2 ROI Symposium Objectives The opportunity to bring together DoD, Industry, Other Federal Government, and Universities/non-Profits to share standard practices of the Return on Investment (ROI) for research and development (R&D) The opportunity for the DoD to obtain the knowledge from the Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) of Industry, Other Federal Government, and Universities/non-Profits to develop an effective/meaningful ROI framework to justify the strategic alignment of medical Defense Health Program (DHP) Research, Development, Testing & Evaluation (RDT&E) investments The opportunity for participants, industry, universities, and other federal Government of developing potential partnership(s) and/or collaboration(s) with DoD 2

3 Agenda Outline Host: The Defense Health Agency J9 Research and Development Directorate (DHA J9 R&D) Event Date: October 11, 2017 (Wednesday) Location: National Oceanic Atmospheric Administration Auditorium and Science Center located at 1315 East West Highway, Silver Spring, Maryland Symposium Start and End Times: The symposium will start at 0830 and end at 1700 for the day of the event. Please ensure you come early to check-in for the event. 5 Symposium Location The 2017 DHA J9 ROI Symposium will be held at the National Oceanic Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) Auditorium and Science Center located at 1315 East West Highway, Silver Spring, Maryland The NOAA Complex has five buildings the NOAA Auditorium and Science Center is located in the building behind the wave pool. Other points of interest is the Bennington Apartments runs parallel to the building with the Ikkos Japanese Restaurant on the corner of the apartment building. Registration Please ensure you have your Government issued Identification to gain access to the building. This is your PIV, CAC, Driver s License, or your passport. For personnel without work issued Government identification, you will need to go through the screening to gain access to the building. The security in place is only for our meeting and the time to pass through should not be too timely. Dining Options NOAA complex has many delis within each of the buildings. The closest is in the corner of the building adjacent to the Auditorium and Science Center. Peet s Coffee and Starbucks both a short walk down the street and close by the Silver Spring Metro. There is a shopping center on East West Highway with the following eateries: Peet s Coffee Crisp and Juicy Oriental East Mamma Lucia 5

6 Driving Directions From the Beltway (I-495) Take Beltway Exit 30-B (Route 29 South) to Silver Spring. This is Colesville Road. Follow Colesville Road in the center lane until you reach downtown Silver Spring and cross Georgia Avenue, then merge into the left lane. The next street is East-West Highway, Route 410. Make a left at the light onto East-West Highway. At the third building with the Hand in front, make a left into the Garage. Or take Beltway Exit 31-B (South to Georgia Avenue/Silver Spring). Follow Georgia Avenue down to Colesville Road. Make a right onto Colesville Road into the left lane. Make a left at the next light onto East-West Highway. At the third building, with the Hand in front, make a left into the Garage. From Reagan National Airport Take I-395 North to Washington Take 12th Street Exit and turn right on 16th Street Turn Right on Colesville Road (Rt 29 North) The Hotel is located on the corner of Colesville Rd. and Spring Street (on the right) From Baltimore Intl Airport Take I-195 West to I-95 South Take I-495 West to Silver Spring Exit at 30-B (Colesville Rd/Rt 29 South) Go 2 miles from the Exit Taxi/Limo Cost Varies. Shuttle Approx. $17.00 USD one way. Metro Approx. $3.45 USD one way. The NOAA Science Center is located on the corner of Colesville Rd. and Spring Street (on the left). 6

7 Parking NOAA Parking Garage: 1315 East-West Hwy, Silver Spring, MD Entrances: East-West Highway Customer Service: (240) Rate: $0.70 per hour Hours Requiring Payment: Mon-Fri, 7 am - 7 pm Type: Pay by Space Clearance: 8' x 2" Metro Take the Red Line to Silver Spring Metro Station. If you are coming from downtown Washington, DC, take the escalator steps toward the back of the train. If you re coming South from Wheaton, take the escalator steps toward the front of the train. Exit the fare gates and turn left out of the metro station. Walk diagonally-left across the small courtyard between SSMC I and SSMC II towards East West-Highway (see Map). At East-West Highway, turn to the left and walk up the street approximately ¼ mile past the building with the Hand until you reach a courtyard. Then entrance to the Science Center/ Auditorium is recessed behind the NOAA wave pool/discovery park (see Building Location Map). 7
