2 Revelation 13:1 And I stood upon the sand of the sea, and saw a beast rise up out of the sea, having seven heads and ten horns, and upon his horns ten crowns, and upon his heads the names of blasphemy..

3 1. Sea represents people s, multitudes, nation s and tongues Revelation 17: Beasts represent political powers as seen in Daniel 7:17 3. Heads represent lines of rulers within that political power, and heads come after the body represented in a vision, an example is in Daniel 7 - the leopard with four heads representing the third world kingdom, Greece, under Alexander the Great. After he died, four of his generals divided the Greek empire into four parts represented by four heads on the leopard. 4. Blasphemy - the claim to forgive sins or the claim to be God (Matthew 9:1-7, Matthew 26:64-65, Mark 2:7, John 10:33).

4 Since the protestant reformation, this beast of Revelation 13 has been identified as the political power of the Papacy, or Papal power in Europe as it arose among the populations of Europe and its claim to be the Vicar of God on earth with it s claim to forgive sin. The beast itself represented the combination of the church with the power of the state. This had to be so because the church had supposedly changed the law of God (which cannot be changed). They needed the power of the state to enforce their will because there were those who recognized from their study of the Bible that the claim of the church (that they had the right to change God s law) was false. This challenged the power of the church, which the church hated, so they used the power of the state to destroy opposition to their false claim.

5 Revelation 13:2 And the beast which I saw was like unto a leopard, and his feet were as the feet of a bear, and his mouth as the mouth of a lion: and the dragon gave him his power, and his seat, and great authority. Leopard body - Papal Rome Mouth of lion Feet of bear The Dragon gives him his power, seat, and great authority. This Leopard beast has all the parts of the beasts in Daniel 7, the lion, bear, and leopard. Papal Rome absorbed the religious and cultural characteristics of the previous kingdoms of Babylon, Persia, Greece, and Rome, and consequently behaves in a manner similar to them. The body of a leopard suggests great intelligence, careful planning, and great battle skills, characteristics that the Papacy often displayed. What behaviors do the feet of a bear and the mouth of a lion suggest to you?

6 Revelation 13:2 And the dragon (Satan working through Pagan Rome) gives the beast (Papal Power + state) his power, seat (capital of Rome), and great authority (the decree of Justinian making the pope head bishop over all bishops in the Christian world and giving him power to punish heresy through the state). The Beast represents the The Dragon represents Satan political power of the Papal working through Political government. It IS church governments to destroy Jesus and his people. and state combined. Revelation 12 tells us that he worked first through Pagan Rome, and later Papal Rome. Pagan Rome gave it s capital to the Bishops of Rome when Constantine, a Roman emperor, was converted to Christianity and moved to Constantinople. As he left Rome, he gave Rome to the pope.

7 Revelation 13:2 The dragon gives him (the beast) his power, his seat (capital), and great authority. Revelation 12: 9 The dragon Represents Satan. Revelation 12:4 The dragon stood before the woman to devour her child as soon as it was born. And her child is caught up to the throne. Here we see the dragon (Satan) working through Pagan Rome to destroy Christ, the messiah, at his birth. Herod attempted to kill Jesus at birth. Satan works through Pagan Rome to kill Jesus at Birth. Satan works through Pagan Rome. The capital of Pagan Rome was given to Papal Rome after Constantine was converted to Christianity. Rome became the capital of the Bishops of Rome.

8 Revelation 13:3 And I saw one of his heads (names of a ruler) as it were wounded to death: and his deadly wound was healed: and all the world wondered after the beast. Heads represent the names of rulers within the political power represented by the beast in a vision. The beast represented in this vision is Papal Rome, one of the heads would be a name since Papal Rome is a Monarchy using names to identify its rulers. So one Monarchy name of the Papal power is affected (is wounded as if to death) but this same Monarchy name returns to power (is healed). In 1798 Pius VI was removed from Rome and died at the hands of the French in In 1929 Pius XI was reinstated back to Rome notice the same name or head. In 1929 the Vatican was restored back to the Pope as a separate nation. One head wounded and heals.

9 Revelation 13:3 And I saw one his heads wounded to death and his deadly wound was healed; and all the world wondered after the beast. This is linked with: Rev 13:14 And deceiveth them that dwell on the earth by the means of those miracles which he had power to do in the sight of the beast; saying to them that dwell on the earth, that they should make an image to the beast, which had the wound by a sword, and did live. Which is linked with: Revelation 13:10 He that leadeth into captivity shall go into captivity: he that killeth with the sword must be killed with the sword. By linking these three statements in Revelation, we see Pius VI was the head captured by Napoleon in He died at the hands of the French in 1799, then in 1929 Rome was returned to Pope Pius XI. Since 1929 there has been a steady increase in the Papal Power that continues to the present.

