2 1 Nephi 3:7 Do He prepares for me In 1 Nephi 3 Picture Description The n for Nephi is the top part of the saddle. The 3 for Chapter 3 is the bottom part of the saddle. The 1 for 1 st Nephi is the body of the Nephi sitting on top of the saddle. This scripture is Nephi stating that he would go and do what the Lord had commanded. Remember that at the time Nephi s family was in the wilderness and they probably had many camels they were traveling with. Nephi may have gone back to Jerusalem on a camel to do what the Lord had commanded him to do! Scripture 7 And it came to pass that I, Nephi, said unto my father: I will go and do the things which the Lord hath commanded, for I know that the Lord giveth no commandments unto the children of men, save he shall prepare a way for them that they may accomplish the thing which he commandeth them. Historical Setting The Lord told Lehi to send his sons back to Jerusalem to get the brass plates from Laban. Doctrinal Teaching The Lord prepares a way for all of us to keep His commandments. Missionary Help a nonmember friend realize that God will help him or her obey the commandments to prepare him or her for baptism. Personal When the Lord, maybe through the bishop, asks you to do something, have faith that the Lord will open the way to help you do it. 1

4 1 Nephi 19:23 Liken Scriptures are seen In 1 Nephi 19 Picture Description The 1 for Chapter 19 Nephi is on the left of the book, the 9 is in the book making chapter 19. The N in the book is for 1 st Nephi. This scripture tells us that we should liken the scripture to ourselves. The 9 in the book has a man inside of it. The tail of the 9 is pointing out to the man outside of the book. Representing that we should take the scriptures we read and see how we can make liken or apply to our life. Scripture 23 And I did read many things unto them which were written in the books of Moses; but that I might more fully persuade them to believe in the Lord their Redeemer I did read unto them that which was written by the prophet Isaiah; for I did liken all scriptures unto us, that it might be for our profit and learning. Historical Setting After obtaining the brass plates, Nephi read the scriptures to his family. Doctrinal Teaching The scriptures persuade us to believe in Jesus Christ and are for our profit and learning. Missionary Teach an investigator that scriptures have application to us yesterday, today, and tomorrow. Personal Select some problem in your life and sincerely try to solve it by applying a principle from a scripture. 2

6 2 Nephi 2:25 Fell Adam fell for you In 2 Nephi 2 Picture Description The 2 for 2 nd book is the first 2 that looks like a woman. The Two men in the middle form an N for Nephi to make 2 nd Nephi. The 2 on the right is for Chapter 2. In this scripture it tells us that Adam fell and that we might have joy and we have our greatest joy in an eternal marriage. Notice that the two men are holding hands with the woman at their side. The men are standing side by side as brethren in the gospel but they have a sweetheart by their side... their eternal companion. Scripture 25 Adam fell that men might be; and men are, that they might have joy. Historical Setting Lehi gave farewell counsel to his son Jacob and taught him about Adam s Fall. Doctrinal Teaching Mortality was made possible by Adam s Fall; we exist so that we might experience joy. Missionary Explain to a new convert that birth on this earth was a result of Adam s Fall. Personal In your thoughts, your Church discussions, in teaching, and on occasion in your prayers, express appreciation for Adam and Eve. 3

8 2 Nephi 2:27 Free Freedom for you In 2 Nephi 2 Picture Description The 2 on the left is for 2 nd book. The N in the middle is for Nephi. The 2 on the right is for chapter 2. In this scripture it tell is that men are free to choose eternal life or death and our choices ultimately decided where we will end up in this life. The 3 circles with the arrows represent the 3 degrees of glory. The bottom circle- Telestial, the middle circle the Terrestrial & the Top circle Celestial. Scripture 27 Wherefore, men are free according to the flesh; and all things are given them which are expedient unto man. And they are free to choose liberty and eternal life, through the great Mediator of all men, or to choose captivity and death, according to the captivity and power of the devil; for he seeketh that all men might be miserable like unto himself. Historical Setting Before he died, Lehi gave farewell counsel to his son Jacob and taught him about agency. Doctrinal Teaching Men are free to choose freedom and eternal life or captivity and death. Missionary Explain to someone outside the Church that there are consequences to using agency. Personal Analyze the consequences of the choices you made today and the ways your choices affect your freedom. 4

