DONOR INFORMATION The papers were donated to the State Historical Society of Missouri by an unknown donor on 15 February 1971 (Accession No. 733). ORGANIZATIONAL SKETCH The Missouri Council of was established by Governor Gardner on April 12, 1917, to stimulate patriotism and organize Missouri resources for programs and activities. Emphasis was on food production and conservation. Disloyalty, sedition and problems of German minority groups in Missouri are also mentioned. FOLDER LIST f General correspondence between local and national groups on planning, organization, intentions, and purposes of Council of. Contains letters on: various speakers; bulletins; printed and mimeographed material put out by Council. Some of the correspondence reveals mood, attitude and feeling prevalent in American thinking during years f Printed congressional acts and bills proposed or enacted during war years. f Pamphlets, correspondence and miscellaneous on farming, crop product ion and statistics on Missouri's war effort in field of agriculture. f Bulletins, pamphlets, brochures of various government agencies and Missouri Council of committees on Americanization. Particular emphasis on learning and speaking English. Miscellaneous correspondence from committees and chairmen.