10 How do we know that the head wound had to have occurred to Pius VI? Revelation 13 does not appear to say that the wound occurred after the end of the 1260 days, after the beast went into restraint, so why does this prophecy apply to Pius VI? In other words, there is no apparent date attached to the head wound, so how can we know it must apply to Pius VI? This question has been expounded upon by a Catholic web site ( 0.htm), in which they argue that the 1260 year prophecy cannot apply to the Catholic Church because there were three prior captures and deaths of popes BEFORE 1798, all of which can completely fulfill the prophecy in Revelation 13:10. So, how do we know that this prophecy must apply to Pope Pius VI, and therefore still applies to the Catholic Church?

11 These are the three prior captures and deaths of popes recorded in Papal history after 538 AD (listed on the Catholic Web site mentioned in the slide previous): Pope Vigilius was held under house arrest for eight years by Emperor Justinian from AD, and he finally died in captivity. Pope Martin I was arrested in 651 AD by Emperor Constans II and was sentenced to death. He died in captivity. In 1303 AD, France's King Phillip's troops captured Pope Boniface VIII. He was eventually released, but died soon after the ordeal, probably because of harsh conditions that the body of an old man could not withstand, conditions which he was forced to endure while in captivity. So, as a result of history, we must still ask, how do we know that the prophecy must apply to Pope Pius VI? Their objection is valid by all appearances.

12 Several factors can demonstrate that the prophecy MUST apply to Pope Pius VI. The prophecy of Revelation 13 in general is in a first to last sequence. That is, the story of the Papal beast is presented first as a segment of prophecy, then the earth beast is presented as the second segment. The capture and killing statement is part of the first segment, but is at the end of the first segment between the two beasts. Within each segment, the events are not necessarily sequential, but the general outline of the chapter is sequential (the first beast comes on the scene first, THEN the second beast arrives later). The wound is to a head and not to the body. Since the body represents time from March of 538 AD to Feb. 15, 1798 AD, and the heads must represent time AFTER the beast went into restraint, then this indicates that the wound MUST occur after the beast went into restraint.

13 The killing and capture being sandwiched between the first and second beasts strongly suggests that the killing and capture must occur roughly between the time represented by the body of these two beasts, but it does not prove it. However, it s connection with the first segment of the chapter rules out the shooting of Pope John Paul II as having fulfilled this prophecy because this event occurred long after the second beast had arrived. Also, the fact that the wound to the head must occur AFTER Feb. 15, 1798 indicates that the three prior captures and killings of popes have no relation to this particular capture and killing in the prophecy or the wound to the head. They occurred before Feb. 15, 1798, and this capture and killing of Pope Pius VI occurred AFTER that date (which, as it happened, was on Feb. 20, 1798). The heads began their time on Feb 15, 1798, so the capture and killing had to occur after that date because the wound is to a head, not the body. We can clearly conclude that the wound to the head MUST apply to the capture and killing of Pope Pius VI. Nothing else can apply.

14 Revelation 13:4 And they worshipped the dragon which gave power unto the beast: and they worshipped the beast, saying, who is like unto the beast? Who is able to make war with him? This will be literally fulfilled. Satan will be worshipped as God when, in the future (the writing of this is April, 2004), Satan impersonates Christ. The statement and they worshipped the beast comes from Revelation 13:8 And all that dwell upon the earth shall worship him (the beast), whose names are not written in the book of life of the lamb slain from the foundation of the world. The act of worship is to be enforced world wide, this act of worship acknowledges the Papal power.

15 Revelation 13:5 And there was given unto him a mouth speaking great things and blasphemies; and power was given unto him to continue forty and two months. Daniel 7:25 The little horn speaks great words against the most high God, he wears out the saints of the most high, and thinks to change time s and law s. and they shall be given unto his hands for a time, time s and dividing of time s.

16 The term time, times, and dividing of time is something that was understood in Daniel s day to refer to a year, 2 years, and half a year. These years were of 360 days in length, so 31/2 X 360 days = 1260 days = 42 months of 30 days each. How do we know that the prophetic years were 360 days in length? To answer that question, compare Daniel 7:25 to Revelation 12:6 and Revelation 12:14 to understand this, for there 1260 days is made equal to 3-1/2 times.

17 Little horn of Daniel 7:25 and the first beast of Revelation 13 are the same power, the Papacy. Both are identified by (there is more, but we show only the 5 strongest characteristics here): 1. Speaking great words against the most high (a form of blasphemy). 2. Wear out (destroy) the saints of the most high God. 3. Continued in power for 1260 prophetic years (3-1/2 prophetic years or 42 months). 4. Coming out of or originating from Rome (the talking horn arising on the head of the 4th beast of Daniel 7 or the dragon giving the leopard beast his seat the dragon is credited with activities of Rome, so he instigated giving Rome to the Papacy). 5. Attempting to change the law of God (In Rev. 13, this is said to be blasphemy against the temple, which contains the law of God, while in Daniel 7, it is said this power would think to change times, such as the Sabbath day, and laws, which are other parts of the law of God).

