1 March 4, 2018 The 3rd Sunday in Lent Zion Lutheran Church Phone: (701) Fax: (701) Website: Find us on Facebook, search: Zion Lutheran Church You Shall Not Murder Exodus 20:13 God know very well how far humanity has fallen. He knows what kind if world this has become because of man s rebellion. You and I react with shock to the stories of murder and mayhem in the morning news. But none of it is news to Him. He knew the morning news last night. He knew it ten thousand years ago. He knows what the headlines will be tomorrow. He has always known. We live in an angry world. There are wars on innocent people, so called mercy killings, and countless abortions and yet many take no offense. You may say I ve never murdered anyone, so what does this have to do with me? Anger and hatred are murderous things; they distort our eyes and our GRADUATION, CONFIRMATION, AND EASTER CARDS are available for purchase ($1.00) in the card racks in the upper foyer! Women s Bible Study will meet this Thursday at 1 p.m. in the lounge. We will discuss Session 8, BIBLE TRANSLATIONS. LWML will meet this Saturday in Zion s basement with coffee at 10 a.m. The program will be a Lenten study titled Women with Jesus at the Cross and the Tomb followed by a business meeting. Join us for good coffee, fine fellowship, and a Lenten review. (Board will meet at 9:15 a.m. in the lounge.) Chancel Circle will meet on Friday, March 9 at 9:30 a.m. in the lounge. Due to multiple repairs done on the van over the past couple of years, it has become necessary to replace the van. If you wish to contribute to this endeavor, please indicate VAN on your offering envelope. We are anticipating finding a vehicle between $25,000-30,000. Thank you! For progress updates, see p. 3 in Life and Growth. faces, so that we reflect death. Scripture warns us to be self-controlled and alert. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lions looking for someone to devour. (1 Peter 5:8) This is not just about some external act. The Lord wants us to talk about internal things. He wants to talk about what s really happening in our hearts. God is reminding us in this commandment to take our hurt and our anger to Him. Let Him bear that pain and for to be in His tender care. Questions: 1. Is God shocked by the mayhem in the world? Why or why not? 2. Is the commandment just about the action of murder or is it more? 3. How may we take our pain and hurt to God? 7 CAMP LUTHER! Summer Enrichment Program For students age 6-6 th Grade Hosted by Martin Luther School 413 E. Avenue D Bismarck, ND (701) Tuesday, May 29 - Friday August 10 Hours 7:30 AM-5:30 PM Camp Luther is all about...,. Playing- Games, activities, playgrounds, board games, field trips, crafts, writing, reading. We will implement all of these on a regular basis along with a weekly theme. It is summer after all, and we want to focus on FUN! Learning- Even though school is out, we will still include reading and math activities in creative and fun ways to help the our kids retain those basic skills over the summer and be ready to go in the fall. We will also visit the library on a weekly basis. Relaxing-We have plans to keep our kids moving and learning, but we also plan to have down time for them to relax and free time for them to choose from a variety of activities of their choosing. Traveling- Each week will have a theme that will take us somewhere in the community. Whether it's the RR Museum in Mandan, the Fish and Wildlife Headquarters, or heading to the pool, the Bismarck/Mandan area is rich with a variety of places to visit to enrich the theme of the week and help make the summer memorable. Serving- At Camp Luther, kids will have the opportunity to serve and build relationships with elderly residents at a local care facility on a regular basis by reading, playing games and engaging other activities with them. Growing- In all that we plan this summer for our participants at Camp Luther, we integrate Christ into all that we do. Each morning will include daily devotions, some time in His Word and singing His praises. New this summer!!! Mrs. Samantha Henke, band and piano teacher at MLS will be offering music lessons through the summer. So if your child is currently taking piano, you can continue on through the summer and have your lesson while at Camp Luther. OR...if you would like to give piano lessons a try over the summer, here is your opportunity! "Miss Michelle" MacKay, our "Camp Luther Veteran" will be returning again this year. She currently serves as our before-school child care provider at MLS, as well as cook. This will be her 3rd year serving as leader at Camp Luther. Joining her will be Quincy Wyatt, our 1st grade teacher at MLS. Andrea Pansegrau, our "preschool aide extraordinaire" will also be assisting, as well as Denise Wolfgram.
