ELMS Meal Thursday November 16 from 5-6 pm Turkey, mashed potatoes, cranberry sauce. ELMS donations needed: Koolaid fruit punch, Dinner size napkins, chinet dinner plates, 12 oz plastic cups for cold drinks. October ELMS meal served 105 total (65 in house, 40 carry outs). $$ was spent. Donations were $ Cost per meal=$1.12.

3 Thankoffering Service Sunday November 19, 10:30 am. Pastor Meg Boger will be our preacher for the day. Women of the Church will assist with the service and provide snacks for Coffee Hour after church. Altar Guild Thankoffering Set Up- THURSDAY NOVEMBER 16 at 10:00am. Please bring any fall decorations. Women s Circles Eu-Hannah Circle will meet Monday November 6 th at the home of Mary Evans. Mary will be providing us lunch at 1:00 pm. We will meet at the church at 12:30 to carpool. We will reveal our secret sisters and have our gift exchange. This is in addition to our Bible study and meeting. The December 4 th meeting will be back at the Magruder café. 4 Council Minutes October 12, 2017 PEACE LUTHERAN CHURCH COUNCIL Meeting called to order by Pres. Richard Morgan. Present: Mary Kozlok, Tracey Smith, Jane Fleming, Kathy Wolfe, Anne Colston, Karin Messner Tracey Smith will be assuming the duties of Treasurer and is reviewing accounts. It will be necessary to change signatures as required by bank. New signees will be Richard Morgan, Tracey Smith and Karin Messner. Note: There is no conflict of interest with Tracey serving as both Treasurer and Financial Secretary as all funds are handled by Counters. It has been requested that Council Meeting Minutes be more complete and posted. Your secretary will make every effort to comply Minutes will be included in newsletter. Please note that most decisions are by consensus. Minutes are in order of discussion. In the absence of Trustee Lou Engler, a written report was reviewed: A listing of required maintenance will be considered at next meeting. Carpets in Fellowship Hall have been cleaned. Shed at parsonage has been totally cleared for new renters. The poinsettia tree and wreaths are now stored in church shed. A small gas leak at parsonage will be fixed tomorrow. Stove in parsonage has been hooked up. New renters were happy with paint colors and parsonage was left in good shape. Bats appear to be gone from sanctuary. Stewardship campaign now stands at $10,350. Copier costs have been negotiated. Color will be kept to a minimum. One page in color in newsletter costs $12 a month. New renters are Christina Floro and Jamie Vargas. Christina has three children, Jamie has two. They are nonsmokers, have no pets and are known to friends and relatives as neat freaks! Both parents are employed and given high recommendations by employers and previous landlords. Rent will be due 13 th of the month. Renters to pay all utilities. Anne Colston moved that $4000 of $1100 rent fee be kept in a special account for parsonage maintenance. Seconded by Jane Fleming. Unanimously approved. Richard Morgan and neighbor Karin Messner have keys and will be renter s contacts. For Sale signs have been posted on the two Madison St. lots. They are priced at $32,000 each. A third smaller lot at the north end will be kept as a passageway between the church and Madison St. Our barbecue pit remains on church property. An offer of $45,000 for both lots has been made but refused with a counter of $60,000. Realtor Jeff Morgan has reduced his fee from $7000 to $6000 per lot. Lowest bid considered for both lots $58,000 subject to approval by Richard Morgan. A list of duties for a new secretary has been approved and per hour cost set at $12. Approximately 16 hours per week. Number of hours to be reviewed following establishment of new budget. President distributed numerous sheets for review by Council members including the residential lease agreement, dissolving of ELMS, Proposed Fellowship Hall usage form and fee structure, wedding usage and expenses, other church property usage. Raising current fee charges is being considered to bring us more in line with other churches. Note: All documents mentioned in this report are available in the church office for review. The ELMS partnership with St. Thomas has been dissolved and has resulted in a payment of $7000 to Peace from St. Thomas not clear as to why we were owed this, but happy to accept their treasurer s decision!

5 Arrangements for Rocktoberfest are proceeding well. Peace will be absorbing electricity charges but will not be donating dollars following much consideration by Council. Please note that IC Catholic Church and St. John s are each contributing $1000. We are, of course, providing our grounds and Fellowship Hall. Council felt that we unfortunately are not in a position to contribute such sums. Please note that personal donations and energies are welcomed by the Rocktoberfest committee. Supply Pastors for upcoming Sundays: Richard Morgan, Oct. 15, Richard Sauerlender 22, Al Bauman, 29, Meg Boger, Nov. 5, John Ferne, 12, Meg Boger, Thankoffering Nov. 19, Dane Meuschke, 26. Christmas Eve falls on a Sunday this year. Music Committee to meet and decide when to have Services. All input welcomed. An important State of the Church/Election of Officers/Congregational Meeting will be held following 10:30 Services and a potluck luncheon either the first or second Sunday in Dec. subject to yet to be learned date of community Messiah concert. Two Council positions are open this year in addition to President and Vice- President. They are Education and Stewardship. Nominating committee: Jeanne Morgan, Jason Barton- Kashmer, Barb McLaury, Richard Morgan. A heating/cooling maintenance contract for both church and parsonage will be considered following establishment of new budget. Catechism classes have begun with St. John. Unsure who we have participating. An overcharge for Christ in Our Home devotionals is being investigated. Budget meeting set for Nov. 2, 6:30. Next Council meeting Nov. 9 6:30 Respectfully submitted, Karin Messner, Secretary. Re:Envision Stewardship Campaign Update 11/02/17 We have $11,450 pledged and/or received for Phase 1 of the Stewardship project. We d love to be able to secure the remaining $1600 in time to install the equipment for Christmas Eve! The parking lot will be getting done weather permitting with funds designated from Council. Congregational Annual Meeting Sunday December 3 Please plan to attend this meeting right after worship, beginning with a Pot Luck Meal. (Details on the meal to follow later this month) Election of Council officers, passing the 2018 budget and the president will offer a report on the State of the Church. Don t miss it! Come and gather to build up the body of Christ! Straw Poll about Dec. 24 A straw poll was conducted at the worship service on Sunday Oct. 29 to determine if people wanted us to have both the Advent 4 Sunday morning service on Sunday Dec. 24 AND the Christmas Eve service at 5:00pm, or just skip the Sunday morning service and just have the Christmas Eve service at 5:00pm. An overwhelming majority 20-2 said they would prefer not to have the Sunday morning Advent 4 worship and just have the Christmas Eve service at 5:00pm. The worship and music committee concurred with this decision, so we will NOT have a worship service on Sunday morning December 24 at 10:30am. We WILL have the Christmas Eve 5:00pm Candlelight Service.