18 Although the pope was in Rome prior to its decreed power over Europe in 538 AD, it was not set up over Europe until Justinian s decree that the pope is head bishop over all other bishops in Christian lands and has the power to prosecute heresy, which he could define as he wished, was enforceable. This decree became enforceable in March of 538 AD when the Ostrogoth's were driven out of Rome. This gave the pope power over the nations of Europe as all European kings were Catholic.

19 Revelation 13:5 Power given to continue 42 months. Months total the following in days. There are 30 days in a prophetic year (defined in the Bible), so 30 days x 42 months equals 1260 days, or in prophecy 1260 prophetic years. 360 days in 1 prophetic year / 12 = 30 days in a month 30 days = 1 month 42 months x 30 days = 1260 days 1260 days = 1260 prophetic years The Papacy s decreed power began in March of 538, its decreed death took place on Feb 15, 1798, exactly 1260 prophetic years of allotted rule which God gave the Papal power.

20 Revelation 13:9 - If any man have an ear, let him hear. Revelation 13:10 - He that leadeth into captivity shall go into captivity: he that killeth with the sword must die by the sword. Here is the patients of the saints. For 1260 prophetic years the Papal power ruled by decree from 538 AD to 1798 AD. The saints waited a long time for the Papal power to be held in check. After the decree of Feb. 15, 1798, which ended the Papal rule, the rest of the prophecy concerning the first beast was fulfilled when Pius VI was captured by the French army on Feb. 20, 1798, and he died in prison in August of He fulfilled the prophecy because he was led into captivity after the beast went away, and as a result, he died by the sword (Well, he was captured at the point of a sword wasn t he? That is what usually happens when a person is arrested for a crime). Further, the subject matter just prior to Revelation 13:10 is the beast (and the subject matter does not change with this verse), and as head of the beast until it was removed, it was seen by the authorities of the time to be only fitting that he be held responsible. Since 1798 the Papacy has not regained its lost supremacy and has been restrained by God during this time.

21 End of Part 1. Time for a break?

22 Revelation 13:11 And I beheld another beast coming up out of the earth; and he had two horns like a lamb, and he spake as a dragon. Another political power arises from the earth, not seas as the other beasts. Coming up out of the earth represents a political power coming slowly to power among previously unpopulated areas of the earth. Its horns are like a lamb. Christ is represented by the lamb in Scripture. This power is Christian in nature.

23 Beast with Lamb-like horns United States of America After the capture of Pius VI and the decreed death of the Papal power in 1798, John the revelator sees another political power rising from an unpopulated area of the earth, and it s Christian in nature, as can be seen by the lamb horns. This beast then speaks like the devil (dragon). To speak is to legislate decrees into power, and in this case, those originating from Satan. The fact that this beast arises AFTER the prophecies about the leopard beast of the 42 months time period, tells the reader that this beast must also arise in history about or just after the end of the power of the beast. Thus, the United States is the power this prophecy refers to. earth

24 Some wonder what the horns on the earth beast (the beast with the 2 lamb-like horns that comes up out of the earth) represent. You can use the principle of progression from the body to the heads to the horns to help answer this. The United States arose from the American Revolution against Britain in 1783, though the war was all but over in Britain had a difficult time during this time period because it was fighting wars all over the world at that time.

25 The United States initially arose as a federation of states, with a weak central government. There was an agreement between the states that governed the activities of the federal government, but there was no bill of rights or legal separation between the church and state. This structure did not work, so in 1787, the national government asked the states to send representatives to a convention to amend the constitution that then existed. The men who went to this constitutional convention looked over the original constitution and decided to start over. It appeared to difficult to simply amend it and therefore better to simply start from the beginning and write an entirely new constitution. So, they set to work.

26 The results of their work is still evident for the world to see. It is the current constitution of the United States government, with a strong bill of rights as the first 10 amendments to the constitution. The new constitution went into effect shortly after the constitutional convention was ended and has remained in effect ever since. But this constitution changed the structure of the national government into a federal structure, and separated the twin powers of church and state for the first time in a formal way. The United States has ever since been controlled by these twin powers, the church and state. The church influences the populace but cannot control the state, punish heresy, or make or enforce criminal or civil laws. The state cannot control the churches, punish heresy, determine doctrine, or force people to believe one way or another. It is to keep it s hands off the churches.

27 So, using the principle of progression from the body to the heads to the horns as a principle of interpretation, one can see that the earth beast consists of a body, which occurs first, then the 2 horns must occur after. This means the body would represent the United States as it was originally formed in 1781, and continuing until the new constitution was written and put into effect. The 2 horns, meanwhile, represent the twin powers of church (Protestantism largely) and state (republicanism since America is a republic), which have held power in this country ever since 1787 when the constitution was ratified and put into effect.

