1 English 10 Summer Reading The curriculum of English 10 aligns chronologically with World Studies II. The first literature selection of English 10 is a representation of one Renaissance writer s view of God s judgement upon sin and sinners. Therefore, the summer reading introduces the student to God s actual plan of judgement by reading John s revelation and an allegory of The Second Coming and God s judgement. The writing assignment challenges the student to think critically about the two selections as well as hone their writing skills. The study guide for Revelation will serve as a springboard for class discussions as we read The Inferno at the beginning of the school year. Please keep in mind that the Greenbrier Christian Academy Honor Code applies to summer reading assignments. Objectives: Compare and contrast the events of the biblical book of Revelation with an allegory of the same events. Construct a well-written compare/contrast essay. Revelation Assignment: Read Revelation Complete the attached reading guide on the book of Revelation. This reading guide will help direct your reading and will be used again as we read The Inferno in the fall. Submit the reading guide via to Mrs. Lunsford no later than Monday, August 27, The Last Battle Assignment: Completely read The Last Battle by C.S. Lewis. Write an essay comparing and contrasting The Last Battle with the book of Revelation using the specific format at the end of this document. The paper is MLA formatted, and for reference in formatting the paper and in-text citations and works cite page, please utilize the MLA Section of the Purdue OWL website. These questions will be used to gauge your knowledge and comprehension of the book of Revelation. The reading guide questions will be due on the second day of school for a quiz grade. 7 Name Mrs. Lunsford English 10 August 27: Title of the Paper The essay must have an introduction, body, and conclusion. Please make sure to include the thesis in the last sentence of the introduction paragraph and any quotes have the page number cited within the text. The essay must be typed, 12 point, Times New Roman font, double spaced, and at least two pages long with one-inch margins. The student may have up to four pages but no less than three pages. The student should have his first page with a proper MLA heading (as shown above) and the last name and page number beginning on page two through the end of your paper. This assignment is a test grade and should be submitted via to Mrs. Lunsford no later than Monday, August 27, 2018
