16 WILLIAM STARBUCK (#162), FATHER OF JUDITH STARBUCK Again, I voice my concern about grouping numbers of footnotes together (1, 2, 3, 4, 6, 7, 8, 9, 13, 14, 15); it is confusing as to which footnote refers to which fact. Do you have a source for the death of child #1, Nathaniel, lost at sea? This seems to be such a common and unfortunate fate for many people in coastal areas of New England in early days. You do not have a footnote for three of William s children, Nathaniel, Jethro and Anna. What are the sources for their names and information? Regarding footnote #2: This undated family letter by itself is not a proof; it does reference the Town Clerk of Nantucket and Savage, but does it refer to some specific document that you were able to obtain? Is the letter in your possession? If you know the location of the letter, be sure to say so in your footnote. Regarding footnote #3: Does this source refer to any specific document(s)? An unauthored source is immediately suspect as a proof, unless it leads you to some concrete record. Regarding footnotes #4 and 14: I haven t seen the Macy book, but are actual documents referred to? If it is just a narrative based on family lore, then it is a secondary source, not a proof. Just a word about the National Genealogical Society Quarterly citations: Those old publications are an accurate source when they refer to actual records. Sometimes the authors ramble on about their own ancestors and engage in flights of fancy about their virtues, etc., but when they refer to records, they are very nice sources indeed! If actual records are referred to, you might want to mention it! Regarding footnote #5: Again, as mentioned in Anna s report, if this marriage record exists as stated in the Nantucket records, including the parents names, you have an excellent proof of the parentage of both William Starbuck and Anna Folger! Regarding footnote #12: As with footnote #5, this is just the kind of proof needed. CONCLUSION: BASED ON THE VITAL RECORDS OF NANTUCKET, YOUR DOCUMENTATION PROVES THE PARENTAGE OF BOTH WILLIAM STARBUCK AND ANNA FOLGER, AS WELL AS THEIR DAUGHTER, JUDITH STARBUCK.