28 Revelation 13 describes the beast with the two horns as speaking like a dragon (remember who the original dragon was?). So, a change is coming. This nation, which is Christian in nature, will begin to speak like the devil himself. For a nation to speak in prophecy, is for it to legislate laws. For evidence of this, see Daniel 3 when the king spoke a command, it was a law and also see Revelation 13:15, where the image beast speaks and it results in those who will not worship the image beast to be killed, thus suggesting legislative action is at the heart of the speaking of a nation.

29 Thus, someday the United States will legislate laws that originate from Satan himself to make an image to the original beast, which Satan himself had given a seat and empowered (see Revelation 13:2). The original beast was the combination of church and state with decreed powers, so likewise, the image beast should be a reflection or a likeness of the original beast. The time of the two horns has continued for some 200 plus years as of the writing of this (in April, 2004), but this behavior will change and the two horns will again combine to form something new the image beast which apparently replaces the original earth beast.

30 Revelation 13:12 And he (United States of America) exerciseth all the power of the first beast before him (Papal), and causeth the earth and them which dwell therein to worship the first beast (Papal), whose deadly wound was healed. Here we see the USA by legislation forcing all who live on the earth to worship the Papacy. This is an enforced act of worship by paying the Papacy homage. The wounded head has healed prior to this enforced act of worship to pay homage to the Papacy.

31 Revelation 13:12 He exerciseth all the power of the first beast before him. (church and state) The first beast was the leopard beast coming up out of the sea representing the Papal power. The papacy during the 1260 years was a church and state system. For the earth beast with lamb-like horns to exercise this same power, the United States of America (USA) will have to develop another church and state system with a legislated day of worship (Sunday), just like the original beast did.

32 Revelation 13:12 - and causes the earth and them that dwell therein to worship the first beast whose deadly wound was healed. Revelation 13:3 - one of the heads on the beast (Papal) power was wounded to death but healed. Revelation 13:10 - referring to the beast power being captured and dying. Pius VI was captured by the French in 1798, and died in their hands in August of The head Pius XI regained the Vatican as a separate state in Rome in This head, Pius, was to heal prior to the Papacy regaining control over the world once again. Since 1929 the Papacy has gained world wide influence, a process that will continue until it regains world power, which is yet future (as of April, 2004).

33 An alternate idea on the healing of the head is that the original wounding was the removal of a Pope Pius from the throne (one of the heads, which represents the names of the popes), so to restore or heal this head, a Pope Pius must be put back on the Papal throne, which would reverse what was done when Pope Pius VI was yanked from his throne, hauled off to jail, and allowed to die in jail in August of The very next year in the spring of 1800, the cardinals elected another pope. This pope selected the name Pope Pius VII. It restored the Pope Pius head by restoring the name Pius to the Papal throne. Could this have been the healing? Something to think about.

34 Revelation 13:13 And he (USA) doeth great wonders so that he maketh fire come down from heaven on the earth in the sight of men. This Christian nation is to perform wonders upon the earth - even bringing down fire from heaven. This is probably literal, but it may be symbolic of some sort of miraculous event. But the language here describing such an event, would be strongly reminiscent of the true prophet of God, Elijah, who called fire down from heaven to prove that his God was the true God and for punishment (see 1 Kings 18 and 2 Kings 1). Thus, this is to prove that God is supposedly behind what they will do. But this time it is a deception. God is NOT behind their acts, and instead Satan is the source of the miracles they will perform. For this reason, for the rest of Revelation, this power is referred to as the false prophet, for it brings fire down from heaven just like the true prophet Elijah, but it does not know God and therefore is a false prophet. USA as a Christian nation to perform great wonders such as calling down fire from heaven.

35 Revelation 13:14 And deceiveth them that dwell on the earth by the means of those miracles, which he (Christian USA) had power to do in the sight of the beast (Papacy which will be coming back by that time). Saying to them that dwell on the earth that they should make an image (a copy of the Church and State system) to the beast (Papacy), which had a wound by the sword and did live (this indicates that the healing of the head wound has already occurred by the time of this campaign to form the image to the beast). Miracles are done by Christians in America to deceive it s inhabitants into developing a church and state system world wide. The healing of the head wound on the beast is now past history, so we only now need to see the development of a church and state system here in America and world wide, and the regaining of the Papacy s lost supremacy.

36 Revelation 13:15 And he (USA) had power to give life unto the image of the beast ( Church and State system), that the image to the beast (Church and state system) should both speak ( Legislate into law ) and cause as many as would not worship ( by honoring their day of worship, Sunday ) the image of the beast ( Church and State system ) should be killed. Those refusing to honor Sunday as the day of worship in this coming church and state system are to be killed. This is predicting religious intolerance on the part of the United States of America, and this is to spread to all nations as we see a world wide church and state system develop with enforced Sunday worship.

