3 In Our Congregation Regular Worship Schedule to Return September 13 As the school year and our program year begin again, we will return to our regular 8:30 am and 11:00 am worship services on Rally Day, September 13. It was good to all worship together over the summer months, and to enjoy fellowship on the lawn when the weather permitted. Thanks to all who provided hospitality. Please note, we will to return to one service at 9:30 am during the summer months of All Church Picnic - Sunday, September 7th Join us on Rally Day for a picnic and celebration from 12:15pm to 2:00pm on the church lawn! St. Paul members and friends are invited for an afternoon of food, games and fellowship as we kick-off the program year, and you're encouraged to invite friends and neighbors to take part! The church picnic is free and all are welcome to attend. St. Paul members are asked to sign-up in the Narthex in advance to help picnic planners get a count for the burgers/hot dogs/brats/veggie burgers and drinks that are being provided. Please bring a side dish to share. Contact Vanessa with questions! Church Council News Cherie Schumm has been appointed to serve the remaining one year of Howard Weiss' council term. We thank Howard for his energetic service and lift him in prayer as he cares for his mother who moved to Naperville this past spring. We look forward to having Cherie be a part of our leadership team. A reminder to check the Church Council bulleting board in the upstairs hallway just outside of the sanctuary doors. There you will find agendas and minutes from council meetings as well as a copy of the current financial report and a listing of each council member's assignment for the year. You also can find council minutes on our website under "Resources." Acolyte & Crucifers Needed The acolyte and crucifer team is looking for more people to join them! We have had a few members move off to college and are in need of adding to our roster! Help is needed at either service (8:30 or 11:00). Serving as an acolyte or a crucifer during the church service is an easy way to give back to the church community, serving others and the Lord. It s also a great way to keep yourself or your older kids involved and engaged in the service (5 th grade on up). Adults, don t be shy you are welcome too! 4 St. Paul Offering Counters Needed Have you ever successfully balanced your checkbook? Have you ever counted a stack of money twice and gotten the same result both times? Have you ever gone to church and afterwards thought Gosh, I have an extra half hour right now, what can I do with my time? If you answered YES to any of these questions, you may be a good candidate to join the St. Paul church counters! You would only be assigned to one Sunday per month so the time commitment is minimal, and training is available. We will be having a meeting on Sunday, August 30, immediately following worship in Fellowship Hall for anyone who is interested in joining the counting team. We look forward to seeing you! Building Use at St. Paul Any individual or organization wanting to use a room in the church for any function during the program year MUST fill out a yellow room request form and submit it to Kimberly in the church office before September 13. The forms are available near the mailboxes outside the church office. For those of you who prefer to fill out and submit your form electronically, go online to the St. Paul website (stpaulwheaton.org), click on welcome then contact us, and follow the instructions. Rooms are reserved on a firstcome basis. Questions? Call Kimberly, Holy Crafters Cathy Godfrey will lead a craft at Holy Crafters on Monday, September 14, beginning at 6:30 in the Fellowship Hall. Join us! Horseshoe nail crosses have become a popular accessory among jewelry wearers of all ages. We will be making a cross pendant. It is 1-1/2 inches tall and 1 inch wide. It is made of 4 horseshoe nails bent to shape and then wrapped with color coated wire. All materials will be provided. However, if you have a vice-grip pliers please bring it. We can share all tools. Mid-Week Bible Study The Bible and Life: God s Message for Today Find a meaningful connection between your life experience and God s gift of Scripture. Together, we will explore the basic message and point of the Bible, how it serves as a means of divine grace for your life, and its use as a guide in life and faith.
