoes. Don t miss the Life, Justice & Peace Regional Meeting!

LIGHTHOUSE CATHOLIC MEDIA CDs in the church by the gift shop (Min. suggested donation: $3.00 ea.) Cash or check accepted. Religionless Spirituality: Why We Need the Church Renowned Scripture scholar and author, Dr. Tim Gray, provides a fascinating explanation of the importance of the visible Church and the centrality of God on Earth. He offers incredible insights that make clear the role of the Church as an essential part of God s plan for salvation, which are sure to help those who have left her, or who mistakenly claim to be spiritual, but not religious. A Catholic Bible and a Catechism of the Catholic Church are a must for every Catholic home! (Available in our gift shop.) God gives us His word in the Bible, and the Magisterial Teachings of the Catholic Church provide us with direction to follow it. Another way to be a well-informed and a vibrant Catholic is to visit the USCCB website listed below where you will find a wealth of practical information. USCCB website: www.usccb.org/beliefs-and-teachings/how-we-teach/new-evangelization/toolkit/index.cfm CATHOLIC FAITH FACTS is BACK!!! Do you ever wonder why we believe the things we believe in as Catholics? Are you tired of being asked questions about your Catholic faith from loved ones, friends or co-workers - and NOT being able to give an answer? If this sounds like you please consider joining the Catholic Faith Facts Apologetics Course here at St. Rose of Lima. You will learn how to give Biblical answers for your faith as well as the corresponding references from the Catechism. You will gain a clearer understanding about subjects like the Mass, defending Marian doctrines, the Eucharist, Purgatory, Confession, statues and images, praying to the saints, and many more. Beginning on Wednesday, Sept. 12, and every other Wednesday after that - we will meet in Room 9 of the school. Bring a family member or a friend with you who may have questions about a particular topic we are discussing. As the Body of Christ, our Catholic faith is a family journey so don t try to walk it alone and uninformed!
