For teens ages 16 and up this 6 week program is designed to help you learn more of what you need to know to succeed in life. We will have sessions dedicated to car maintenance, money and budgeting, being a wise consumer, etiquette, cooking. Come, have fun and learn with us. Best of all, it s free! Please RSVP by noon on March 5. Class will meet on Tuesdays: March 6, March 13, March 20, March 27, April 10, April 17 at 4:30 pm. *Attend all 6 sessions to be entered to win a door prize!* Districts 6 and 7 are teaming up to put on an Area Teen Retreat to be held at West Kentucky 4-H Camp April This retreat is focused on leadership and getting to know other teens from the area. If you are interested, please contact Lindsey at the Extension Office. Registration is due March 23 so call today! District 6 Area Teens will be meeting March 5 at Ozone Laser Tag! The cost is $12 per person and includes laser tag and dinner. RSVP to the Extension Office by March 1! 4-H Achievement Banquet will be Thursday, April 26 at 6pm in Bittel Hall at the Daviess County Lions Club Fairgrounds. All 4-H ers and their families are invited. T-Shirt order forms will be in the April newsletter. Congratulations to Aiden Hobson and Avery Dilger! The piggy banks they each designed were chosen as two of only 13 that were selected as state winners. They will be recognized during the Kentucky Saves Week celebration at the Capitol Rotunda in Frankfort on March 1st. Their piggy banks have been on display in the State Capitol building.

2 District 6 North 4-H Horse Camp is scheduled for April at the Union County Fair & Exposition Center in Sturgis. Stay tuned for registration forms which will be available soon. Forms & fees will be due in March. All adults attending must have completed the 4-H Youth Protection process. Contact Stacey at the Extension Office if you have questions. Did you know that farmers in Kentucky can make a donation of $10.00 when they renew their farm license plates that will help raise funds for 4-H? The Ag Tag Program is supported by the Kentucky Commissioner of Agriculture, Ryan Quarles. The money raised by the program is evenly split between Kentucky 4-H, Kentucky FFA and Kentucky Proud, which promotes agricultural products raised, grown or processed in Kentucky by Kentuckians. Last year Kentucky 4-H programs received $184,237 from the Ag Tag Program. These funds are split between the county where the funds originated and the Kentucky 4-H Foundation for state level programs. Daviess County 4-H received $3,353 of that sum. That money goes straight into our 4-H Council account where it benefits Daviess County 4-H ers by contributing to 4-H Camp Scholarships, leader training and local 4-H promotional and educational events. Please make sure you support our state and local 4-H programs by encouraging farmers to make this donation! We thank our farmers for their continued support! We had 5 youth participate in the county level 4-H Demonstrations Contest. Each of these youth did an excellent job and will continue on to the Area Communications Contest on April 16. February was a great month as a Health Ambassador. As we conclude 4-H Health Month, remember every day is a chance to make healthier choices. You can do so many different things in order to have a fun and healthy lifestyle. Working with younger kids and making sure they re healthy is my priority. Not only did I educate the kids in our area, I got to write an article that was shared with 4-H ers in other counties and I also went and enjoyed time with kids in Hancock County. I taught them about the importance of eating your fruits and vegetables and drinking lots and lots of water. We did many physical activities which they enjoyed and had fun together. February was awesome! - Lily Young KY, 4-H Health Ambassador Our 4-H Crushers Trap Team will be having an interest meeting to kick off the new season on March 29 at the Daviess County Extension Office. The meeting will begin at 5pm. 3 2018 Poster and Essay Contest: "Kentucky Agriculture: From Farm Gate to Dinner Plate" Commissioner Ryan Quarles invites Kentucky students all across the Commonwealth to create and submit original works of art to show the importance of agriculture to the Commonwealth s way of life and our future. Students are encouraged to submit either a poster, essay, or digital image based on the contest theme. The theme for 2018 is Kentucky Agriculture: From Farm Gate to Dinner Plate. Statewide poster and essay winners from each grade, Kindergarten through 12th grade, will be chosen, and an overall digital winner will be selected. Cash prizes will be presented to the winners at the 2018 Poster and Essay Awards Ceremony. Information regarding the ceremony is TBD at this time. The winning entries may be displayed in the Commissioner s Office in Frankfort, at the 2018 Kentucky State Fair, and on the KDA website. Entries must be postmarked by Monday, April 2, 2018 and mailed to the Kentucky Department of Agriculture, c/o Elizabeth Gordon, 111 Corporate Drive, Frankfort, KY A completed entry form must be taped or glued to the back of each entry. If all information on the entry form is not completed the submission will be disqualified. Winners will be notified by May 4, For more information and rules to participate in the contest: 4-H Camp will be June 12-15, 2018 at West Kentucky 4-H Camp. Camp is open to youth 9-15 years of age. The cost is $215, or $205 if paid in full by May 1. The fee includes meals, lodging, transportation, and a t-shirt. Spaces fill quickly, please don t wait until the last minute! As always, we are looking for adults and teens to serve as volunteers at Camp. If you are interested please contact us! All volunteers must go through a screening process which includes a background check and an interview. Parents: please be aware we can only accept the number of campers we have the adults to supervise. Please consider serving as a camp volunteer to ensure we can take as many youth as want to attend. DAVIESS COUNTY EXTENSION HOMEMAKERS SCHOLARSHIP The Daviess County Extension Homemakers Scholarship will be awarded to ONE applicant in the amount of $500. Completed application and a current transcript must be submitted no later than March 15, The chosen recipient will be announced in the May 2018 Homemaker Newsletter. The recipient will also be invited to attend the Homemaker s Annual Meeting in September 2018 to be recognized.
