Proverbs 3:5, NCV Bible Story Focus: I can trust God even when it s hard. Naaman 2 Kings 5:1-14 Make It True (, 20 minutes) After children have participated in Make It Fun, gather them for a large group time that includes interactive worship, introductory sketch and Bible story. Encourage children to be active during worship by incorporating the appropriate hand motions. Worship Everyday I Can Let s Trust God What You Need: Paperclip Memory Verse Card (from the week one Activity Pages on the Website) in your Bible at Proverbs 3:5. WORSHIP LEADER: Hello, hello, friends. Have you had fun diving in together this month? We have one more water story to tell today, and it s a great one. Not only did the man in this story have to trust God, but he also had to count to seven. Can you count to seven with me? (Count to seven.) Great! Now: Who can you trust? CHILDREN and WORSHIP LEADER: [Bottom Line] I can trust God! WORSHIP LEADER: Yes! [Bottom Line] I can trust God! You got it! Let s sing this month s song. (Lead children in singing Every Day I Can, this month s worship song.) WORSHIP LEADER: Wonderful singing, my friends. Tell me: Who can you trust? Are you ready to say it with me? Trust the Lord (point both index fingers straight up in the air) with all (stretch arms out wide) your heart (bring both hands together over your heart), Proverbs 3:5. (Hold hands open like a book.) Let s do it together. CHILDREN and WORSHIP LEADER: Trust the Lord (point both index fingers straight up in the air) with all (stretch arms out wide) your heart (bring both hands together over your heart), Proverbs 3:5. (Hold hands open like a book.) (Repeat several times.) WORSHIP LEADER: Yes! You ve got it totally memorized now! Way to go! I love that we can trust God no matter what! Let s sing about that. (Lead children in singing Let s Trust God. ) So great! Remind me one more time: Who can you trust? CHILDREN and WORSHIP LEADER: [Bottom Line] I can trust God! Introductory Sketch What You Need: A swim cap and swim goggles (STORYTELLER: enters wearing the swim cap and the goggles propped on the top of his head. He/she sneaks onstage, looking around for someone.) STORYTELLER:: (Whispering) Hey, have you guys seen my dad? Anyone? (Speaking in regular voice) Whew, okay, good. That was a close one. My dad is looking for me because it s time for my LAST swim lesson. I ve already been swimming without my floaties. AND I jumped in the pool. AND I put my head underwater. SO this is my last lesson. And do you know that means? It means it s diving board day. So I m hiding from him because I REALLY don t want to go! The diving board, well, it kind of scares me. I know, I know. This is probably silly. If it were super dangerous, my swim coach wouldn t have us jump off the diving board, right? But it looks so high. And I ve never jumped off the diving board before. Seriously, jumping off the diving board will be the hardest thing I ever do. But if there s one thing I ve learned in all these swim lessons, it s that I can trust my coach. AND I can trust that God is with me, even when I face something scary. And I get to wear this cool swim cap Curriculum Materials for 3- through 5-year-olds 2016 The rethink Group. 5 and my really awesome, super cool swim goggles that help me see underwater. Maybe it won t be so bad. People jump off diving boards all the time, right? (Take a deep breath.) Okay, I think I m ready to dive in now! I will let you know how it went when I see you next week. (STORYTELLER: exits.) Bible Story First Look offers weekly Bible stories on our DVD titled Wonder! Look at God s Story, which you may choose to use rather than a live Storyteller this week. This DVD is available for purchase at the Orange Store on our Website. What You Need: Bible, red dot stickers, a plastic wading pool or a washtub, and a towel (Note: Put the stickers and towel in the pool.) (Storyteller enters and places the pool with the props in the center of the stage.) STORYTELLER: Hey friends! You re looking happy and full of energy today. I have a super awesome Bible story to share with you today. And as you know, if you read it in the Bible, it is TRUE! (Hold up Bible.) Today s true story is about a guy with a pretty funny name. His name was Naaman. Can you say Naaman with me? CHILDREN: Naaman! STORYTELLER: That s right, his name was Naaman. And Naaman was the commander of the army. He d won lots and lots of battles for the king, and everyone really liked him. But sadly, he had boo-boos all over his body. (Take the red dot stickers and place them all over your arms and neck.) These boo-boos were painful and there was no medicine that could make it better. Poor Naaman. But Naaman heard about a man who loved God that could help him! So he asked the king if he could go see the man. Everyone wanted Naaman to get better so the King agreed. And Naaman went with his horses and chariots to find the man that could help him. This man was named Elisha. When they got to his house, Elisha sent a messenger to talk to Naaman. The messenger told Naaman that if he wanted to get better, he needed to go wash himself SEVEN times in the river. Curriculum Materials for 3- through 5-year-olds 2016 The rethink Group. 6 Well, this made Naaman really angry. He got this big angry face with his angry eyebrows. Can you show me your angry eyebrow face? (Pause as kids respond.) Ooh, that s very angry! Naaman was mad because he was going to have to take SEVEN baths. That s SEVEN times in the water and SEVEN times out of the water. That seemed WAAAAY too hard for someone like him that was so important! Naaman wondered why Elisha didn t come out himself to heal him. (In a whiny voice) Why did he have to take a SEVEN baths? (Normal voice) Naaman didn t think it was fair. So what do you guys think Naaman should do? He still has all these painful boo-boos. Should he go home and still be sick, or should he trust God? (Pause.) Yes! He should trust God! So Naaman finally listened and took those seven baths. Can you guys count Naaman s baths with me? (Step into the wading pool, scrub your arms so that you knock a few of the stickers off each time, then step out and dry off with the towel seven times as the children count.) Here we go! One (step in pool, scrub off some dots, step out and dry off), two (repeat six times). WOW! Look at that! Naaman s spots are gone. God made him all better. No more booboos! (Dance around the stage.) I ll bet Naaman did a happy dance! Can you guys do a happy dance too? (Lead kids to stand up and do a happy dance for a few seconds.) Whew! That was SO fun! Naaman trusted God even though it was hard and God made him better! How awesome is that? And you know what? We can trust God too! Who can you trust? CHILDREN and STORYTELLER: [Bottom Line] I can trust God! STORYTELLER: That s right! You can trust God even when it s hard, just like Naaman did when he took SEVEN baths! Who can you trust? [Bottom Line] I can trust God. Let s pray about that. [Do Open them, close them. Children will say the finger play with you and repeat each line of the prayer after you.] Open them. [Open hands.] Close them. [Close hands.] Open them. [Open hands.] Close them. [Close hands.] Give a little clap. [Clap hands.] Open them. [Open hands.] Close them. [Close hands.] Open them.
