3 Revelation Chapter Twelve Revelation 12:1 And there appeared a great wonder* in heaven; a woman clothed with the sun, and the moon under her feet, and upon her head a crown of twelve stars: Revelation 12:1 What appeared in heaven? What was the woman clothed in? What was under her feet? What was on her head? (*Wonder is the same as sign.) Directions for the above booklet. Answer the questions on each card. Cut out your drawing when finished. Next, cut out pocket and fold tabs back when dry insert drawing into pocket. Who is the woman? Many scholars believe that to find out who the woman is we must go back to Genesis 37:9-10 when Joseph had his dream. In Revelation 12:1, the woman is described as a: great sign in heaven, a woman clothed with the sun, with the moon under her feet, and on her head twelve stars. If we know what the sun, moon, and 12 stars mean here, we can know for sure who the woman is. In Genesis 37:9-10 it says "And he (Joseph) dreamed yet another dream, and told it his brethren, and said, Behold, I have dreamed a dream more; and, behold, the sun and the moon and the eleven stars made obeisance to me. And he told it to his father, and to his brethren: and his father rebuked him, and said unto him, What is this dream that thou hast dreamed? Shall I and thy mother and thy brethren indeed come to bow down ourselves to thee to the earth?" Scholars believe that Genesis 37:10 clearly explains the symbols as Joseph's family: the sun was his father Jacob, the moon was his mother Rachel, and

6 the 11 stars were his brothers (the sons of Jacob, tribes of Israel). So we know the woman in Revelation is Israel --- a Jewish Israel. She wears the very early symbols given to Jacob and the tribes. And the dragon was wroth with the woman, and went to make war with the remnant of her seed, which keep the commandments of God, and have the testimony of Jesus Christ. Revelation 12:17 Another proof text that the woman is Israel, because it was to Israel the commandments of God were given; but note the war isn't with all her children, only those who also believe in Jesus. The dragon is after believing Israel -- the remnant -- which is comprised of Jewish believers and grafted in Gentiles. Compare to: Here is the patience of the saints: here are they that keep the commandments of God, and the faith of Jesus. Revelation 14:12 The woman in Revelation is Israel; her remnant is believing Israel.

7 Revelation 12:3 And there appeared another wonder in heaven; and behold a great red dragon, having seven heads and ten horns, and seven crowns upon his heads. Revelation 12:3 What appeared in heaven? What color was the dragon? How many heads did it have? How many horns did it have? How many crowns did it have?

And the great dragon was cast out, that old serpent, called the Devil, and Satan, which deceiveth the whole world: he was cast out into the earth, and his angels were cast out with him. Revelation 12:4 And his (the dragon) tail drew the third part of the stars of heaven*, and did cast them to the earth: and the dragon stood before the woman which was ready to be delivered, for to devour her child as soon as it was born**. 10 (*Scholars believe that the stars of heaven talked about in Revelation 12:4 are fallen angels also described in Revelation 12:9. In Satan's original rebellion against God he was able to convince a third a God's angels to follow him which are now demons.) (Optional: Read Isaiah 14:12-15, Ezekiel 28:12-16, 2 Peter 2:4 and Jude 1:6) (**At the time of the birth of Jesus, Satan was ready to kill him. Revelation 12:5 And she (the woman/israel) brought forth a man child, who was to rule all nations with a rod of iron: and her child was caught up unto God, and to his throne. Revelation 12:6 And the woman (Israel) fled into the wilderness*, where she hath a place prepared of God, that they** should feed her there a thousand two hundred and threescore*** days. Revelation 12:6 Where did the woman flee? They should feed her there (in the wilderness) how many day? (*The wilderness could possibly be the mountains as Jesus states in Matthew 24:16.) (** They could possibly refer to the people of the place where Israel flees provides for the people.) (***A score is 20. So three score would be 60.) 13 Revelation 12:7 And there was war in heaven: Michael and his angels fought against the dragon; and the dragon fought and his angels, Revelation 12:8 And (the dragon) prevailed not; neither was their place found any more in heaven. 16 Revelation 12:10 And I (John) heard a loud voice saying in heaven, Now is come salvation, and strength, and the kingdom of our God, and the power of his Christ: for the accuser (the Devil) of our brethren (believers) is cast down, which accused them before our God day and night. Revelation 12:11 And they (the believers) overcame him (the devil) by the blood of the Lamb, and by the word of their testimony; and they loved not their lives unto the death. 18 Revelation 12:12 Therefore rejoice, ye heavens, and ye that dwell in them. Woe* to the inhabiters of the earth and of the sea! for the devil is come down unto you (the earth), having great wrath, because he knoweth that he hath but a short time. Why is there woe to the inhabiters of the earth and sea in Revelation 12:12? (*Woe means great sorrow or distress. Things that cause sorrow or distress; troubles.) (Note: This will be Satan's final attempt to prevent the return and reign of Christ. He has only a short time to prevent the establishment of Christ's kingdom. 19 Revelation 12:13 And when the dragon saw that he was cast unto the earth, he persecuted the woman (Israel) which brought forth the man child (Messiah, Jesus).
