Jones was born in Baltimore, Maryland and he and his wife, Mary Anne Harvey Jones (d. 1873), emigrated to Iowa in the 1860s. The photographs of the Jones and related families were passed down to the donor, Jones great-granddaughter. The collection is housed in one box arranged in folders by subject. Materials include tintypes, carte de visites, cabinet cards, photographic prints, and a daguerreotype. Folder 1 contains some biographical information on the Jones family. Folder 2 contains photographs, ca , from an album belonging to Grishington Spicer Jones, Sr., A few of the pictures are identified on the back; most were taken in Baltimore, Maryland.
