2 THE APPRENTICESHIP COLLEGE EDUCATION PROGRAM TO TRAIN ANI) EDUCATE THE YOUNG PREACHER IN THE LOCAL CHURCH FROM THE SALT LAKE BAPTIST COLLEGE 3769 West 4700 South Salt Lake City, Utah Never again will you have to send off your preacher-boys to Bible college to have him trained to be a pastor by a professor who has never pastored a church before. The Apprenticeship Program is what every preacher needs to train and produce his own preacher-boys. WHAT IT IS NOT: It is not a home Bible study course that will cost thousands of dollars. WHAT IT IS: It is a course that you guide, and we give them college credit for it. WHAT YOU GET: l. A Bible College program that is under the direction of the Pastor. 2. The same degree as if he were a campus student for 4 years. 3. The degree he eams is accredited. 4. Your confidence that he is not polluted by false professors and false brethren. 5. You will know that he has not been turned against you. 6. He can get a college ring. 7. Yours and his friendship will be an everlasting friendship. HOW IT WORKS: Read the following pages for full instructions and details. 1

3 WHAT ARE THE REQUIREMENTS? Note: The Pastor has the final say in all aspects of this program; such as materials being approved, withdrawal of student, activity reports, etc. 1. Preach a minimum of 50 sermons. 2. Assist in 2 weddings perform 1 solo. 3. Assist in 2 funerals - perform 1 solo. 4. Lead congregational singing 36 times - (once a month). 5. Visit for Church minimum of 2 hours per week. 6. Must be a tither and faith promise giver. 7. Must be morally clean- no dope, no alcohol, no tobacco. 8. Must be the husband of one wife. 9. Must start a Sunday school from scratch, and teach it for one year. 10. Must have served as Church Janitor for one year. 11. Must be loyal to the Pastor for the duration of the program, (3 years); if the pastor leaves, we will consider continuing the program with a recommendation from both the previous and current pastors. 12. Must submit a detailed report of progress and duties, signed and concurred by the Pastor, each quarter. 13. Pastor will be asked to submit an annual report on the progress of the student. 14. Submit 15,000 word thesis on one of the following topics: Bible Doctrines Old Testament Survey New Testament Survey Position on the Baptist Church Position on the King James Version Other: Pending Pastor and Dean s approval 2

4 COST The Apprenticeship program is offered free of charge to those Pastors who, for the duration of the program, will support the Salt Lake Baptist College with a minimum of $25.00 per month for as long as the student is in the program. We will only charge the students for the materials used, such as books. CLASS RING The Salt Lake Baptist College has beautifully designed a class ring. Those students enrolled in the Apprenticeship program can order their rings when 1/2 of the course is completed, if they are still enrolled in the program. GRADUATION Graduation for the Apprenticeship Program Students will be held with the regular graduation of the resident students of the Salt Lake Baptist College. lt will be required that the Apprenticeship Program student walks the aisle in Cap and Gown. in order to receive their degree. GETTING STARTED - WHAT TO DO? 1. Pastor / Proctor have an initial meeting with Apprentice to set up program. A. Fill out College Application. B. Go over College requirements. 2. Explain the Assignments. Example of First Year FIRST QUARTER A. Materials needed: Ministry Training Manual by Dr. Jerry Locke. Book report (min. 10 pages) Mail to College. B. Participate in Church's Visitation Program (Min. 2 hrs. weekly) C. Sermon. Write a 4 page sermon with outline. D. Visitation Program Participate in the Church's Visitation Program (min. 2 hrs. weekly) SECOND QUARTER A. Materials Needed: 'Salvation to Service', 'A Letter To New Converts', 'Questions Concerning Baptism' by Dr. James Wilkins. Read and complete all worksheets accordingly Send report to College. B. Visitation Program. Participate in Church s Visitation program (Min. 2 hrs. weekly) C. Sermon. Write a 4 page sermon with outline. D. 'Milk of the Word" by Dr. James Wilkins. Learn to use lesson plans daily and grade weekly accordingly Send a photocopy of the completed worksheets to College. E. Read and have the Pastor attest to the reading of The Gospel and The Book of Acts. F. We encourage you to acquire your books needed for your third year degree. Obtain list of books from College. THIRD QUARTER A. Ma terial Needed : Basic Mission of the Church' by Dr. James Wilkins. Do the work on a daily basis with proper grades assigned. B. Visitation Program. Participate in your local Church Visitation program tor an average of 1.5 hours weekly. This will need to be attested by the Pastor. C. Discipleship Program. Participate in the Churches discipleship program by dlscipling (A New Convert) through the 'Milk of the Word' book by Dr. James Wilkins, one (1) hour weekly. Assign proper grades to converts book. D. Sermon. Original Sermon, written or typed and mailed to the College - 4 pages minimum E. Read the Bible Romans through Revelation FOURTH QUARTER A. Materials Needed: 'Designed to Win' by Dr. James Wilkins and 'Designed to Win' tape series by Dr. James Wilkins. B. Read and master the Soul winning book. Send report to College and master the principles well enough to train others. C. Visitation Program. Participate in visitation program (Mn. 2 hrs. weekly). D. Discipleship Program. Participate in Discipleship Program by discipling a new convert (Mn. 1 hr. weekly). E. Sermon - Original sermon, written or typed and mailed to the College (Mn. 4 pages) 3. Review the list of Practical Requirements. 4. Look over the Pastor's Progress Form with the student. 5. Explain cost to the student, and that the Pastor has the final say in all aspects of the Program. 6. Pray with Student. asking the Lord to help him fulfill all responsibilities in a timely and Christian manner. 7. Send all paperwork, along with support, to the College, and we will begin the APPRENTICESHIP PROGRAM. 3