37 The previous slide indicated that Sunday worship will be part of acknowledging the authority of the beast and it s image. How do we know that worshipping on Sunday is the sign of allegiance to the beast or it s image? Every power on earth has some means of testing the loyalty of it s citizens when that is needed. The Papal powers are no exception of that. Even God has his test, for he says if you love me, keep my commandments (John 14:15). But His greatest test is the Sabbath for in that commandment is the mark of the authority of God. It says, like any legal seal of a government, the source of authority, the territory over which it rules, and gives the power it has. The fourth commandment, the Sabbath commandment, tells us that God is the creator (which gives the source of authority, which is who he is, and the power he has as creator of everything), and the territory he rules over (everything in the world). See Exodus 20:8-11 for evidence of this.

38 It is clear from the last half of Revelation 13 that some situation has arisen in which a loyalty test is perceived to be required. This is evidenced by the fact that those who worship the beast or his image, will receive the mark of the beast, the number of his name, or the name of the beast. These are economic sanctions designed to ensure compliance with the law and to test who is loyal to the beast or it s image. Those who have these identifying marks, numbers, or name of the beast, will be able to buy and sell. Those who lack these things, will not be able to buy or sell. It will be that simple. This has an identification system built into it to identify those loyal to the powers enforcing this law. This is evidenced by the fact that those who have the identifying marks, numbers, or name of the beast will be able to buy and sell. Thus, it serves to tell merchants who they can legally sell to and buyers who they can legally buy from. The significant thing here is that it serves to identify those willing to acknowledge the authority of the beast or his image, but does NOT serve to identify the beast itself, unlike the number 666 which is for that very purpose.

39 While we don t yet know all the details of this identification system (mark, number, name), you can be quite sure that since the beast and his image involve worship, then the TIME, PLACE, STYLE of worship, and WHO is worshipped, will be legislated as part of the requirements of the law. Every government, when it enacts laws, tends to be quite thorough in mandating the specific requirements that must be met to fulfill the law. Thus, these requirements will be part of this law governing spiritual activity.

40 The Papal powers have their own mark of authority, the source of their power, and the territory over which they rule. Here is what their own words say about their power: They "dispense with the command of Christ???" When the Catholic church is asked..."why do you feel you have the power, authority and ability to change Scripture to match your traditions?" They answer... "Had she not such power, she could not have done that in which all modern religionists agree with her; --she could not have substituted the observance of Sunday the first day of the week, for the observance of Saturday the seventh day, a change for which there is no Scriptural authority." -Rev. Stephan Keenan, A Doctrinal Catechism, "On the Obedience Due to the Church," chap. 2, p (Imprimatur, John Cardinal McCloskey, archbishop of New York.) "The authority of the church could therefore not be bound to the authority of the Scriptures, because the Church had changed...the Sabbath into Sunday, not by command of Christ, but by its own authority." Canon and Tradition, p. 263

41 Here in their own words are the territory over which they rule: "[It is error to believe that] Kings and princes are not only exempt from the jurisdiction of the Church, but are superior to the Church in deciding questions of jurisdiction." Pope Pius IX, The Syllabus (of Errors), Issued in 1864, Section VI, Errors About Civil Society, Considered Both in Itself and in its Relation to the Church, #54. "Hence the Pope is crowned with a triple crown, as king of heaven and of earth and of the lower regions (infernorum)." That is all inclusive for it would include every government in the world. So, they are claiming authority over the entire world and every person in it.

42 But by what authority do they do this? Let us hear their own words again for the answer to this question: These words appeared in the Roman Canon Law: "To believe that our Lord God the Pope has not the power to decree as he is decreed, is to be deemed heretical.-i?i the Gloss "Extravagantes" o.f Pope John XXII Cum inter, Tit. XIV, Cap. IV. Ad Callem Sexti Decretalium, Paris, Writers on the Canon Law say, "The Pope and God are the same, so he has all power in heaven and earth."- Barclay Cap. XXVII, p Cities Petrus Bertrandus, Pius V. - Cardinal Cusa supports his statement. "The pope is of so great dignity and so exalted that he is not a mere man (...) he is as it were God on earth, sole sovereign of the faithful of Christ, chief of kings, having plenitude of power." -Lucius Ferraris, «Prompta Bibliotheca», 1763, Volume VI, 'Papa II', pp The source of their authority is their claim to be God. Can one claim any higher authority? Can one commit greater blasphemy when God has plainly said I am the LORD: that is my name: and my glory will I not give to another, neither my praise to graven images., Isaiah 42:8, thereby indicating that he will not make anyone else into God. This makes it plain that the Papal claim is false.

43 Since the Papal powers claim Sunday as a sign of their power (did they not say Had she not such power, she could not have done that in which all modern religionists agree with her; --she could not have substituted the observance of Sunday the first day of the week, for the observance of Saturday the seventh day, a change for which there is no Scriptural authority. ), it is logical and clear that they would choose this as the outward sign for people to use that they are giving allegiance to the beast and it s image.

