The cas, mos of whom are doing heir firs long pars in he College Theare is being ably direced by Miss Alhea Hun, who in his play has chosen one of he mos unusual pieces o be given since a very long ime a he College of William and Mary. The siuaion arises when a rich and reiring London lady, Miss Mary Herries (Peggy Gildner) befriends firs a culured vagran, Henry Abbo (William Land), hen his wife, who fains under very suspicious circumsances on he lady's doorsep, and finally becomes unwilling hosess o a whole gang of rascals who smoohly bu implacably insinuae hemselves ino her home. "Kind Lady" is a drama which definiely belongs o he gooseflesh group, wih numerous scenes full of vigorous dramaic punches. One comes jus afer he rogues have seled hemselves in he house and made is misress a prisoner. A hungry-eyed urchin, Aggie (Virginia Boardman), prowls around sealing hings; a gross woman, Mrs. Edwards (Edna Whie) irelessly scolds her; a big, horrible man Mr. Edward (David Quinlan) plays a screechy, porable gramophone, while a dim wied pseudo-invalid, Ada (Virginia Brenn) dances crazily in her nighgown. Mos specaors' pulses will miss a bea when he broken lady smuggles a noe o an ar dealer (Waler Bara) who has eome o ake away he las of her picures, only o see he ar dealer urn i over o her capors under he impression ha she is mad. Bland Chief Speaker for Armisice The Honorable S. As he bells in he Wren Building olled he hour of eleven, he repor of he buglers sounding aps came from he old Capiol Building. In Phi Bea Kappa Hall Maxine Hines and Ehel Bu played a piano due for he advance of colors. Vemon L. Nunn, acing chaplain of he Peninsula Pos, asked he American Legion prayer for Armisice Day, and he William and Mary Choir sang a Charole from Church Canaa No. 182 by J. S. Bach. 3 Tuesday, Nov. 14, 1939 THE FLAT HAT PAGE THEE! W&M SCORES LISTLESS 19-6 WIN OVER R Women Reporers; Peg Guildner, Florence Mode, Jean Lyngaas, Marx Figley, Terry Teal. JIJIJU^ ^5?5B) S^iJ A' ZA XX IS By FRANK EAFLO Men Reporers: Dick Earle»Biil Howard, and Dick Kaufman. njured Indians Face Improved W & L Generals THIS WEEK By FEAWK RAFLO In spie of he possibiliy ha we, oo, migh be labeled a young college kid who wans his name in he paper, we hink ha somehing ough o be said over he curren argumen beween Sonny Hearwell of he Washingon and Lee Ring Turn Phi and he Richmond Ciy Spors Ediors. I seems ha Sonny fel his eam was being done an injusice by he Dispach and he News Leader in ha he name and fame of he Generals was no spread over heir shees. He furher charged ha here would have been lile room o wrie abou his or anybody else's eam for ha maer, as he. grea Richmond Spiders ook all he space. In answer o his charge he righ honorable edior, Durden and Oliver defended hemselves emphaically by poining ou, in he firs place, ha W. A L., was geing her share of he glory and, secondly, ha Richmond was a good eam and since hey were he home club were a leas in line for heir share of space. Thus, he charges and couner charges have been flying back and forh during he week wih supporers on boh sides. When we heard he sory he firs ime, we naurally gave hree cheers for Sonny and wondered why we hadn' come ou wih somehing like ha. Bu in all jusice o he Ediors we have been forced o give way from ha posiion jus a lile. FAIRLY EVEN... A survey of he spors pages of he News Leader from he firs of Ocober up o he presen dae failed o show he grea inequaliies which we fel sure were here. One mus consider ha he Spiders are on he road o a sae championship and as such a eam are eniled o a leas as much space as any oher eam in he sae. In addiion o which, hey are he home eam, so ha we should expec a cerain amoun of parisanship heir way. Sonny was no alogeher wrong in his criicism, however. We discovered bis here and here which migh easily be used o jusify his accusaion. Firs of all as o one's knowing whereof he speaks. We noiced a sory in he News Leader abou Lenz he speedy Guilford back who sarred here agains he" Indians. While giving he flee one all he credi he deserved he sory wen on o call him he fases back in THE SOUTH and a man capable of running he 100 in en fla IN FULL FOOTBALL UNIFORM. Now Mr. Oliver is ha over doing i jus a lile bi? We mus hasen o poin ou ha such cases were few and hardly warran a major criicism; hey only go o show ha we are all human and ha none is infallible. JONES SICK ; On he Richmond quesion iself, here were also a few poins. The mos noable one being he grea buuild up for Ar, The Grea, Jones. During he" curren-season