1 Break up Your Fallow Ground Hosea 10:12-13

2 Romans 10:8-13 But what does it say? The word is near you, in your mouth and in your heart (that is, the word of faith which we preach): 9 that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. 10 For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. 11 For the Scripture says, Whoever believes on Him will not be put to shame. 12 For there is no distinction between Jew and Greek, for the same Lord over all is rich to all who call upon Him. 13 For whoever calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved.

3 Matthew 28:18-20 And Jesus came and spoke to them, saying, All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. 19 Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age. Amen.

4 I. What is Fallow Ground? A. Fallow ground was ground once productive, now lying in waste. B. Hosea could identify with the need to break up the fallow ground in Israel. C. We can identify with the need for this call in our time. "Having a form of godliness but denying its power." (2 Timothy 3:5)

5 II. What Does Fallow Ground Produce? A. Fallow ground produces thorns and thistles. Matthew 13:7, And some fell among thorns, and the thorns sprang up and choked them. V.22, Now he who received seed among the thorns is he who hears the word, and the cares of this world and the deceitfulness of riches choke the word, and he becomes unfruitful.

6 B. Fallow ground produces the root of bitterness in us. Hebrews 12:12-15, Therefore strengthen the hands which hang down, and the feeble knees, 13 and make straight paths for your feet, so that what is lame may not be dislocated, but rather be healed. 14 Pursue peace with all people, and holiness, without which no one will see the Lord: 15 looking carefully lest anyone fall short of the grace of God; lest any root of bitterness springing up cause trouble, and by this many become defiled;

8 C. Fallow ground is often the result of apathy and laziness. Judges 18:9, So they said, Arise, let us go up against them. For we have seen the land, and indeed it is very good. Would you do nothing? Do not hesitate to go, and enter to possess the land. Proverbs 12:27, The lazy man does not roast what he took in hunting, But diligence is a man s precious possession. Proverbs 22:13, The lazy man says, There is a lion outside! I shall be slain in the streets

9 Proverbs 24:30-31 I went by the field of the lazy man, And by the vineyard of the man devoid of understanding; 31 And there it was, all overgrown with thorns; Its surface was covered with nettles; Its stone wall was broken down.

10 III. How can Fallow Ground be Broken Up? A. Fallow ground can be broken up by the plow of God's Word. James 1:22-25, But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves. 23 For if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man observing his natural face in a mirror; 24 for he observes himself, goes away, and immediately forgets what kind of man he was. 25 But he who looks into the perfect law of liberty and continues in it, and is not a forgetful hearer but a doer of the work, this one will be blessed in what he does

11 B. Fallow ground can be broken up by repentance. Revelation 2:4-5, Nevertheless I have this against you, that you have left your first love. 5 Remember therefore from where you have fallen; repent and do the first works, or else I will come to you quickly and remove your lampstand from its place unless you repent.

12 C. Fallow ground can be broken up by humility and prayer. 2 Chronicles 7:14, If My people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land.