44 But what about the Protestant Powers? Why would they promote Sunday in honor of the Papal Powers? The answer to this is the fact that they have never chosen to follow the command of God and honor the creator by keeping his day of worship. They have chosen to stay with the mark of authority of the Papacy by honoring the day of worship set up by the Papacy. Thus, they too will enforce this very same day of worship as a mark of their own authority, just like the Papists did in past history (and will again).

45 Ultimately you as an individual will have to decide which side you will be on. Think about this: When push comes to shove, which side will you be on? You ll show the world by which day you keep, because by that act, you declare whose side you are on.

46 Revelation 13:16 And he causeth all, both small and great, rich and poor, free and bond to receive a mark in their right hand, or in there foreheads: Revelation 13:17 That no man might buy or sell, save he that hath the mark, or the name of the beast, or the number of his name. Here we see: 1. Mark of the beast 2. Name of the beast 3. Number of the beast s name These will be a means of identification for the purpose of controlling men in their buying and selling, with the ultimate goal of controlling their behavior or their thinking. What one country in the world today, more than any other, uses economic sanctions to enforce it s will on others?

47 Mark of the Beast We know the papacy is the Beast power, so let s ask the Papacy what it s Mark is? The change of the creator s day of worship from Saturday to Sunday is the mark of the power of the Papacy over all religions. The change to Sunday from Saturday is the Mark of the Pope s authority in the Catholic Catechism. The Papacy s claim to change the Biblical Sabbath of the 7th day (according to the 4th commandment) is supposed to indicate the great authority they have. Notice in Revelation 13:12 The USA is to enforce world wide worship, or enforce the Mark of the BEAST as stated by the Papal power. This will be fulfilled when the USA enforces Sunday by law. This is to spread world wide.

48 Some wonder if the number of his name is the number 666. This is based on the idea that the number 666 comes from the pope s title, Vicarius Filii Dei (which the Catholics today claim is not the pope s title but in past history they did claim it). However, the evidence of the text itself would strongly suggest that the number of his name and the number 666 are different. The number of his name is part of the mark of the beast, the sole purpose of which is to identify those who may buy and sell. The mark of the beast is connected with acknowledgement of the pope s authority, so it is much more likely that a loyalty test will be applied as part of this identification process. The number 666 is to be used to identify the beast itself, and is not designed to identify those who are loyal to the beast so far as we can tell from the Bible. We are not told that the number of the beast is the number we must possess in order to buy or sell nor does the Bible say that the number of the beast and the number of his name are the same number. The logical conclusion is that the two numbers are probably different.

49 End of Part 2. Time for a break?

50 Revelation 13:18 Here is wisdom. Let him that hath understanding count the number of the beast: for it is the number of a man; and his number is 666. Here are instructions to let us know the count of the number of the beast is also the number of a man, 666. But the big question is where to find the number 666. What is it s source? How do I find that number so that I can be sure to identify the beast? This is an important question, for the Bible links identifying the beast with finding that number. So, it must be done right.

51 The First Step: What about the man in Revelation 13:18? Revelation 13:18 says Here is wisdom. Let him that hath understanding count the number of the beast: for it is the number of a man; and his number is Six hundred threescore and six. Note that this number, 666, is the number of a man. Some have argued that the original Greek does not have the article a before man so the proper interpretation of that phrase is man s number. They are right, as far as the grammar is concerned, but the context is that this is the number of the beast. Logically, this cannot be the number of a man who is not part of the beast itself, so this rules out the interpretation of man s number which is centainly generic (applies to any man regardless of affiliation with the beast proper). Thus, the only correct interpretation is that shown in the King James Bible (and many other versions), which is that this is the number of a man. Ultimately, it is the number of the man of the beast.

52 Next Step: Look at what has been done historically: About 4 centuries ago, an individual discovered that one of the titles the popes supposedly claimed in that time could add to 666 if the letters in that title which were Roman numerals, were converted to numbers and added up. This title was Vicarius Filii Dei.

53 This addition of the letters works, for indeed it does sum to 666. But there are problems with this approach, which are: The names of many individuals add to 666, so it is not a unique identifier. Are these individuals also the beast? The author thinks not. The title, Vicarius Filii Dei supposedly was claimed by popes starting around 700 or so AD. Thus, if correct, every pope since then has allowed that title to apply to himself. This is a problem because Revelation 13:18 indicates that this number occurs at the end of time when the beast has returned and the image beast is formed. That would strongly suggest it cannot apply at other times, yet the title applies to all popes who have ever claimed it. Revelation 13:18 indicates that one is to count the number of the beast. The original Greek verb for count is singular, indicating that it should apply to one of something. Does application of the number 666 to every pope who ever claimed the title fit this requirement since they are a large number of individuals?

