3 Psalm 110: A Psalm of David. 1 The LORD says to my Lord: Sit at My right hand Until I make Your enemies a footstool for Your feet. 2 The LORD will stretch forth Your strong scepter from Zion, saying, Rule in the midst of Your enemies. 3 Your people will volunteer freely in the day of Your power; In holy array, from the womb of the dawn, Your youth are to You as the dew.

4 Psalm 110:4-7 4 The LORD has sworn and will not change His mind, You are a priest forever According to the order of Melchizedek. 5 The Lord is at Your right hand; He will shatter kings in the day of His wrath. 6 He will judge among the nations, He will fill them with corpses, He will shatter the chief men over a broad country. 7 He will drink from the brook by the wayside; Therefore He will lift up His head.

And the large crowd enjoyed listening to Him.

9 29 Brethren, I may confidently say to you regarding the patriarch David that he both died and was buried, and his tomb is with us to this day. 30 And so, because he was a prophet and knew that GOD HAD SWORN TO HIM WITH AN OATH TO SEAT one OF HIS DESCENDANTS ON HIS THRONE, 31 he looked ahead and spoke of the resurrection of the Christ, that HE WAS NEITHER ABANDONED TO HADES, NOR DID His flesh SUFFER DECAY. 32 This Jesus God raised up again, to which we are all witnesses. 33 Therefore having been exalted to the right hand of God, and having received from the Father the promise of the Holy Spirit, He has poured forth this which you both see and hear. 34 For it was not David who ascended into heaven, but he himself says: THE LORD SAID TO MY LORD, SIT AT MY RIGHT HAND, 35 UNTIL I MAKE YOUR ENEMIES A FOOTSTOOL FOR YOUR FEET. 36 Therefore let all the house of Israel know for certain that God has made Him both Lord and Christ this Jesus whom you crucified. Acts 2:29-36

14 Melchizedek 18 And Melchizedek king of Salem brought out bread and wine; now he was a priest of God Most High. 19 He [Melchizedek] blessed him [Abram] and said, Blessed be Abram of God Most High, Possessor of heaven and earth; 20 And blessed be God Most High, Who has delivered your enemies into your hand. He [Abram] gave him [Melch.] a tenth of all. [Genesis 14] 3 Without father, without mother, without genealogy, having neither beginning of days nor end of life, but made like the Son of God, he [Melchizedek] remains a priest perpetually. [Hebrews 7:3]

15 Hebrews 5:5-7 5 So also Christ did not glorify Himself so as to become a high priest, but He who said to Him, YOU ARE MY SON, TODAY I HAVE BEGOTTEN YOU ; 6 just as He says also in another passage, YOU ARE A PRIEST FOREVER ACCORDING TO THE ORDER OF MELCHIZEDEK. 7 In the days of His flesh, He offered up both prayers and supplications with loud crying and tears to the One able to save Him from death, and He was heard because of His piety.

16 Hebrews 7 15 And this is clearer still, if another priest arises according to the likeness of Melchizedek, 16 who has become such not on the basis of a law of physical requirement, but according to the power of an indestructible life. 17 For it is attested of Him, YOU ARE A PRIEST FOREVER ACCORDING TO THE ORDER OF MELCHIZEDEK. 20 And inasmuch as it was not without an oath 21 (for they indeed became priests without an oath, but He with an oath through the One who said to Him, THE LORD HAS SWORN AND WILL NOT CHANGE HIS MIND, YOU ARE A PRIEST FOREVER ); 22 so much the more also Jesus has become the guarantee of a better covenant.

18 Hebrews 6: This hope we have as an anchor of the soul, a hope both sure and steadfast and one which enters within the veil, 20 where Jesus has entered as a forerunner for us, having become a high priest forever according to the order of Melchizedek.

19 Psalm 110:5-6 5 The Lord [âdônây] is at Your right hand; He will shatter kings in the day of His wrath. 6 He will judge among the nations, He will fill them with corpses, He will shatter the chief men over a broad country. 15 From His mouth comes a sharp sword, so that with it He may strike down the nations, and He will rule them with a rod of iron; and He treads the wine press of the fierce wrath of God, the Almighty. 16 And on His robe and on His thigh He has a name written, KING OF KINGS, AND LORD OF LORDS. [Rev.19]

21 Psalm 110:3 3 Your people [troops] will volunteer [offer themselves] freely in the day of Your power [battle]; In holy array [beauties of holiness] [on the holy hills], from the womb of the dawn [at sunrise], Your youth are [will come] to You as the dew [the dew of your youth will be yours]. Therefore I urge you, brethren, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies a living and holy sacrifice, acceptable to God, which is your spiritual service of worship. [Romans 12:1]

22 10 Then I heard a loud voice in heaven, saying, Now the salvation, and the power, and the kingdom of our God and the authority of His Christ have come, for the accuser of our brethren has been thrown down, he who accuses them before our God day and night. 11 And they overcame him because of the blood of the Lamb and because of the word of their testimony, and they did not love their life even when faced with death. [Rev. 12:10-11]

23 26 He who overcomes, and he who keeps My deeds until the end, TO HIM I WILL GIVE AUTHORITY OVER THE NATIONS; 27 AND HE SHALL RULE THEM WITH A ROD OF IRON, AS THE VESSELS OF THE POTTER ARE BROKEN TO PIECES, as I also have received authority from My Father; 28 and I will give him the morning star. 29 He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches. [Rev. 2: 26-29]

24 Psalm 110:7 7 He will drink from the brook by the wayside; Therefore He will lift up His head. 30 Therefore when Jesus had received the sour wine, He said, It is finished! And He bowed His head and gave up His spirit.

25 Psalm 110: Summary Long before Christ s incarnation, David prophesied that a king greater than himself would appear on the throne of Israel. At some future time, that King would sit at the right hand of Jehovah and occupy the office of priest as well, apart from the Levitical priesthood. An even later day will come when the King/Priest will lead a volunteer army to victory against his enemies, the nations which have rejected him.

26 Psalm 110: Lessons for us Recognize the value of prophecy in the Psalms. Be thankful for God s revelation of his son s roles in His plan for us. Enjoy access to God now through the priestly function of Jesus Christ. Freely offer our lives to Christ as our Savior. Serve in His army as guided by the Holy Spirit. Look forward to the day when we can enjoy living under the righteous rule of the victorious King.
