4 In the name of God, Amen. I, Anne Thackwell of Stanton St. Johns in the county of Oxford, Spinster, being somewhat weak in body but of perfect memory, blessed be God for the same do make and ordain this my last will and testament the first day of June in the year of our Lord 1672 in manner following. Viz. First, I bequeath my soul to God hoping through his mercy and the merits of my Savior Jesus Christ for full pardon and remission for all my sins and after this life to enjoy everlasting life and happiness in his heavenly kingdom. And my body I commit to the earth to be buried in an handsome and decent manner by my executors hereafter named. And for such worldly estate as God of his mercy hath bestowed upon me, I give and bequeath the same as followeth. And first I give and bequeath to my loving mother widow Jane Thackwell nine pounds yearly of lawful English money in recompense and satisfaction of the third and dower which she shall or may claim out of all or any of the lands or tenements of my brother Thomas Thackwell in Horsepath in the said county of Oxford. To be paid by my executors to my said mother, yearly, during her life, upon the nine and twentieth day of September and the five and twentieth day of March, by equal portions without any manner of deduction for any matter, cause or thing whatsoever. The first payment thereof to begin upon such of the said days of payment which shall first and next happen after my decease provided that if my said mother shall at any tim e during her life demand or sue for any third or dower out of my said brothers estate aforesaid then this my bequest of nine pounds per annum shall be utterly void. Item. I give and bequeath to my brother William Thackwell and his wife twenty shillings a piece to buy each of them a ring. Item. I give to my cousin Mary Trulock, one of my sister Jane Trulock daughters, fifty pounds of lawful English money. Item. I give to my said sister Jane Trulock and her three other children one hundred pounds of like English money to be paid and distributed amongst them at such time and in such manner as my executors hereafter named shall think wise and convenient. Item. I give and bequeath to my sister Katherine Thackwell fifty pounds of lawful English money. Item. I give and bequeath to Paul Thackwell and Anne Thackwell, two of the children of my said brother Thomas Thackwell, the sum of fifty pounds a piece of lawful English money to be paid unto their father s hands for their use until they shall respectively attain and come to their several and respective ages of one and twenty years and then to be paid into their own hands with all the benefit and profit shall in the meantime be made of the same.

5 Item I give and bequeath the sum of five pounds to be and remain as a stock in the overseers hands, of the poor of the parish of Waterperry, if my body shall be buried in that church or else to remain in such parish where my body shall be buried. And the interest of the said five pounds to be paid forth yearly upon the first day of January commonly called New Year s Day for the buying of bread which my will is shall be distributed amongst the poor of the said parish where my body shall be buried. Item. All the rest of my goods, chattels, estate whatsoever, my debts, legacies and funeral expenses being paid and discharged. I give and bequeath to my brother in law Mr. Eldridge Jackson and to my said brother Thomas Thackwell whom I do constitute, appoint and make the only executors of this my last will and testament defining and charging them to do the same in all things performed according to the true meaning thereof and to be my body handsomely and decently buried. And in testimony that this is my last will and testament I have hereunto put my hand and seal the day and year above written. Anne Thackwell, Signed, sealed, published and declared by the said Anne Thackwell to be her last will and testament the day and year above written in the presence of the mark of Richard Lamb, Thomas Phillipps. Probatum apud London fuit Testamentum supra scriptum vicesimo secondo die mensis Novembire Anno Domini millesimo sexcentesimo septuagesimo tertio coram venerabili viro Richardo Lloyd Legum doctore Surrogato venerabilis et egregii viri domino Leolino Jenkins, militis, legum etiam doctoris jurie Prerogative Canturiensis custod sive comissarii legitime constituti juramento Eldridge Jackson and Thomas Thackwell executorum in hujusmodi testamento nominatorum cui comissa fuit adminstratio omnium et singulorum bonorum jurium et creditorum dicta defuncta de bene et fideliter adminstrando eadem ad sancta dei evangelia juratis lata sentential eodem die pro valore et validitate dicti testamenti probat ex actis curiae liquet. This will, written above, was proved at London on the twenty second day of the month of November in the year of our Lord one thousand six hundred seventy third before Richard Lloyd, Doctor of Laws, in place of the venerable and excellent Lord Leoline Jenkins, knight and Doctor of Laws, Master Keeper or Commissary of the Prerogative Court of Canterbury, lawfully constituted, by the oaths of Eldridge Jackson and Thomas Thackwell, the executors named in the said will, to whom administration was granted of all and singular the goods, rights and credits of the said deceased, sworn on the holy Gospel of God to well and faithfully administer the same.