10 2 Nephi 9:28-29 Learning Learning is fine In 2 Nephi 9 Picture Description The verse reference is written in the professors hair, 2 Nephi 9. This scripture tells us that learning is of God. This man is a professor... see his bow tie! To become a professor he had to spend lots of time in study and he continues to learn so that he can teach his students. We too need to have a livelong pattern of learning and study. Scripture 28 O that cunning plan of the evil one! O the vainness, and the frailties, and the foolishness of men! When they are learned they think they are wise, and they hearken not unto the counsel of God, for they set it aside, supposing they know of themselves, wherefore, their wisdom is foolishness and it profiteth them not. And they shall perish. 29 But to be learned is good if they hearken unto the counsels of God. Historical Setting After having been called of God and ordained by Nephi, Jacob taught the Nephite people. Doctrinal Teaching To obtain knowledge is good if you follow the counsel of God. Missionary Bear testimony that God s counsel is greater than man s wisdom. Personal Measure the things you learn in school by what you learn from the scriptures. 5

12 2 Nephi 28:7-9 Eat Sinning isn t great In 2 Nephi 28 Picture Description The 2 for 2 nd book is in the bottle to the left. The N for Nephi is in the middle can shape. The 28 for the chapter is in the last two bottles on the right. This scripture explains how some will tell us that we can just eat, drink, be merry and die. The bottles and cans in this picture remind us of the drink until we die part of the scripture. But the Lords plan tells that this idea is false. Scripture 7 Yea, and there shall be many which shall say: Eat, drink, and be merry, for tomorrow we die; and it shall be well with us. 8 And there shall also be many which shall say: Eat, drink, and be merry; nevertheless, fear God -- he will justify in committing a little sin; yea, lie a little, take the advantage of one because of his words, dig a pit for thy neighbor; there is no harm in this; and do all these things, for tomorrow we die; and if it so be that we are guilty, God will beat us with a few stripes, and at last we shall be saved in the kingdom of God. 9 Yea, and there shall be many which shall teach after this manner, false and vain and foolish doctrines, and shall be puffed up in their hearts, and shall seek deep to hide their counsels from the Lord; and their works shall be in the dark. Historical Setting Nephi prophesied about the worldly philosophies that would be taught in the latter days. Doctrinal Teaching In the last days many people will say that it is all right to commit a little sin. Missionary Teach a nonmember that little sins can keep us out of God s kingdom. Personal Beginning today, stop committing some socalled little sin. 6

14 2 Nephi 32:3 Feast A feast for you In 2 Nephi 32 Picture Description The 2 for the book is the head of the man. The N for Nephi is the body of the man. The 32 for the chapter is in the talking bubble of the man and written on the pages of the scripture. This scripture tells us that we need to feast upon the words of Christ. This man is reading the scriptures and they tell give him the inspiration to know what to tell others. The lines around the man are the feeling of the spirit that lets him know that what he is teaching from the scripture is true. Scripture 3 Angels speak by the power of the Holy Ghost; wherefore, they speak the words of Christ. Wherefore, I said unto you, feast upon the words of Christ; for behold, the words of Christ will tell you all things what ye should do. Historical Setting Nephi concluded his prophecy by expressing concern that people did not fully understand the doctrine of Jesus Christ. Doctrinal Teaching Angels speak by the power of the Holy Ghost, and if we will feast upon the words of Christ, the words of Jesus Christ will tell us what we should do. Missionary Help a nonmember understand that sincerely studying the Book of Mormon can lead to a testimony of its truthfulness. Personal Approach your study of the Book of Mormon as a spiritual feast. Read, study, visualize, and ponder this great scripture, and you will find solutions to many problems you are experiencing. 7

