C. Sturgeon, Esq., seconded resolutons, and expressed hs determnaton to pay no taxes, (Tremendous applause.) To come to any resoluto that effect mght be llegal, but an ndvdual mght pay or not as he thought proper. (Cheers, and shouts Well pay no taxes.) Mr. OConnell, havng been loudly called for, [tme, but y burst r bonds and cashsred [despot. (Cheers.) The people England would now, as y have done n former tmes, do r duty to mselves and r country. Attack on Bshop Lchfeld and Coventry. t s customary for an annual sermon to be preached before Lord Mayor London at St. Brdes Church, Fleet-street, n support chartes parsh. t appears that Sunday last was apponted for that purpose, and Lord Bshop Lchfeld and Coventry (Dr. Ryder bror Lord Harrowby) had fered hs servces, whch were accepted. We should state, t s always customary for Lord Mayor to attend n state. The nomnaton bshop to preach sermon dd not gve general satsfacton to parshoners, and numerous placards were crculated, callng upon people to attend, and express r opnon Bshops conduct u House Lords. A large crowd assembled n Fleet-street, and avenues leadng to church, between ten and elevenoclock, and was subsequently much ncreased. Upon arrval Lord Mayor, hs lordshp was receved wth loud and contnued plaudts. He was accompaned by Lady Mayoress, but upoh pous prelates carrage makng ts appearance, most horrd yells were uttered, and some mud was thrown at carrage. t was wth great dffculty bshop succeeded n reachng vestryroom, from whence he was escorted by parsh functonares and a large body polce, to hs seat n church, whch was now flled wth a dense mass persons, whle crowd outsde greatly ncreased. Much alarm was panted n countenances far sex, several whom qutted church long before concluson sermon. The bshop was much agtated when he entered pulpt. n course sermon he appeared much recovered, rnt a tremendous shout from mob outsde, and an evdent movement from sde asle wthn church, agan appeared to affect BU shops nerves. At concluson sermon, Bshop, wth some dffculty, oned Lord Mayor and Lad Mayogess, and proceeded under r protecton and great actvty polce, down mddle asle church but as soon as he readed outer part, crowd, whch was very great, began lo applaud.lord Mayor and Lady Mayoress, untl percevng Bshop made part cortege., y set up most tremendous groans and shouts, and mmedately a rush was made to seze bshop, and ns lfe was certanly n no lttle per from angry and vndctve conduct mob, both wthn and wlhoutsde church. The Lord Mayor, wth great quckness and dexterty, sezed Bshop by arm, and placed hm before hm, by whch means Bshop was enabled to escape nto vestry-room. He appeared dreadfully agtated, and requested to accompany Lord Mayor n bs state carrage, but Lady Mayoress beng present, and t never beng customary for any or person but fcers attached to hs sute to rde wth hs lordshp, fer was poltely declned. Word beng brought that crowd had somewhat dspersed, Lord Mayors carrage w as ordered to he drawn up, and bshops to follow' qute close.
