1 The Bear Flag Patriots The Official News of the Missouri Division, Sons of Confederate Veterans Issue XVII MISSOURI The Twelfth State of the Confederate States of America Apr 18 Jun 18 From the Division Commander Greetings! Thanks to everyone across the State that participated in National Flag Day this past March. We had a great turnout from the east side to the west side. Our ancestors spirit lives on. Looking forward to seeing everyone at the Division Convention coming up in the next few weeks. We have a great line up of speakers. It is also election time, so if you have been thinking you would like to hold a office, volunteer your services or help the Division in any way this is a great opportunity to meet with the members of the Division and get involved. Commander Paul Lawrence will have a update on the flag pole project for us at the Division business meeting. We also have Confederate Memorial Day coming up June 2 at Higginsville, Mo. Also the opening of The National Confederate Museum at Historic Elm Springs in Columbia TN during the National Convention July at Franklin TN. 2 Eli Cooper Lewis Cape Girardeau Co, Missouri Corporal, Company A & B, 8th Missouri Cavalry CSA 2018 Missouri Division Reunion April 6-7, 2018 Sedalia, Missouri Confederate Memorial Day June 2, 2018 Higginsville Missouri Camps Anderson Camp #1743 Confederate Memorial Day will be held on Sunday April 8th at 1:00 pm by the General Sterling Price Monument in Keytesville, Chariton County, Missouri. All Division members are invited to attend as I hope for those returning home from the Division Reunion in Sedalia that it

3 should not be to far out of the way in the west central part of the state. If that be the case and you stay the Saturday night at Best Western, Sedalia, drop by on the way home. All Anderson Camp members within travel distance are expected to attend. A special tribute to 1st Lt. Commander Martin Kirby will be in order. Salute...Neil Block - Commander Chaplain s Corner This is the time of year that we focus on the death and resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ. If you do not know him, you can by just accepting him and believing in him. Father, I know that I have broken your laws and my sins have separated me from you. I am truly sorry, and now I want to turn away from my past sinful life toward you. Please forgive me, and help me avoid sinning again. I believe that your son, Jesus Christ died for my sins, was resurrected from the dead, is alive, and hears my prayer. I invite Jesus to become the Lord of my life, to rule and reign in my heart from this day forward. Please send your Holy Spirit to help me obey You, and to do Your will for the rest of my life. In Jesus' name I pray, Amen. MOMENT IN THE WORD - Edwin Woolsey Matthew 21:4-5 This took place to fulfill what was spoken through the prophet: Say to Daughter Zion, See, your king comes to you, gentle and riding on a donkey, and on a colt, the foal of a donkey. As we look ahead to Easter, we must first look back to Palm Sunday and realize its significance. However, without appreciating God's plan in Exodus, then understanding the Triumphal Entry is impossible, The Lord said to Moses and Aaron in Egypt, This month is to be for you the first month, the first month of your year. Tell the whole community of Israel that on the tenth day of this month each man is to take a lamb for his family, one for each household. Ex. 12:1-3 Many times during His ministry, Jesus purposely avoided the city of Jerusalem because His time had not yet come. However, when Christ rode into Zion seated on a donkey's colt, it was the tenth of Abib, the day of the month when Israel was ordered to capture its Passover Lamb. Following the tenth day, the nation confined the lamb to kill it four days later as God's word commanded, And ye shall keep it up until the fourteenth day of the same month: and the whole assembly of the congregation of Israel shall kill it in the evening. Ex. 12:6 In light of the Passover ordinance, we realize there was absolutely nothing triumphant about Christ's Triumphal Entry into Jerusalem on Palm Sunday. Rather, Jesus was surrendering His life in a prisoner exchange for you. We see this perfectly illustrated in Pilate's offer to release either Christ or Barabbas, But the whole crowd shouted, 'Away with this man! Release Barabbas to us!' Luke 23:18

4 Every aspect of Palm Sunday screams SURRENDER! Intentionally, Christ followed Zechariah's prophecy to meekly enter Jerusalem the last time riding on a donkey's colt; the toes of the man's sandals dragging the ground. His action might be compared to America's army riding into enemy territory on tricycles. In spite of being hailed King of David's lineage, if Jesus' entry into Jerusalem was a triumphal conquest, He would have ridden the same majestic white stallion we notice in Revelation 19:11. If so, He might have quickly ridden away four days later as the multitude turned against him, shouting, Crucify! Instead, He willingly went in, knowing there would be no escape... no way out! Jesus was our Passover Lamb, captured on the tenth day and killed on the fourteenth day of Abib so that we might escape the bondage of sin through God's merciful Exodus of Grace! Realizing that God's Son was sent for the purpose of being a very expensive prisoner exchange, St. Paul declares, For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him. 2 Cor. 5:21 And then in another place, But He made Himself of no reputation, and took upon Him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men: And being found in fashion as a man, He humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross. Philippians 2:7-8 Having been freed through Christ's capture, St. Paul ordered, Stand fast therefore in the liberty wherewith Christ hath made us free, and be not entangled again with the yoke of bondage. Galatians 5:1 Tragically, this profound spiritual awareness of the monumental cost of liberty is lost on an American generation. Currently, we watch our young people riot for the sake of having their god-given inalienable rights removed by civil authority. Abandoning their love of freedom, they forget the urgent admonition of their Fathers... Posterity you will never know how much it has cost my generation to preserve your freedom, I hope you will make good use of it! John Quincy Adams. Have you? The price of your liberty has been paid through the sacrifice of another.