16 2 Nephi 32:8-9 Pray Pray and do In 2 Nephi 32 Picture Description The 2 for the book is kneeling man on the left. The N for Nephi is in the middle. The 32 for the chapter is the little 3 followed by the kneeling 2 on the right. This scripture tells us that we need to pray to know what it is that we should do. We see the 2 missionaries (see their ties) kneeling in prayer as companions before they go off to work each day. Scripture 8 And now, my beloved brethren, I perceive that ye ponder still in your hearts; and it grieveth me that I must speak concerning this thing. For if ye would hearken unto the Spirit which teacheth a man to pray ye would know that ye must pray; for the evil spirit teacheth not a man to pray, but teacheth him that he must not pray. 9 But behold, I say unto you that ye must pray always, and not faint; that ye must not perform any thing unto the Lord save in the first place ye shall pray unto the Father in the name of Christ, that he will consecrate thy performance unto thee, that thy performance may be for the welfare of thy soul. Historical Setting Near the end of his life, Nephi was grieved by man s tendency to misunderstand the things of God. Doctrinal Teaching The Holy Ghost teaches us to pray. The devil teaches us not to pray. We should pray always so that all we do may be acceptable unto the Lord. Missionary Help an investigator realize that Satan does not want him or her to pray to know that Joseph Smith is a prophet. Personal Pray every day even if you are strongly tempted not to. 8

18 Jacob 2:18-19 Riches Richest for you In Jacob 2 Picture Description The J for Jacob is the left leg of the R in the word Riches. The 2 is the Rounded side of the R in the capital R that is attached to the J to make a capital R. This scripture tells us that before we seek riches we should seek for the kingdom of God. Then after we have received a hope in Christ we can obtain riches if we want them to do good with. The word riches is surrounded by dashed to indicate that if we have the spirit and testimony of Christ we will have riches.. Riches that the world cannot take from us! Scripture 18 But before ye seek for riches, seek ye for the kingdom of God. 19 And after ye have obtained a hope in Christ ye shall obtain riches, if ye seek them; and ye will seek them for the intent to do good -- to clothe the naked, and to feed the hungry, and to liberate the captive, and administer relief to the sick and the afflicted. Historical Setting After the death of Nephi, the Lord instructed the prophet Jacob to go to the temple and warn the people of the consequences of their wickedness. Doctrinal Teaching Seek first for the things of God, and then use the riches of the world for doing good. Missionary Help a nonmember appreciate the importance of the gospel in comparison to worldly riches. Personal Put your greatest effort into gaining a testimony of Jesus Christ; when you put Christ first, you will use whatever riches you may obtain to do good. 9

20 Mosiah 2:17 Serve Service is for you In Mosiah 2 Picture Description The M for Mosiah is the body of the man on the left. The 2 for the chapter is the hunched over woman on the right. This scripture tells us that we should serve others. The man is reaching out to assist the hunched over woman.. Hunched over physically or spiritually we should reach out to help others. Scripture 17 And behold, I tell you these things that ye may learn wisdom; that ye may learn that when ye are in the service of your fellow beings ye are only in the service of your God. Historical Setting Before giving up the kingdom to his son Mosiah, King Benjamin talked to his people about service. Doctrinal Teaching You serve God when you serve your fellow beings. Missionary Help your friends realize that service to others is how we serve God. Personal Serve God by serving others in volunteer neighborhood or community service. 10

22 Mosiah 3:19 Child As a child be In Mosiah 3 Picture Description The M for Mosiah is the man on the left. The 3 for the chapter is the little girl on the right. In this scripture it tell us that Jesus said that we should be like a child. The M looks like he is in a robe like Jesus would wear. He is reaching out to take the hand of the little 3 child. Children are always loving and trusting and would be comfortable in the presence of Christ. Scripture 19 For the natural man is an enemy to God, and has been from the fall of Adam, and will be, forever and ever, unless he yields to the enticings of the Holy Spirit, and putteth off the natural man and becometh a saint through the atonement of Christ the Lord, and becometh as a child, submissive, meek, humble, patient, full of love, willing to submit to all things which the Lord seeth fit to inflict upon him, even as a child doth submit to his father. Historical Setting King Benjamin taught his people what an angel had taught him the night before. Doctrinal Teaching The natural, or fallen, man is an enemy to God. By yielding to the Spirit and becoming like a child, we can overcome the natural man. Missionary Show your nonmember friends that without the Holy Spirit we are in a fallen, or natural, state and are not close to God. Personal Listen to the Spirit and be more submissive, patient, and full of love, even when you may be tempted to argue with or rebel against family members. 11

