FOR OUR CITY. FOR JESUS. SAN DIEGO
WHAT IS OUR MISSION AND VISION OUR MISSION Create experiences for the people of our city to fall in love with Jesus and follow Him. OUR VISION Start a movement that turns cities into beacons of hope for the world through our community of churches. THE TEAM CARLOS, GINA, ISABELLA, ISAAC & EMMA ISAZIGA Gina and I grew up in big cities knowing the incredible need for hope in the urban environment. Our lives were changed later in our teen years when we met Jesus through the church in Miami. Soon after that God began to make some things very clear to us; He was calling us to join Him in what He was doing in the world, He was placing a passion in our hearts for a generation who don t know God, and He was preparing us to start a movement. We have served in full time ministries for twenty years, from Florida to New Jersey. For twelve years now we have had a dream to start a movement that would help a generation fall in love with God. We believe that our faith and God s timing were two critical pieces. We believe now is the time to launch out in faith. Our children are very excited about this new journey in the life of our family. Isabella is 18, she s our artist and will be starting college soon, Isaac is 15 and is our strong rock, & Emma is 12 and is our comedian and creative. Our lives were changed by Jesus and we know that if there is any hope for our world, it is through Jesus. Our dream is to start a movement through our churches that will turn cities into beacons of hope through Jesus.
PATRICE THOMAS Born in the mountains and raised on the beach I have always craved adventure. Educated in communication and child development my life has been a falling confetti celebration of laughs and learning how to best please my creator with the gifts He's given me. BEN & ELIZABETH HEDGSPETH Ben & Beth Hedgspeth have been serving together in ministry for 20 years. They have been a part of legacy churches & church plants, serving in every aspect of the life of the church along the way. They have 3 amazing children, Jeremiah (15), Joel (13) & Eliza Grace (10) who all love Jesus & have servant's hearts, too. They started praying in mid-2016 for a new adventure in Christ & are looking forward to heading west to San Diego to love people & bring the light of the Gospel to darkened & broken hearts. A LIFE CHANGED ANDREANA BAREFIELD Visit to watch her story.
WHY LUMINOUS IN SAN DIEGO? PEOPLE We have a passion and a heavy burden on our hearts for a generation of people who don t know Jesus. San Diego is the 7th largest city in the United States with 1.3 million people. San Diego County remains the nation's fifth-most populous with 3.3 million residents, and added the fourth-highest number of residents between 2013 and 2014, according to U.S Census Bureau figures. YOUNG PEOPLE San Diego s highest population is made up 25 to 44 year olds. In a study conducted by Pew Research they found that 60% of the population in San Diego seldom/never participate in prayer or read scripture. People who claim no religious affiliation have the highest % in population and out of that number year olds hold the 2nd highest number. San Diego is a beautiful, young, & large city. But also a city dealing with real life issues, struggles and hurts. POVERTY Almost 15% of San Diego s 3 million residents live in poverty, below the poverty line. Enough people to fill two Petco Parks. One fourth of those people are children.
HUNGE ER R They face what the Census Bureau calls food insecurity. That means that they don't know where their next meal will come from. San Diego s child hunger rate exceeds the national rate by 1%. H O M E L ES S N ES S CALIFORNIA HAS THE LARGEST HOMELESS POPULATION IN THE UNITED STATES AT 118,142, ACCORDING TO AN ANNUAL REPORT BY THE U.S. DEPARTMENT OF HOUSING AND URBAN DEVELOPMENT. SAN DIEGO COUNTY WAS THE COUNTY WITH THE FOURTH LARGEST HOMELESS POPULATION IN THE COUNTRY. (*U.S. Census Bureau. American Community Survey, Compiled by SANDAG, April 2016.) We see San Diego as a city belonging to the next generation, a growing city, and a city where the story of Jesus needs to be told by as many churches as possible. That is how Luminous City Church will reach our culture. We need new churches who s mission is to live out the story of Jesus.
