In Lessns 31 and 32 we cmmenced ur study f whether r nt the Bible teaches its wn preservatin by lking at Psalm 12:6-7. Last week in Lessn 33, we cnsidered a cluster f verses regarding preservatin fund in Psalm 119. In this lessn, I wuld like t cnsider the impact f Isaiah 30:8 upn the dctrine f preservatin. Isaiah 30:8 Much f the relevant literature n the tpic f preservatin des nt include any discussin f this verse. In my mind this is unfrtunate because this verse speaks t why Gd wuld have smething written dwn and nted in a bk. The purpse and intent f ding s is explicitly stated in verse 8, that it may be fr the time t cme fr ever and ever. This was Gd s mtivatin fr any f the wrds He had written dwn under inspiratin. When Gd talks abut preserving His wrds, He is talking abut preserving His wrds that are written n the page in a bk. (Jrdan, MSS 101 Lessn 9) The use f the wrd bk in Isaiah 30:8 is imprtant. The Hebrew wrd (cepher) translated bk ccurs 184 times in 174 verses in the Hebrew Old Testament. One hundred thirty eight (138) times the King James translatrs rendered the wrd as bk in English. As Gd prgressively gave His wrd t Israel in time past, the text prtrays the human authrs as writing a bk and subsequently adding t it as mre scripture is written dwn. 2 2 Exdus 24:4 what did Mses write in the bk? All the wrds. Exdus 24:7 Mses reads the bk f the cvenant in verse 7. What was in the bk f the cvenant? The wrds that Mses wrte in verse 4. Deuternmy 29:20-21, 27 what is written in this bk in verse 20? The wrds that Mses wrte dwn (Exdus 24:4). Why did Gd want Mses t write them dwn? S, that they wuld be an everlasting memrial (Exdus 17:14) f what Gd said. Deuternmy 31:24-26 what was Mses writing in the bk f the law? The wrds that Gd wanted Israel t remember fr ever. The bk f the law included Genesis thrugh Deuternmy. Jshua 1:8 after the death f Mses, Jshua emphasizes the imprtance f the bk f the law. Jshua 24:26 Jshua is adding t the wrds written by Mses. I Samuel 10:25 Samuel is adding t the bk started by Mses and expanded by Jshua. I Kings 14:19 references the bk f the chrnicles f the Kings f Israel. II Kings 14:6 the wrds written in the bk f the law were still in existence at the time that II Kings was written. II Chrnicles 24:27 speaks f the wrds written in the stry f the bk f the kings. Psalm 40:7 the bk is made up f bks. Isaiah 34:16 the bk f the Lrd. Jeremiah 30:2 Jeremiah is tld t write the wrds in a bk. Jeremiah 36:2, 8, 11, 32; 51:60 recall that Daniel came t understand by bks that the Babylnian captivity wuld last seventy years. One f the bks that Daniel read was the bk f Jeremiah. S Daniel had access t what was written dwn despite nt pssessing the riginal manuscript. This is why Gd wanted His wrd nted in a bk s that it culd be fr ever and ever. Isaiah 59:20 is a reference t the Secnd Cming f Christ. Regarding the implicatins f Isaiah 59:20 n the dctrine f preservatin, Brther Jrdan stated the fllwing in Grace Schl f the Bible: He is talking abut the peple in the millennium. They have the wrd that Gd put in their muth back in Isaiah (the Old Testament) and He says, Even after the millennium, my wrd is still ging t last frever and ever. Flks, if the millennium is 2000 AD plus and Isaiah is 700 BC, yu have preservatin fr 2700 years right there demanded in the text in rder t meet the qualificatins f the text. Gd said, I put the wrds in yur muth (Isaiah) and wrte them dwn in a bk t be there fr ever, and they will be available at the Secnd Advent f Christ, and they will even cntinue after that. That is preservatin. If I can demnstrate, in the bible, that in the millennium Gd says His wrd is ging t be present, then I can sure demnstrate the fact that it is smewhere in the dispensatin f grace. If Gd will have His wrd in the millennium, He is ging t preserve it thrugh the time befre the millennium. (Jrdan, MSS 101 Lessn 9) Isaiah 29:18-19 And in that day (the millennium) shall the deaf hear the wrds f the bk, and the eyes f the blind shall see ut f bscurity, and ut f darkness. 19) The meek als shall increase their jy in the LORD, and the pr amng men shall rejice in the Hly One f Israel. In that Kingdm, when the deaf hear, they will hear the wrds f the bible that Isaiah is tld t write dwn. Gd is ging t preserve that bk. That is the dctrine f preservatin; that is Gd s prmise t preserve his wrd. (Jrdan, MSS 101 Lessn 9) Isaiah 30:8 Gd tld Isaiah t write His wrds in a bk s that they wuld be available fr the deaf t hear read t them in the millennium. Regarding thse wh deny the dctrine f preservatin Brther Jrdan stated: When yu are studying preservatin, yu are nt studying a figment f sme fellw s imaginatin wh just likes t run ff at the muth withut studying. There are a lt f real simple peple in the wrld wh believe in the preservatin f the scripture. They believe that they have the preserved wrd f Gd, but they d nt have all f that fancy schlarship and infrmatin. They just have faith t believe that Gd Almighty has preserved His wrd. Practical Reasns fr Writing a Bk The fllwing is a list f practical reasns, cvered in Grace Schl f the Bible fr why Gd wrte and preserved a bk. T preserve the riginal revelatin. Can yu imagine hw cnfusing and slppy it wuld get if yu were just passing n ral cmmunicatin? If yu get a line f peple and whisper smething in smene s ear at the beginning f the line and then he whispers it int the next persn s ear and s n, by the time it reaches the last persn, it will be smething entirely different. Nw can yu imagine hw it wuld g if yu had ral traditin t keep passing dwn the wrd f Gd. Yu never wuld knw if yu had it right r nt. Gd wanted His revelatin preserved in a bk. He writes the thing dwn and gives it t his secretary and says, G read it t the king. It is independent f him. Paul says in 2 Timthy 2:9 Wherein I suffer truble, as an evil der, even unt bnds; but the wrd f Gd is nt bund. He said, They have me in jail like a criminal, but the wrd f Gd is nt bund.