54 Problems with the popes title as a source of the number 666, continued: The Greek verb for count has as it s primary meaning at the heart of it, to count. Some try to bring in the idea of enumeration with pebbles, but this definition still ultimately means to count. It has a secondary meaning of calculation. Probably both interpretations (count and calculate) apply. How is adding up the letters that are Roman numerals in the pope s title counting? When you count, don t you enumerate items, as in 1, 2, 3, 4, and so on until you have counted all items? How is adding up the Roman numerals counting in that manner? To the authors, that seems rather farfetched. The number 666 originally came from Babylon using a particular method (which will be explained later in this study), so it s derivation from the beast should follow similar methods. The title, Vicarius Filii Dei is no longer claimed by the popes, but instead today they claim the title is Vicarius Christi (vicar of or Representative of Christ). This information was found on the website in March of 2004.

55 Problems with the popes title as a source of the number 666, continued: There is a final, serious problem with the use of the title. There is historical evidence that the title did not in fact come from the fraudulent document, the Donation of Constantine, as often claimed, but rather was a title invented by Pope Innocent III ( ). Prior to that time, the title from the Donation of Constantine document was Vicar of Peter, not Vicar of Christ. Pope Innocent III changed this title to Vicar of Christ (Vicarius Filii Dei). Thus, the title began being used officially in his time (though there are claims that it was used before Pope Innocent III). In modern times, they have rejected this title, very likely because of it s connection with the number 666. So, they no longer accept it as official. For historical evidence of this history, see the Catholic web site There you can also read the entire document of the Donation of Constantine and see for yourself that this is true.

56 But now there is a new approach. Some see evidence that the number 6 is man s number, and the number 7 is God s number. They see 7 as a measure of completeness in the eyes of God, while the number 6 is a sign of incompleteness. They base this on the idea that man was created on the 6th day, and to complete the week, God added the Sabbath day, or the 7th day of the week. Also, man is sinful, God is holy. Thus, they conclude that 6 is a sign of man s incompleteness without God and man s sinfulness. And, of course, 666 is simply that much more of a sign of man s incompleteness by being tripled. Under this scenario, the number 666 has no connection with the beast itself at all. But the Bible says it is a way to identify the man of the beast, so how can 666 as a tripled sign of man s incompleteness or sinfulness identify the beast? This in no way is a unique identifier that points only to the beast of Revelation 13. The author thinks this leaves a big gap in the understanding!

57 So, this leaves a big question: How to satisfy the requirements of the prophecy, which are: count and/or calculate the number of the beast This number, by the method of count/calculation, comes to 666 when the counting/calculating is finished The number cannot be arrived at during the time when the beast does not exist, so the number must be arrived at either before 1798, or else must occur during the time of the mark of the beast. Revelation 13:18 indicates it must occur during the time of the mark of the beast. And finally, this number is a unique identifier of the beast itself and the man who is part of the beast that is to be identified

58 Given the problems with the use of the title the popes once claimed and the use of the tripled 6, it is logical that a better system is necessary. There is a system that is now available that is based on the original method used to create the number 666 as it was done originally by the Babylonians of Daniel s time. This method meets the requirements of the prophecy in complete detail. It also connects the beast, where the number is attached, to Babylon (in the symbol of the woman) where the number originated. Revelation 13:18 has the number 666 applied to the beast, and Revelation 17 has Babylon. But these two originally came together, so do you see it is necessary to put Babylon and the number 666 together where they belong?

59 Count the number of the Beast for it s the number of a man, 666. Wisdom is the key word here, Wisdom to count the number of the BEAST, for it s the number of a man. Wisdom again is used in Revelation 17:9 - Here is the mind with wisdom: the 7 heads are 7 mountains, on which the woman sitteth. And there are 7 kings: five are fallen, one is, and the other has not yet come, and when he comes, he continues a short space. And the beast that was, and is not, even he is the 8th and goes into perdition.

60 This connection between the word wisdom in Revelation 13:18 and Revelation 17:9-10 would strongly suggest that the number 666 is somehow connected to the heads of the scarlet beast. What is that connection?

61 The leopard beast of Revelation 13 is easily identified as the Catholic Church in combination with the state during the 1260 days/years of prophetic time. The scarlet beast of Revelation 17 is the same identical power (information about this is covered later). Logically, if the body of the scarlet beast is Papal, then the heads must also be papal, only the heads occur after There are 7 heads on that beast. It turns out that there have been 7 Papal names that have occurred since 1798, which are: Pius, Gregory, Leo, Benedict, John, Paul, and John Paul. Each of these names has a count number after it that is an official designator for a particular pope. Thus, there is a count number for each pope in a particular line. This count number is the source of the number 666. The following slides will explain how this works. The next slide shows the 3 phases of the existence of the scarlet beast and the leopard beast.