5 Prescribed Curriculum First Year FIRST QUARTER A. Materials Needed: "Ministry Training Manual, by Dr. Jerry Locke Book report (min. 10 pages) Mail to the College. B. Participate in Church Visitation Program (min. 2 hours weekly) C. Sermon. Write a 4 page sermon with outline D. Read the New Testament and have the Pastor attest to the reading. SECOND QUARTER A. Materials Needed: "Salvation to Service," "A Letter to New Covenants, Questions Concerning Baptism by Dr. James Wilkins. Read and complete all worksheets accordingly. Send report to the College. B. Visitation Program. Participation in Church Visitation Program (Min. 2 hours weekly). C. Sermon. Write a 4 page sermon with outline. D. "Milk of the Word," by Dr. James Wilkins. Learn to use lesson plans daily and grade weekly accordingly. Send a photocopy of the completed worksheets to the College. E. Read the Old Testament - Genesis to Deuteronomy - Have the Pastor attest to the reading. F. We encourage you to acquire your books needed for your third year degree. Visitation Program. Participate in your local Church Visitation Program for an average of l.5 hours weekly. This will need to be attested to by the Pastor. C. Discipleship Program. Participate in the Church discipleship program by discipling a new convert through the "Milk of the Word," book by Dr. James Wilkins, one hour weekly. Assign proper grades to convert s book. D. Sermon. Original sermon, typed and mailed to the College - 4 pages min. E. Read the Old Testament - Joshua to Job - have the Pastor attest to the reading. FOURTH QUARTER A. Materials Needed: "Designed to Win, by Dr. James Wilkins and "Designed to Win" tape series by Dr. James Wilkins. B. Read and master the Soul winning book. Send report to the College and master the principles well enough to train others. C. Visitation Program. Participate in visitation program (min. 2 hours weekly). D. Discipleship Program. Participate in Discipleship Program by discipling a new convert. (Min. l hour weekly). E. Sermon. Original sermon, typed and mailed to the College (min. 4 pages). F. Read the Old Testament- Psalms to Malachi - Have Pastor attest to the reading of it. 4

Participate in your local Church Visitation program for a minimum of 2 hours weekly. C. Participate in your Church Discipleship program for new converts for a minimum of l hour weekly. D. Complete an original sermon, typed mail it to the College (4 page minimum.) SECOND QUARTER A. Material Needed: "Prayer: Asking and Receiving," by Dr. John R. Rice. B. Participate in your local Church Visitation program for a minimum of 2 hours weekly. C. Participate in your Church Discipleship program for new converts for a minimum of l hour weekly. D. Complete an original sermon, typed or hand written and mail it to the College, (4 pages minimum) E. Read the Bible Genesis to Esther - Have Pastor attest to required reading. THIRD QUARTER A. Material Needed: "How to Win Friends and Influence People" by Dale Carnegie, "Physco- Cybemetics" by Maxwell Maltz complete a book report (min. l0 pages) mail to the College. B. Participate in your local Church Visitation program for a minimum of 2 hours weekly. C. Participate in your Church Discipleship program for new converts for a minimum of 1 hour weekly. D. Complete an original sermon typed or hand written mail it to the College (4 pages min. ). FOURTH QUARTER A. Material Needed: Read and complete a 5 page report on the following Biographies: D.L. Moody, A. Judson, Hudson Taylor and William Carey B. Participate in your local Church Visitation program fora minimum of 2 hours weekly C. Participate in your Church Discipleship program for new converts for a minimum of l hour weekly. D. Complete an original sermon, typed or hand written - mail to the College (4 page min.). 5

