A Seussical Christmas Spectacle The scene opens the narrator (dressed as the cat in the hat) The stable is lit up and the nativity family are there. Ready and waiting. Asleep in the corner is a star. Cool and laid back. Scene 1 Narrator: Oh, the places you ll go, Oh the things that you ll see At the <Insert your church/group/school here> Nativity We ve got shepherds galore And Kings through the roof Surprises in store And a little hidden truth There re words for you to say, so please pay attention and also, some glow sticks with angelic intention The star and the angel will soon lead the way They re in a fight, who ll save the day? They ll be our guides through the Christmas story A story which people agree changed all of history So, sit back and enjoy our cute little show And help yourself to a gift before you go (If you don t have gifts for the kids you can say) and have some Christmas cheer before you go Joseph: I m so excited to meet the lad I m such a blessed man to be his dad Mary: He ll come when he s ready, don t worry and fret I m not sure when, but it s definitely not yet Joseph: I m sorry we ended up in this shed This place smells like something s dead Mary: It s the best we could find with the census it s mad With a visitor or two it won t be half bad. Narrator: Our couple got settled and the baby was born This was not all that happened that Christmas morn. Song: Once in Royal David City Scene 2 Narrator: Meanwhile up in space, time was getting tight None of the guests had Bethlehem in sight There was more distance to go for our traveling kings So here with the star is where our story begins Star: I hope you didn t mind my snoring; I find this job very boring! I just stand here and keep the sky ablaze, I ve been waiting now for many days, I m just wondering what I need to say 1 of 6
To get these mystic humans on their way If they don t leave soon the angel will fuss, And make me send a minibus! Maybe if I send a cosmic shower, They ll get on their way within the hour. The Angel enters tapping her watch. Angel: They were meant to leave yesterday; the baby is due! If they get there late it s all down to you. Narrator: The star knew the Kings needed to get on their way Long before the Angel had her say You see He s a bit of a laid-back guy He s been up there for decades painting the sky It just so happened there was a burst of power And the star exploded in a cosmic shower The Kings noticed him shining in the sky that day; They reached a consensus and got on their way! The Kings enter and look at the star. They admire its magnificence and speak mystically. King 1: I ve never seen a star so bright, It s changing history with gentle might! King 2: My studies tell me, this star brings power, A king is coming, over death he will tower! King 3: A king born to change the entire human race; He ll be found in a splendid place! King 1: I m not sure about that; but we ll follow this star, We ll see where it takes us, but it might be far. We better leave quickly and get gifts on the way. I ll take the Frankincense I bought t other day. King 2: I think your gift is weird, but I ll be bold I m taking six teaspoons made of gold King 3: And I ll pack the camel and bring some myrrh As far as directions to you I ll defer Star: At last they ve done it I have got them to leave I know the welcome they ll receive Angel: Your job s not done yet mate you ve got more to do Watch me and my helpers the shepherds we ll pursue Song: We Three Kings 2 of 6
Scene 3: The shepherds arrive with some little lambs. They are pretending to be asleep. One little lamb (a cute one) waits at the side of the stage. Narrator: It was finally the angel s time to shine She was right on cue and it was fine Shepherd 1: We ll sleep here tonight the sheep need some rest And our wolf wrestling skills won t be put to the test 1 sheep two sheep red sheep blue I ve got all mine, how about you? Shepherd 2: Big sheep, little sheep and the two in-between There s nine over there; I ve got my thirteen There s one more to see a lamb so sweet Come here little one and give me a bleat The cute lamb runs to the shepherd and baaaas in a cute way. Shepherd 1: Your math s is quite dodgy, but I m done for the day Let s get some rest; they won t run away! Narrator: The shepherds lay down to rest their heads They slept outside not in cozy, warm beds It was cold and still on the hill that night Then along came an angel all shiny and bright Angel: Do not be afraid my shepherd friends! I bring good news. I m the one the Lord sends. To tell you the truth about a boy in a stable. The King over all, to free slaves he is able. Shepherd 1: Am I dreaming or is this something quite freaky? Shepherd 2: If you re playing a trick this is very sneaky Angel: This isn t a trick and I m not being odd Good news! He s arrived, He s the son of God! If you go to Bethlehem, and look for a manger You ll find a new born king who welcomes every stranger. Narrator: Get ready everyone it s your turn to speak A congregation quite angelic. The lights go out and everyone waves their glow sticks. These words need to be spoken by the narrator as well as the congregation Congregation: Glory to God! Heaven and Earth reunited. the whole of nature is growing excited! Peace on earth, goodwill to men; We ll say those words again and again! 3 of 6