62 Counting of the 666 man Beast in three phase s 1. 64 The count stands at 665 as of John Paul II 8th new Papal name makes a count of = 666 man, the last Bishop of Rome. The Church and State system returns during the time of the 666 man, who is also the beast.

65 End of Part 3 Time for a break?

66 Some claim that connecting the count of the number 666 to the heads of the scarlet beast of Revelation 17 is a contrived connection based only on the word wisdom. But this connection through the word wisdom is only part of the reason the count of the number and the heads are connected. Here is another reason they are connected: the source of the number and the method of counting and calculation 666 all originated in Babylonian practices.

67 The original city of Babylon had pagan priests who had 36 supreme false gods, and one additional false god (the sun god) who was over all the other gods, including over the 36 gods just below this one. The 36 supreme false gods were actually assigned count numbers, ranging from 1 to 36, with no two gods having the same number. These numbers were used as part of magical arts and astrology. When the numbers, 1 to 36, are added up, the total is if you have not guessed by now 666.

68 Likewise, in Revelation we have the following: In Revelation 13 we have a beast, which is a combination of church and state, which is declared to have a count total of 666 assigned to it (just where on this beast the count numbers are assigned is not necessarily clear because it could be the body, heads, or horns, but the number 666 is said to be the number of the beast and occurs during the time of the returned beast, so it cannot have been placed on the heads or horns hence, the number 666 itself is attached to the beast s body). There is a church with false gods leading it (the popes). In Revelation 17, we have a woman, who is a symbol of an apostatized church and has committed fornication with the kings of the earth. The woman is declared to be Babylon. Consequently, all we have to do is find the numbers and add them up. Where are they? Did you ever think to look UNDER the woman? She is sitting on the source of the numbers!

69 How can you know she is sitting on the source of the numbers? Revelation 17:2 says the woman commits fornication with the kings of the earth. The woman is a symbol of an apostatized church and the kings of the earth are the rulers of countries. Thus, this is a symbol of church and state combined, for as sex is a physical union, so this would be a symbol of a spiritual union between church and state. God wants the church to rely on him rather than the state, so this is a relation that he does not approve of.

70 But what is the beast of Revelation 13? History shows it was the combination of church and state, for the church used the power of the state to carry out the trials and punishment of heretics. That is a fact recognized by historians. Thus, the body of that beast represented church and state combined (which symbolically are the woman and the kings of the earth). In Revelation 17, we are told the woman and kings of the earth get together in fornication. This is the same as what happens in Revelation 13, so, since the verses in Revelation 17 apply to the scarlet beast, the reference to the woman and the kings of the earth committing fornication can only apply to the scarlet beast. Hence, the scarlet beast of Revelation 17 IS the combination of church and state.

71 Some would like to insist that the verse in Revelation 17:2 (the woman fornicates with the kings of the earth) apply only to the beast of Revelation 13. But how do they explain the fact that Revelation 13 also has several indirect statements saying exactly the same thing, which means it is covered by the statements in Revelation 13, and the statement in Revelation 17 is unnecessary? Further, the subject matter in Revelation 17 is the scarlet beast, not the leopard beast, so the connection with the leopard beast is not logical. Here are the verses in Revelation 13 predicting the combination of church and state: Rev 13:5 And there was given unto him a mouth speaking great things and blasphemies; and power was given unto him to continue forty and two months. Rev 13:6 And he opened his mouth in blasphemy against God, to blaspheme his name, and his tabernacle, and them that dwell in heaven. Rev 13:7 And it was given unto him to make war with the saints, and to overcome them: and power was given him over all kindreds, and tongues, and nations.

72 The key phrases are: blasphemy against God power was given him over all nations. The blasphemy against God is what the talking horn of Daniel 7 did, and with the other characteristics of this power, we know it is the Papacy which does this (certainly a church power). Further, it says it would have power over nations. This is power over the state. Thus, this is a prediction of a combination of church and state. Therefore this statement applies to the beast of Revelation 13 and the statement in Revelation 17 applies to the scarlet beast (of course, they really are the same beast as you will soon see).

73 Now, the woman is visible in Revelation 17 where she is sitting on the heads of the scarlet beast. In Revelation 13 she is not visible. The reason she is not visible in Revelation 13 is because God is not going to show us the relation between the heads and the woman as is done in Revelation 17. He wants to focus on other aspects of history, such as the earthbeast. In Revelation 17, she becomes visible. But notice she is NOT sitting on the back of the scarlet beast. It NEVER says she is sitting on the back at any time. This tells you that she is not visible there because during the time of the body of that beast, SHE IS PART OF THE BEAST (this must be so because of the verse about the fornication Rev. 17:2 - and the fact that the apostatized church has existed since shortly after Jesus left for heaven). She becomes visible AFTER the time represented by the body of that beast because after that time, the church and state are separated. Thus, she is on the heads instead of the back of that beast.