This scripture tell us that we should watch 3 things words, thoughts, deeds (represented by the other 3 4 s in the picture). Scripture 30 But this much I can tell you, that if ye do not watch yourselves, and your thoughts, and your words, and your deeds, and observe the commandments of God, and continue in the faith of what ye have heard concerning the coming of our Lord, even unto the end of your lives, ye must perish. And now, O man, remember, and perish not. Historical Setting King Benjamin concluded his address from the tower. Doctrinal Teaching We are responsible for our thoughts, words, and deeds. Missionary Teach an investigator that he or she must repent of and gain control over bad thoughts, words, and deeds in order to gain eternal life. Personal Be aware that what you read, see, and hear influences your thoughts and may also influence your words and actions. 12

This scripture tell us that we need to have faith in things that are true. The large A looks like a church. We can have faith in the church because it is true! Scripture 21 And now as I said concerning faith -- faith is not to have a perfect knowledge of things; therefore if ye have faith ye hope for things which are not seen, which are true. Historical Setting The poor Zoramites had been denied the right to worship in their synagogues, so Alma preached to them. Doctrinal Teaching Faith is not a perfect knowledge. It is hope for things you do not see, but which are true. Missionary Help a new convert realize that faith comes as he or she studies about the Church. Personal Develop your faith as you read and ponder the Book of Mormon this year. 13

28 Alma 34:32-34 Prepare Procrastinate no more In Alma 34 Picture Description The A for Alma is the lying down A. The 34 for the chapter is the title of the picture Died at 34. This scripture tell us that this is the time to meet God and that we need to prepare for that day. In this picture we see that this man died at 34 I am sure he did not plan to die so young I hope he was ready! Scripture 32 For behold, this life is the time for men to prepare to meet God; yea, behold the day of this life is the day for men to perform their labors. 33 And now, as I said unto you before, as ye have had so many witnesses, therefore, I beseech of you that ye do not procrastinate the day of your repentance until the end; for after this day of life, which is given us to prepare for eternity, behold, if we do not improve our time while in this life, then cometh the night of darkness wherein there can be no labor performed. 34 Ye cannot say, when ye are brought to that awful crisis, that I will repent, that I will return to my God. Nay, ye cannot say this; for that same spirit which doth possess your bodies at the time that ye go out of this life, that same spirit will have power to possess your body in that eternal world. Historical Setting While he was on his mission, Amulek taught the Zoramites. Doctrinal Teaching Mortal probation this life is given to us to prepare to live in the presence of God; therefore, we must not procrastinate repentance. Missionary Bear testimony that this life is the time to repent and obey the Lord s commandments. Personal Do not put off changing the things in your life that you know you should change. 14

30 Alma 37:6-7 Small Small things from heaven In Alma 37 Picture Description The A for Alma is the little A on the left of the 37. The 37 for the chapter is the Large brick walls 37. In this scripture it tell us that by small and simple things are great things brought to pass. This little man was able to accomplish this great building project one brick at a time. Or one little part at a time. We too can accomplish anything the Lord gives us to do if we will do it one simple thing at a time. Scripture 6 Now ye may suppose that this is foolishness in me; but behold I say unto you, that by small and simple things are great things brought to pass; and small means in many instances doth confound the wise. 7 And the Lord God doth work by means to bring about his great and eternal purposes; and by very small means the Lord doth confound the wise and bringeth about the salvation of many souls. Historical Setting Alma explained the importance of the sacred records and commanded his son Helaman to take charge of them. Doctrinal Teaching Through simple means the Lord confounds the wise and brings to pass great things. Missionary Help investigators appreciate that the Book of Mormon, another witness for Jesus Christ, can change the course of the world. Personal Realize that whether or not you are rich or famous, you can have a great and positive influence on the people around you. 15