WHERE DOES LUMINOUS CITY COME FROM? YOU ARE THE LIGHT OF THE WORLD - LIKE A CITY ON A HILLTOP THAT CANNOT BE HIDDEN. NO ONE LIGHTS A LAMP AND THEN PUTS IT UNDER A BASKET. INSTEAD, A LAMP IS PLACED ON A STAND, WHERE IT GIVES LIGHT TO EVERYONE IN THE HOUSE. MATTHEW 5: 14, 15 JESUS SPOKE TO THE PEOPLE ONCE MORE AND SAID, I AM THE LIGHT OF THE WORLD. IF YOU FOLLOW ME, YOU WON T HAVE TO WALK IN DARKNESS, BECAUSE YOU WILL HAVE THE LIGHT THAT LEADS TO LIFE. JOHN 8: 12 We believe that Jesus is the light of the world. We also believe that we are living in a very important time in the history of our world. The darkness in the world presents a great opportunity for Jesus light to shine even brighter. The church is the radiating, reflecting, shining, luminous light of Jesus. There is something reassuring about light shining in dark places, it brings hope & life. We are that shining city on a hill.
THE STRATEGIC PLAN. HOW WE WILL BEGIN TO FULFILL THE MISSION IN SAN DIEGO. BUILD TEAM/LEADERS Our focus will be connecting, training, & inspiring our team and leaders. As we do this we will also be developing our launch team. CITY GROUPS We will continue developing relationships and form City Groups in order to bless our city and meet Jesus together. COMMUNITY EVENTS City Groups will serve our city by creating connections with other churches, businesses, non-profits, & local government agencies. PRE-LAUNCH/LAUNCH We will continue developing prayer teams, seeking financial partners/support raising, locate facilities, plan services, begin preview services, and launch.
THE VISION EXPANDED. VALUES & BELIEFS VALUES: MOVE INTO MESSES: Encounter people in the realness of life & bring hope. MAKE IT BETTER NOW: Pursue excellence & innovation in all we do & take responsibility for all we do. MULTIPLY OURSELVES: Help people meet Jesus & use their gifts to expand His mission. MADE TO GROW: Following Jesus causes growth. MIX IT UP: All people belong here. MY HOME: You are loved in this house BELIEFS: FOLLOW JESUS: There s no one that transforms lives like Jesus. Only He reveals God s character and love to the world. (Mt12:21; Ro15:13; Eph4:4) GIVE HOPE Jesus came into the world to infuse it with hope and his church is the vehicle of that hope. (Mt9:9; Mk8:34; Jn8:12) EMPOWER PEOPLE Jesus promised we wouldn't be alone. Instead we would do life with his Holy Spirit living in us. (Ac1:8; 2Ti1:7; Lk24:49)

JOIN THE MOVEMENT PRAY We believe that God is doing something big in our world. We desire to join Him in that but we can t do it on our own. Everything we do rests on the shoulders of God. That is why prayer is so crucial in the life of something new, not just at the beginning but through out its life. This new church, this new movement needs your prayer. Will you pray with us? This is the foundational work of Luminous City Church. Luke 10:2 reminds us to pray to the Lord of the harvest to send workers into the field. Your prayers are the most powerful tool we have at our disposal, a direct line to the throne of YHWH, who provides for all our needs. This is the greatest work we ask you to join us in. GIVE God s vision for San Diego and Luminous City Church is big. We shouldn t be surprised about that. We believe that with God all things are possible. When you bring God and people who want to see His mission expand in the world together, big things happen. We need you. Will you consider partnering with us in bringing light to the city of San Diego through Luminous City Church. We would love for you to partner with us financially, please look at the Levels of Partnership page to see how you can join the Luminous City team. JOIN The church is made up of people, people called to a God-guided adventure in seeing the will of God done on earth as it is in heaven. We do this by shining the light of the Gospel together. If you have been reading through this booklet & if you feel these words resonating within you, you might be called to join with us in doing something incredible in the lives of the people of San Diego & beyond! If you are interested, please contact us at luminouscitysd@gmail.com TELL Word of mouth is still one of the most powerful methods of marketing. Please tell others about what God is up to in and through Luminous City with anyone you know in the San Diego area. Whether you know people in San Diego or not, just get the word out. You can follow us on Twitter, Instagram, Facebook or on our website. You will not only help us get the word out but you will also be able to keep up with our story as it unfolds! The more people who know, the more potential partners we have to bring the light of Jesus to San Diego. FOLLOW US LuminousCitySD
