1 1920 Pine Tree Drive Prescott, AZ Work Experience Temple B rith Shalom, Prescott, Arizona Rabbi, June Present LEADERSHIP and COMMUNITY BUIDLING Created a caring space and service for mourning and support in the wake of the tragic loss of 19 Granite Mountain Hotshots, and a Jewish response by raising money for victim s families. Nurtured partnerships and built bridges with interfaith communities and individuals including an African American church, the Prescott United Methodist Church, a Buddhist priest, a Muslim speaker, the First Congregational Church through shared worship, education, Q and A, personal stories and joint social justice efforts. Served as the primary Jewish voice in the quad-city community. Shared Jewish message of thanks as speaker and singer at each Quad City Interfaith Thanksgiving event. Wrote articles for the Prescott Daily Courier, and participated in TV and radio interviews about Jewish holidays. Engaged in and led warm exchange with a Holocaust survivor in front of 1200 attendees from the community as part of a community Yom HaShaoah event. SOCIAL JUSTICE Initiated a social justice committee and presence within the congregation, consisting of educational sessions on issues related to race, religious diversity, Syrian refugees, and white privilege. Each session was rooted in Jewish texts and values. Speaker at the Prescott College interfaith vigil for peace. Taught a community class on Social Justice within Judaism at Prescott College. Key Note Speaker about the importance of equality and Justice within Judaism at the Quad City Interfaith community Martin Luther King Day. Participated and sang a song as a leading Jewish voice at St. Luke s Ebony Christian Church s (local African American Church) MLK day celebration. Voiced compassion and dignity in combating poverty through a client led approach as a Coalition for Compassion Board member, chair of the advocacy committee, and created further bridges between the congregation and our efforts. WORSHIP and HOLIDAY CELEBRATION Cultivated joyous, warm, spiritual, and interactive worship experiences including music voice and guitar, sermons, conversation, and worship. Introduced guitar, new melodies, art, creative readings and question based iyunim (to add intention, focus and meaning to various prayers). Added variety to regular services by introducing a monthly family services, birthday blessings, and piano service with music from the choir and choir director.
2 Introduced visual tefillah during High Holy Days and community Passover Seder Created outdoor worship experiences for Havdalah, the 4 th of July and Shabbat services. Transformed holiday celebrations into experiential and family friendly occasions that celebrated the heart of the holiday s theme through festival potlucks, outdoor locations, live musicians, and craft projects that symbolized the values of each holiday such as making a little Torah that contained a teaching we wished to keep with us throughout the year during Simchat Torah. RELATIONSHIP BUILDING Invited story sharing and connections through one-on-one coffee conversations with each congregant. Built bridges between families and retired congregants through sick visits, delivery of mishloach manot (Purim baskets) to homebound congregants, shared worship experiences and a congregational Shabbat at the local Jewish Summer Camp. Initiated leadership opportunities for teens including camp and teen led Shabbat services, with planning sessions and leadership opportunities for teens and camp participants. FUNDRAISING Raised money for the congregation through a legacy breakfast. Procured grants from the local Jewish Foundation. Raised money for a new sound system. Raised money for the new High Holy Day Mishkan HaNefesh Prayerbooks. LIFELONG LEARNING Introduced diverse learning opportunities such as art midrash, High Holy Day liturgy history and introduction of Mishkan HaNefesh, an adult b nai mitzvah class, Hebrew learning for adults, Torah and Haftarah studies. Guided interactive Torah study with various themes and perspectives (liturgy, social action racial justice, commentaries, divrei Torah, stories, questions holidays, theological questions etc.). Wrote d vrei Torah for the URJ s 10 Minutes of Torah (Davar Acher) and the Jewish News of greater Phoenix. Wrote and shared d vrei Torah at meetings, composed articles for the monthly newsletter. Crafted moving sermons, iyunim, and teachings for worship experiences. Reimagined the Religious School to become more rooted in enduring understandings, and creative, experiential lessons. Wrote original curricula and tefillah for each new annual content theme including: history through time travel, Israel through texts, worship and history, Jewish Values through super hero quests, and Torah and Jewish texts through our natural connection to the desert in which we live. Created personalized Hebrew learning opportunities with individual tutors and introduced Hebrew through movement. Introduced Israeli Dance to the congregation and community and integrated it into holiday celebrations and events
3 LIFE CYCLE and HOSPITAL VISITS Celebrated with families at time of joy and comforted members during times of loss while creating individualized life cycle ceremonies. Created sacred moments with congregants in the hospital and at hospice.