This scripture tell us that we should learn wisdom in our youth. The 3 & 7 are learning from their teacher while they are young. Scripture 35 O, remember, my son, and learn wisdom in thy youth; yea, learn in thy youth to keep the commandments of God. Historical Setting Alma counseled his son Helaman about his responsibility to teach the people. Doctrinal Teaching While you are young, learn to keep the commandments. Missionary Explain to nonmember friends why we emphasize teaching the gospel to our children. Personal Learn now to keep the commandments so that they will be part of your nature as you mature in the gospel. 16

34 Alma 41:10 Wickedness Unhappy wicked one In Alma 41 Picture Description This A for Alma is the leaning A on the left. The 41 for the chapter is the 4 (glass of beer) in the right hand and the 1 cigarette in the left hand. This scripture tells us that Wickedness never was happiness. This man is not happy doing the things of the world. He is not in control and able to make the choices he would like because he is in bondage to his physical body appetites. Scripture 10 Do not suppose, because it has been spoken concerning restoration, that ye shall be restored from sin to happiness. Behold, I say unto you, wickedness never was happiness. Historical Setting Alma encouraged his disobedient son Corianton by explaining the principle of restoration. Doctrinal Teaching Resurrection does not change a person s disposition. A wicked person cannot experience lasting happiness. Missionary Teach a new member that wickedness can never result in true happiness. Personal Next time you are tempted to do something you know is wrong, remember that wickedness never leads to lasting happiness. 17

36 Helaman 5:12 Foundation A foundation to survive In Helaman 5 Picture Description The H for Helaman is in the Foundation of the brick wall on the left. The 5 for the chapter is in the foundation of the brick wall to the right. This scripture tells us that we should build our testimony on a sure foundation that will not fail. We should build our testimony on Jesus Christ! Scripture 12 And now, my sons, remember, remember that it is upon the rock of our Redeemer, who is Christ, the Son of God, that ye must build your foundation; that when the devil shall send forth his mighty winds, yea, his shafts in the whirlwind, yea, when all his hail and his mighty storm shall beat upon you, it shall have no power over you to drag you down to the gulf of misery and endless wo, because of the rock upon which ye are built, which is a sure foundation, a foundation whereon if men build they cannot fall. Historical Setting Nephi recounted for his own sons some of the teachings of his father, Helaman. Doctrinal Teaching Satan cannot exercise control over those who are built on the Rock Jesus Christ. Missionary Guide a friend to make the teachings of Jesus Christ his or her foundation. Personal Determine to build your life on Jesus Christ, the only sure foundation. 18

38 3 Nephi 11:29 Contention Contentions not in Heaven In 3 Nephi 11 Picture Description The 3 for the book is the 3 at the left. The N for Nephi is the two fighting men in the middle. The 11 for the chapter is the two fighting men on the right. This scripture tell us that Contention is of the Devil. The arrow points on the 3 indicate the face-to-face confrontation of the world we live in. We are constantly facing this idea of contention. The two sets of fighting men show us that all around us there is contention. But we need to not be like the world. We need to step away from contention! Scripture 29 For verily, verily I say unto you, he that hath the spirit of contention is not of me, but is of the devil, who is the father of contention, and he stirreth up the hearts of men to contend with anger, one with another. Historical Setting The resurrected Savior explained why we should avoid disputations about points of doctrine. Doctrinal Teaching A person who has the spirit of contention is not of the Savior but is of the devil. Missionary When you discuss the gospel with an investigator, do not argue or contend. Personal By controlling your tongue and your feelings, you can cease to be contentious with friends and family. 19

40 3 Nephi 27:27 Example Example from Heaven In 3 Nephi 27 Picture Description The 3 for the book is the top 3 person on the left. The N for Nephi is the N person. The 27 for the chapter is the last two people just behind the Savior. This scripture tell us that we need to follow the example of Christ in our lives. In the picture you will see the footsteps that the Savior is leaving as he walks along. Those that are following him are right behind trying to walk in his footsteps. Scripture 27 And know ye that ye shall be judges of this people, according to the judgment which I shall give unto you, which shall be just. Therefore, what manner of men ought ye to be? Verily I say unto you, even as I am. Historical Setting In His final instructions to the Nephite Twelve, Jesus Christ commanded them to pattern their lives after His life. Doctrinal Teaching The Nephite Twelve were called to judge the Nephites. In order to make just judgments, they had to seek to live as Jesus Christ lived. Missionary Help an investigator realize that Jesus Christ is our model and that with His help we can pattern our lives after Him. Personal Study the life of Jesus Christ and pick out one of His characteristics to develop this week. 20

