There was a time when I hid the abuse, And kept secret, all of the pain. There was a time when I kept my head down, I was afraid, and also ashamed. Then came the day when I found there was help, Called, and asked how I could get away. It took me some time to get over that man, But I did, now I m no longer afraid. You know, I used to think that abuse was okay, So I kept it a secret, that s how I was raised! But, then I learned the truth, It s not normal, not fine, And if you re being abused, You can get freedom like mine. There are many out there who are trapped with bad men, And they don t know how to get free. They feel alone and are afraid to reach out, They are hurt, just like I used to be. Keep your eyes and your hears open to them, Reach out and give them your hands. Help guide them to safety, show them the way. We can all be released from those bands.

4 Trouble Sleeping I jumped awake from my dream last night, I cried and looked around. But, then realizing where I was, I am safe, I laid back down. Tears soaked my pillow and my face, As I tried to fall back asleep But memories racing through my head, Make it impossible to count any sheep. Deep in my thoughts I was with him again, What he did to me, fresh in my mind On top of me, punching me, holding me down, How could he have been so unkind? Against the wall now, against the fridge, Against the stove how that hurt! Holding a knife, then he sinks it in me, Blood all over my favorite shirt.