he Grea One conraced a sligh cold which necessiaed his picure being on he spors page wih he "cold" clearly in view. All was weeping and sorrow. Bu hen, a few days laer, 'h'e iasy cold was gone and once'more we saw he Grea One's picure on he page, bu his ime he was booing one of hose unmachable puns, and was minus his cold. As far as William and Mary goes we have no kick. Our coaching saff has been pessimisic and righly so. We have received our share of publiciy in he paper for a fair eam and we'll wai a couple of years before criicizing from our end, The one hing on which we did noice he greaes amoun of sress was he Souhern and Virginia fooball in general. Our sae eams have been given every break and we are all for such a policy, for Virginia fooball has come a long way in he pas hree years and i is desined o ake even a greaer jump in he nex hree. In our survey we did no go over o he Dispch, bu we feel confiden ha he plaudis and criicisms apply equally as well o boh. Our advice, if i is waned, is brief. To he ediors: Be as fair as you have been in he pas, cu ou some of he lile incidens abou your grea ones, and be jus a lile oleran of criicism. I may no ways be jus, bu i is a good hing o hink abou... Or can man really run he hundred in en fla in full uniform, and if he can, why shouldn' he beheralded as a greaer rack man han a fooball player, which he c erainly would be. Tha is all. Brown & Wes Barre Lead In Hockey Pimmls The Women's Inramural Hockey Tournamen is o be compleed his week. Wih several games Sill o be played i is hazardous o prophesy he vicorious eam, bu if Brown and Wes Barre coninue as hey have been doing here should be some close games oward he end of he ournamen. To dae, Brown has won hree ou of hree games played, and Wes O. Barre has won boh of her maches. One of he mos ineresinggames played up o now was ha beween Wes Barre and Jefferson, won by he formei\8-l. Jefferson was he winning eam in las year's ournamen, bu i looks as hough her crown may be aken away. (Coninued on Page Six) Game To Be High Spo Of Home Season ME SEE HEAP BIG CROWD COMING HOME. Member Pbsociaied Cc\\e&\a\e Press Disribuor of Cbl!e6iafe Di6es how's abou i Mosly our concern for he fuure has been limied o he resuls of mid-erm examinaion marks, nex Saurday's fooball score, and wha girl would accep our inviaion o he Homecomingweekend. Our ignorance of hings o come is boundless. Those few of us who did hazard a peep ino hei me beyond his pleasan campus life have usually reurned o he presen enirely confused as o our probable peculiar direcions in he course of human evens. We wrie hese Monday morning reflecions of he fuure afer an immediae pas ha has been unusually significan for us in his respec. I all began, we hink, wih he lecure in Phi Bea Kappa Hall las Friday. Weldon Hoo, a scholarly genleman from Pennsylvania gave us his worhy commens on wha promise we migh expec in a world of "Isms". We lef he Hall raher pulled abou his promise of a fuure and he error of he "Isms" did no srike very deep in our wondering hears. Whaever worry we migh have had for omorrow was los in he clicking of several co-eds needles who could kni one and purl wo while j Europe ever so figuraively burned in he speakers words. The heads may roll in Berlin bu we have sweaers o finish in Williamsburg. On Saurday a congressman had more o say of he way of his world, is sad pas, is sadder presen, and is same fuure which i seemed had much o do wih such young folks as ourselves. The words, he flag waving, he band playing we had all heard before. We had ha srange sense, so common o us all, of idenical evens occuring in a very hazy pas. There was lile comfor of a golden promise for our fuure here. We remembered he Boy Scou billboard of no so long ago wih he happy message, "America's Fuure Lies In Is Youh". Yes, bu where does he Youh lie in his prey fuure. On wha balefield and for wha purpose? Again on Sunday, his ime a man of God, old more of his fuure, is promise and is meaning. Bu from all his alk of he world and where is i going, our greaes saisfacion came from he kniing needles in Phi Bea Kappa. Le he idios spin our heir meaningless ale of sound and fury in Europe. Any peace and securiy we may know in he fuure will come from ending o our own kniing and forgeing he inernaional weavers whose apesry conains oo many red hreads, oo many fine blood red hreads. The idea of having a pary line beween hree of he girl's dorms is cerainly a brillian one. Las year i used o ake abou five minues o ge hrough if one of he phones was busy.