42 Ether 12:6 Trial Trials and Faith mix In Ether 12:6 Picture Description The E for Ether is in the gavel. The 12 for the chapter is under the gavel. This scripture tells us that we receive no witness until after the trial of our faith. In the picture we see that the gavel is about to pound the 12. or put it thru a trial! In a court of law at the end of a trial the judge pounds the gavel to indicate that the trial is over. It is after the trial is over that the blessing comes!! Scripture 6 And now, I, Moroni, would speak somewhat concerning these things; I would show unto the world that faith is things which are hoped for and not seen; wherefore, dispute not because ye see not, for ye receive no witness until after the trial of your faith. Historical Setting While abridging the prophet Ether s words on faith, Moroni included some of his own testimony, counsel, and understanding about the subject. Doctrinal Teaching A trial of faith precedes a witness of truth. Missionary Teach a nonmember that a trial of faith is essential to a testimony of the gospel of Jesus Christ. Personal Continue in faith, knowing that a testimony will come or that your testimony will increase as you exercise your faith. 21

44 Ether 12:27 Strong Humble yourself In Ether the 12 th Picture Description The E for Ether is the large E in the middle. The 12 for the chapter is the 1 & 2 on the platforms of the E. This scriptures tells us that God gives us weakness so that we can be humble and that if we will humble ourselves we can be made strong. We see the weak little 1 on the top platform and the buff 2 on the bottom platform! The Lord will make all the spiritually weak 1 s into spiritually buff 2 s if they will become humble! Scripture 27 And if men come unto me I will show unto them their weakness. I give unto men weakness that they may be humble; and my grace is sufficient for all men that humble themselves before me; for if they humble themselves before me, and have faith in me, then will I make weak things become strong unto them. Historical Setting In response to Moroni s concern that his readers would mock the weaknesses of his writing, the Lord taught him about personal weaknesses. Doctrinal Teaching Our weaknesses can become strengths if we are humble and have faith in Jesus Christ. Missionary Encourage a friend who is having trouble living the Word of Wisdom to realize that our weaknesses can become strengths. Personal Strive to overcome a weakness and make it a strength by obeying the Savior. 22

46 Moroni 7:16-17 Show A way to judge for heaven In Moroni 7 Picture Description The M for Moroni is in the outstretched arms. (This M is different than the Mosiah M in that this M is found only in the arms the Mosiah M is in the body.) The 7 for the chapter is the body of the man. This scripture tell us that the spirit of Christ is given to every man so that they may judge good from evil. In this picture the man is pointing which way is right and which way is wrong. He knows because the spirit of Christ has told him! Scripture 16 For behold, the Spirit of Christ is given to every man, that he may know good from evil; wherefore, I show unto you the way to judge; for every thing which inviteth to do good, and to persuade to believe in Christ, is sent forth by the power and gift of Christ; wherefore ye may know with a perfect knowledge it is of God. 17 But whatsoever thing persuadeth men to do evil, and believe not in Christ, and deny him, and serve not God, then ye may know with a perfect knowledge it is of the devil; for after this manner doth the devil work, for he persuadeth no man to do good, no, not one; neither do his angels; neither do they who subject themselves unto him. Historical Setting As he neared the end of the record, Moroni included his father Mormon s teachings on the sources of good and evil. Doctrinal Teaching Everything that leads us to do good comes from God. Everything that leads us to do evil comes from the devil. Missionary Bear testimony to a nonmember that Jesus Christ is the source of good and that Satan is the source of evil. Personal Recognize that all good comes of Jesus Christ and all evil comes of the devil. Seek to avoid rationalization in your life. 23