Glory to God! Heaven and Earth reunited. the whole of nature is growing excited Peace on earth goodwill to men We ll say those words again and again. Song: While Shepherds watched their flocks by night Scene 4 The Shepherds arrive in the nativity scene and sit down around the manger. The Shepherds and Mary and Joseph pantomime this business. Narrator: The Shepherds arrived and said their piece, Mary wrapped Jesus in a newly shorn fleece. Joseph taught them a trick or two About counting sheep both read and blue. The Shepherds were all delighted to see A baby boy sleeping peacefully. Meanwhile, in a galaxy far faraway. Our star is not having a very good day. Star: They re on their way, that s all I can say Hand on my heart, I ve done my part Angel: You had one job! You gassy blob! And look what you ve done, Gone and spoiled the fun! You should be glad I m here to help out If you messed this up even God would shout Star: Chill your beans and calm yourself down, They re on their way to Bethlehem town! I m minding my business gently guiding their way Tell me what s made you worry and sway Angel: Here s something to wipe the smile from your face You ve directed them to the wrong place It doesn t appear that you are able, To help them reach the King in the stable Herod enters and starts pacing up and down looking quite evil. Star: Well Shooting Stars! I showed them where to search. I told them where to go didn t I church? (Pantomime style Oh Yes you did, oh no you didn t.) Narrator: It s true! it seems the kings had lost their way, But Good King Herod was there to save the day. They arrived at the door of Herod the King And rang the doorbell ting a ling ling. 4 of 6
King 1: We saw a star in the sky, a different star, a handsome guy! King 2: It called us on the road to see A baby born with destiny King 3: It seemed to lead us to your place We d like to meet him, face to face All Kings: We ve brought him gifts and promises true This is the palace, is he with you? Herod: (Aside)I do not like these Kings from Turkey I do not like their outfits, QUIRKY I am the only King around here I am the one for whom the people cheer I do not like this other king I do not like the gifts they bring I will not touch their gold and myrrh I hate frankincense blech! and Grrrrr! I will not listen to their dreams I will manipulate their schemes Herod crosses over to the Kings and puts on a simpering kind voice Herod: Welcome to my humble home Where have you come from? Where do you roam? King 1: It happened one night King 2: On a Tuesday in May King 3: The sky was so bright Together: We couldn t look away Kings 2: It seemed to call us, to follow a stream We left in a hurry and followed the beam King 3 The star we saw shining led us here We thought you might help us share the cheer Herod: I am afraid, that I am not able To say this is more than a fable There s no baby here with such a story I m the only one here with any glory However, if you find him in Bethlehem Promise me you ll return again I d like to see this baby so sweet A cute little boy, oh what a treat Narrator: And so, the kings left to look for the babe Who was destined for greatness from cradle to grave But Herod wasn t a good king after all 5 of 6
In fact, his heart was two sizes too small So, The Kings slept at an inn for the night A dream came and warned them to take a quick flight And so, they moved away from danger Towards the true king, the one in the manger Song: Oh, come all ye faithful! Scene 5: The Kings have arrived in the nativity scene and it is complete. The star and the angel reluctantly shake hands and the narrator puts his arms around them. Star: It seems that we both had to play a part Guiding people here from wherever they start! Angel: It s true our methods are not the same But I know we are playing the same game Narrator: From different routes, the visitors came to see the lad of Christmas Fame. I want to say I m glad you came, And our journeys today are much the same. Whether you re a shepherd or a king A doctor, a dustman or any other thing From different places our God is able, To guide our paths to the King in the stable 6 of 6