Christian Read and Complete a ten (10) page report Mail to College. B. Participate in Visitation program as a soul-winner trainer - 2 hours minimum C. Participate in Discipleship program as Director or Squad Leader while discipling a new convert. 1 hour min. D. Complete and mail to College two (2) complete sermons written or typed 4 page min. THIRD QUARTER A. Material Needed: Baptist Church History Volume ll", by Dr. John T. Christian Read and Complete a ten (10) page report-mail to College B. Participate in Visitation program as a soul winner trainer 2 hours minimum C. Participate in Discipleship program as Director or Squad Leader while discipling a new convert. 1 hour min. D. Complete and mail to College two (2) complete sermons written or typed - 4 page min. E. Read the Bible - Job through Malachi: Have Pastor attest to required reading. FOURTH QUARTER A. Material Needed; Three Secrets of the Holy Spirit", by James H. McConkey Read and Complete a five (5) page report - Mail to College. B. Participate in Visitation program as a soul-winner trainer - 2 hours minimum. C. Participate in Discipleship program as Director or Squad Leader while discipling a new convert. 1 hour min. D. Complete and mail to College two (2) complete sermons written or typed - 4 page min. E. Thesis Complete a 10,000 word thesis on any Bible subject, Character, Book or Doctrine F. D. Complete and mail to the College 2 complete sermons written or typed 4 pages min. SECOND QUARTER A. Material Needed: "Four Tremendous Truths" by Dr. James Wilkins, read and complete a report (min. 8 page) and mail it to the College. B. Participate in Church Visitation program as a soul-winner trainer - 2 hours min. weekly. C. Participate in Discipleship program as a Director or Squad Leader while discipling a new convert. 1 hour min. weekly. D. Complete and mail to the College 2 complete sermons written or typed - 4 pages min. E. Complete a 15,000 word Thesis on Missions or take a Mission trip (Pastor will need to attest) and write a 10,000 word Thesis on Mission work. ** NOTE: All work, including Thesis must be completed and sent to the College no later than April 1 st for students to receive their Bachelor in Theology. THIRD QUARTER A. Material Needed: "Practical Counseling Principles for Christians" by Dr. Jeff Owens, complete the workbook and mail it to the College. B. Participate in Visitation program as a soul-winner trainer 2 hours min. weekly. C. Participate in Discipleship program as Director or Squad Leader while discipling a new convert. 1 hour min. weekly. D. Complete and mail to College 2 complete sermons written or typed - 4 page min. FOURTH QUARTER A. Material Needed: The Old Testament on Audio tape. Listen to the tape and have Pastor attest to completion. B. Participate in Visitation program as a soul-winner trainer 2 hours min. weekly. C. Participate in Discipleship program as Director or Squad Leader while discipling a new convert. 1 hour min. weekly. D. Complete and mail to the College 2 complete sermons written or typed 4 page min. E. Have all your recommended books. 7

10 Summary of Our Beliefs 1. We believe the Bible to be the inspired, infallible and authoritative Word of God. Preserved in the Authorized King James Version for the English speaking people. 2. We believe that there is One God, the Source, Support and End to all things, eternally existent in three persons: God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit. 3. We believe in the Deity of the Lord Jesus Christ, His virgin Birth, His sinless life, His vicarious and atoning death, His shed blood to atone for our sins, His bodily resurrection, His ascension to the Father's right hand. His personal, premillennial return for His saints and with His saints at the Revelation. 4. We believe in the Deity and present ministry of the Holy Spirit. Convicts the sinner, regenerates the believer, indwells, seals, instructs, reproves, comforts and guides the believer. That He fills and controls every life that is wholly yielded to the Lord and His Word. 5. We believe that man is totally depraved, a sinner both by nature and practice. Therefore estranged from the Lord, completely lost and blinded spiritually and in need of the convicting and regenerating work of the Holy Spirit. 6. We believe Satan is real, a mighty fallen angel, with great power allowed by God for a time, until His final destiny of eternal judgement in the Lake of Fire. 7. We believe that salvation is the gift of God, offered to all men freely by God's grace and received by personal faith in the Lord Jesus Christ and His atoning sacrifice for our sins, and repentance of our sins. 8. We believe in the bodily resurrection of the saved unto "Eternal Life" and the unsaved unto everlasting "Judgement" in the Lake of Fire". 9. We believe in a literal "Heaven" with streets of gold and a literal Hell" with fire and brimstone. 10. We believe the "Church is a local, visible, body of baptized believers who come together in obedience to Christ to carry out His commands as dictated in the New Testament. 11. We believe and practice both personal and ecclesiastical separation on the basis of the Word of God. 9
